Ross Spencer was soaking up the precious winter sun, basking on the pool deck of his smart home in a cozy corner of Suburbia, when his phone buzzed. He had half a mind to just let it ring to death, but seeing Logan’s name on his screen made him change his mind.

“What’s up? How are you holding up?”

A frustrated and belligerent Logan muttered angrily from the other side, “Alex Verlaine came to our manor in Wickerville. He spoke to my old man and convinced him to free his trucks. He took both trucks with him!”

Ross’s eyes darkened as his carefree expression turned glum and serious.

“And that’s not all. He also went after Oliver. Scared him so badly that he has decided to back out of our arrangement,” Logan continued. “I swear we need to put this Alex Verlaine in his place before it’s too late, or we’re going to end up just like your damn uncle.”

The last statement infuriated Ross even more.

“I am not like Uncle Dan!” He retorted sharply. “Alex thinks he can just go around rubbing dirt in

Michael Marston’s eyes never left the door that his son had just slammed shut, almost in his face. He could sense something terrible was about to happen. Yet, he wasn’t ready to intervene just yet.Instead of stopping Logan from doing something rash, he called for Andrew Hargrove, a formidable shooter, and his right-hand man.Andrew entered the study room, dressed in his hunting vest and tactical boots, and stood with his eyes lowered to the floor.“You called, boss?”“I did. I need you to keep an eye on Logan for me. That boy is up to no good, and I fear he might be a little too over his head to think straight,” Michael replied, rolling a paperweight between his fingers. “Trail him, but don’t let him see you. Just make sure he steers clear of trouble.”“Got it. I’ll take care of it, boss.”As Andrew left the room like an obedient English Setter, Matthew’s old uncle, Clive Marston, stumbled into the study, balancing himself on his polished cane, which left spots on the clean brown car

Please leave my friends out of this!” Logan yelled, straining every muscle in his throat to get his plea across. “I’m ready to apologize to Mr. Verlaine. Just let my friends go!”“And why should I do that?” Michael finally asked, fixing his piercing gaze on Logan. “You and your friends must all learn to

Michael Marston's warning came as a death knell. In Wickerville, he was the judge, jury, and executioner. And his influence was such that his words were obeyed like law.Alex knew this as well, but instead of backing down, he placed his phone on the supper table, showing Michael pictures of the two missing trucks and a smart tracking blimp right on their location."The trucks and their drivers are still here. I suggest you start looking for your dear son."Michael kept his eyes glued to Alex and shouted instructions to his armed guards."Scour the farmstead! And find Logan and bring him to me!"As his men rushed out to search the farmstead, Michael called his son on his phone."Logan, we missed you at the supper table. Care to explain what exactly has been keeping you so occupied?""Just sorting something out with my guys," Logan mumbled unconvincingly from the other side."Well, say hello to them for me. And remember to always walk on God's green path, son. That's what truly matters

Things have been quite hectic of late,” Alex responded over the wireless while keeping his hands steady on the wheel. “But I promise I will make it up to you.”“I am not even thinking about that. I am just worried about you, Alex. Your recklessness scares me,” Dr. Lucy replied in a subdued tone. “You are surrounded by enemies, but you just disregard all my words of caution. I am afraid of losing you.”Alex’s expression softened as he felt something stir inside his heart. A feeling he had long forgotten.“I am sorry for making you worried. But I can handle this. I need to handle this. That night, I wasn’t the only one who could’ve been hurt. And I can’t bear the idea of anyone harming you.”“I am fine, Alex. I just want you to stop chasing th
