Chapter 58

**[Target: Vanguard 'Vera' (Pinnacle-Tier Assassin).]**

**[Calculating Refund Value...]**

**[Value: 50,000 SP. Insufficient to cover cosmic debt.]**

Arthur’s eyes widened. "It's not enough! She’s only worth fifty thousand!"

Vera’s composed expression finally shattered. A flash of genuine panic crossed her face. "But... but my combat data! My upgrades!"

"You are terrestrial hardware," Arthur breathed out, the realization crushing him. "The Void Market doesn't value earthly assassins. We need twelve million!"

**[Time Remaining: 10 Seconds.]**

The heat in the boardroom became unbearable. The smart-glass windows began to warp and melt from the ambient thermal radiation rising from the cracked earth outside.

"Boss!" Nyx shrieked, grabbing her laptop and backing away from the windows. "We’re out of time!"

Arthur’s mind moved faster than light. If earthly hardware was worthless, what did he possess that the Architects actually valued? What did he have that cost millions of points?

He looked at the sky.

Hyperion was hovering in the steam clouds, his plasma armor glowing brilliantly. Down in the plaza, the crippled Goliath was struggling to stand on his one remaining arm. And lurking in the shadows of the boardroom, Nemesis watched silently with pitch-black eyes.

The Apex Vanguards.

He had paid three million points for them. They were cosmic-tier hardware.

"System!" Arthur roared aloud, his voice vibrating with absolute desperation. "Liquidate the Apex Vanguards! Sell Hyperion, Goliath, and Nemesis back to the Void Market!"

**[Initiating Apex Liquidation Protocol...]**

**[Calculating Refund Value...]**

**[Value: 3,000,000 SP. Total combined liquidity: 3,000,000 SP. Insufficient to cover 12,000,000 SP debt.]**

"Why?!" Arthur screamed, slamming his fist onto the glass table, shattering it completely. "I paid you ten million for the Spear of Genesis! I just killed their ship! Give me the market value!"

**[The Void Market operates on Depreciation. Used assets lose 70% of their initial value upon deployment. The Creditors demand liquid capital, not refurbished hardware.]**

**[Time Remaining: 5 Seconds.]**

The floor of the boardroom cracked open. A blast of superheated sulfur vented into the room. Serena screamed, covering her face as the heat blistered her skin.

Arthur stood at the edge of the fissure. He had nothing left. He had conquered the globe, hoarded trillions of dollars, and built an invincible empire, and it was all completely worthless in the face of the cosmic ledger.

He looked at the golden text in his mind.

*We are the Creditors. The debt is now due.*

"Arthur!" Victoria cried out, reaching a hand toward him as the floor tilted violently.

Arthur looked at Victoria. He looked at Serena, cowering in the corner. He looked at Nyx, clutching her laptop. He looked at Vera, standing bravely at his side.

He had promised to protect them. He had promised to build a world where they wouldn't be stepped on by old men in tall towers.

He couldn't save his empire. But he could save *them*.

Arthur closed his eyes. The golden *Aura of the Sovereign* flared, brighter and hotter than a dying star. He forced his mind into the deepest, most restricted protocols of the Infinite Wealth System.

*System,* Arthur commanded. His mental voice was absolute, unbreakable, and entirely devoid of fear.

*What is the market value of Host 410?*

**[Scanning Host Genetics and Combat Data...]**

**[Host 410 possesses Grandmaster-tier physical density, Level 5 System integration, and a fully matured 'Seed' bio-signature.]**

**[Estimated Value on the Void Market: 15,000,000 SP.]**

Arthur smiled. A sad, resigned smile. He was the most valuable asset he owned.

**[Time Remaining: 2 Seconds.]**

"Arthur, what are you doing?!" Serena screamed, seeing the golden light completely engulf his body.

*System,* Arthur ordered. *Liquidate Host 410. Pay the debt. Transfer the remaining three million points, the terrestrial deeds, and the orbital ledger to Serena Sterling.*

**[Processing...]**

**[Debt Paid in Full. Margin Call Cancelled.]**

**[Initiating Asset Transfer to Serena Sterling.]**

**[Initiating Host Deletion...]**

Arthur opened his eyes. He looked at Serena.

"Take care of the company," Arthur whispered.

Before Serena could scream his name, Arthur Vance violently dissolved into a blinding pillar of golden light. He didn't burn to ash. He didn't fall. He simply ceased to exist.

Instantly, the tectonic groaning stopped. The magma fissure in the plaza rapidly cooled, sealing itself shut. The hurricane winds died down. The apocalypse had been cancelled.

The boardroom was dead silent.

Serena knelt on the ruined floor, staring at the empty space where Arthur had stood a second ago.

*Ding.*

A massive, glowing blue interface materialized in front of Serena’s eyes.

**[Welcome, Serena Sterling.]**

**[You have inherited the Infinite Wealth System. Current Balance: 3,000,000 SP.]**

**[The previous Host secured your world from Harvest. But the Creditors will return. Your objective: Rebuild. Prepare. Avenge.]**

Serena reached a trembling hand up to touch the blue text.

A single tear rolled down her cheek. Then, her eyes hardened, burning with a new, terrifying resolve.

"Nyx. Victoria. Vera," Serena said, her voice dropping into a cold, commanding register that sounded hauntingly like Arthur.

"Yes, Ma'am," they answered in unison.

"Call the board," Serena ordered, stepping over the shattered glass. "We’re going to war with the stars."

The Overseer a bloated, slug-like alien sitting on a floating podium gestured toward Arthur with a fleshy appendage. Arthur stood in the center of the brightly lit circular stage. Kael and a dozen other trembling prisoners knelt in the shadows behind him, awaiting their turn. "Do not let the primitive aesthetic fool you," the Overseer sneered, tapping a console that projected Arthur’s biometric data into the air for the crowd to see. "The internal bone density is catastrophic. Muscle fibers are woven with sub-molecular threading. This hardware survived a Level 5 Incubation Cycle. Perfect for heavy gladiatorial combat or hazardous extraction."The crowd of cosmic nobility sneered down at the human in the ruined suit. "You were just stripped of your homeworld, dragged across dimensions, and locked in a flesh-market, and you want to know about the local fiscal policy?""I am a businessman," Arthur replied smoothly, leaning his back against the cold metallic wall. "I find that understanding the ledger is the fastest way to fire the management."The alien let out a dry, rattling laugh. "You possess a strange arrogance for a primate. My name is Kael. I was a Host once, just like you. I ruled a binary star system. Until the Architects called my margin. Now, I am priced at fourteen Aether Credits."Arthur filed the name away. Chapter 57The frozen moment in time shattered. The roaring wind returned with a vengeance. The dying Harvester monolith crashed into the Mediterranean Sea ten miles offshore, sending a massive, three-hundred-foot tidal wave racing toward the island of San Marcos.Arthur didn't even look at the incoming tsunami. He tossed the fading, useless shaft of the Spear of Genesis aside. The magnetic casing dissolved into violet dust before it hit the marble balcony."Vera! Hyperion!" Arthur shouted. Before the tidal wave could strike the newly rebuilt capital, Hyperion shot down from the stratosphere. The plasma-wrapped Vanguard positioned himself directly between the city and the ocean. He didn't build a wall; he simply unleashed a localized burst of thermal radiation. The three-hundred-foot wall of seawater slammed into the thermal barrier and instantly flash-boiled into steam. It looked like a jagged wound in reality, bleeding a deep, terrifying violet light. From the rift, the weapon descended. It wasn't a gun. It didn't have a trigger or a stock. It was a six-foot-long javelin composed entirely of condensed, swirling anti-matter encased in a shifting magnetic field. It hummed with a low, bone-rattling frequency that made the hair on everyone’s arms stand on end.Arthur stepped forward and reached out."Master, do not touch it!" Vera warned, taking a rare step backward, her instincts screaming that the weapon was anathema to biological life.Arthur ignored her.
