Caleb returned to his mountain villa to rest. His body ached deeply.
He walked through the front gate and immediately covered his ears. The Vanguard construction workers were drilling thick steel plates into the solid stone walls. Sparks flew everywhere and hit the ground. The loud grinding sounds made his head pound with intense pain.
Caleb realized he could never sleep in this total chaos. He needed a quiet place to recover his strength for the days ahead.
He turned around and walked back down the mountain path. He waved his hand and stopped a passing taxi.
"Take me to the De Luxe Hotel," Caleb told the driver.
The De Luxe Hotel was the most expensive place in the entire city. Only billionaires and famous celebrities stayed there.
Caleb looked out the taxi window. He watched the normal people walking on the sidewalks. They were laughing and eating ice cream. They had no idea that the world would end in a few days. Caleb felt a cold block of ice in his chest. He would only save himself.
The taxi stopped. Caleb walked into the massive lobby of the De Luxe Hotel. Rich businessmen in expensive suits walked past him and gave him dirty looks. Caleb wore plain clothes covered in white construction dust. He looked like a homeless beggar walking into a palace.
Caleb walked straight to the front desk. "I want your best room," Caleb said loudly.
The front desk clerk looked at Caleb from head to toe. The clerk frowned slightly and crossed his arms.
"Sir, our presidential suite costs ten thousand dollars a single night. Are you sure you are in the right place?" the clerk asked with a mocking tone.
Caleb did not waste time arguing with a fool. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his heavy black bank card. He slapped the card down hard onto the marble counter.
"Book the presidential suite for half a month. Do it right now," Caleb ordered.
The clerk saw the rare black card and gasped loudly. His arrogant attitude changed in one second. He started sweating. He typed rapidly on his keyboard and processed the large payment.
"Right away sir! We are so sorry for the delay! We will arrange a dedicated customer service butler to serve you during your stay!" the clerk practically shouted.
A beautiful young woman in a tight red uniform quickly walked over. She wore bright red lipstick and smiled widely. She led Caleb to the private VIP elevator.
The shiny metal doors closed. The butler stood very close to Caleb. She brushed her soft hand against his arm. She looked up at him and batted her eyelashes. She unbuttoned the top button of her uniform blouse.
"If you get lonely tonight, you can call my personal number. I do very special room service for important guests," she whispered.
Caleb felt nothing but total disgust. He remembered how women exactly like her acted during the dark apocalypse. They would sell their bodies and their souls for a single slice of dirty bread. They would betray anyone to survive. He stepped away from her.
"Just open the door and leave," Caleb said coldly.
The butler looked very disappointed. The elevator dinged. She unlocked the massive double doors of the presidential suite and walked away quickly. Caleb locked the heavy doors behind her. He fell onto the massive king bed and slept deeply.
Caleb woke up the next morning feeling completely refreshed. The beginner energy liquid from the system was still changing his muscles and bones. He felt stronger and faster than ever before.
He left the hotel and walked to the luxury shopping plaza across the street. The plaza was huge and covered in shiny glass. Caleb walked into a high end boutique. He looked at the racks of expensive shirts.
"Caleb? Is that really you?" a soft voice called out behind him.
Caleb turned around. A stunning woman stood there. She wore a sharp white business suit that hugged her curves. Her long dark hair fell perfectly over her shoulders.
It was Seraphina Kai. She was the absolute class beauty from his old university days. Now she was the powerful president of Vance Dynamics.
Seraphina smiled warmly and walked right up to him.
"I have been looking for you for years," Seraphina said with bright eyes. "I never forgot how you helped me back then."
Back in college, Caleb gave her his last bit of savings to help her start her first company. It was a small act for him, but it changed her entire life.
"Do not take it to heart," Caleb said calmly. "You did the hard work yourself."
Seraphina shook her head. "No, you saved my dream. Are you shopping for clothes? Let us shop together. I want to buy you something nice."
Caleb thought about it and nodded. They walked through the boutique together. Seraphina picked out a black suit jacket and held it against his broad chest.
Before Caleb could speak, a loud annoying laugh echoed through the quiet store.
"Well look at this! It is the pathetic house dog!"
Caleb did not need to turn around to know that terrible voice. It was Julian Cross. Julian walked into the store wearing a flashy designer outfit. He had a tall fashion model hanging onto his arm.
Julian sneered at Caleb with pure hatred. "I heard Evelyn finally kicked you out onto the street. Now I see why you are not crying. You found another rich girl to leech off of!"
Julian laughed loudly. His model girlfriend giggled behind her hand.
"He looks so poor," the girlfriend said loudly. "Why is a beggar allowed in this store?"
Seraphina narrowed her beautiful eyes. Her powerful aura filled the room. She stepped directly in front of Caleb to defend him.
"You need to watch your mouth," Seraphina warned him strictly. "Caleb is ten times the man you will ever be. You are just a spoiled child playing with your rich daddy's money."
Julian stopped laughing. His face turned bright red with intense anger.
"Shut up Seraphina! You are wasting your time with this trash. He lived off his wife for three whole years. He is a completely useless parasite!" Julian yelled.
The whole store went dead quiet. The shop assistants stared at them in shock.
Caleb did not look angry. He looked completely bored. He pulled out his black bank card again. He looked at the terrified shop manager hiding behind the counter.
"Wrap up all the clothes in this store," Caleb ordered. His voice was cold and heavy. "Everything."
Julian scoffed loudly. "You are bluffing! You do not have that kind of money!"
Caleb just stared at the manager. "Do it now. Send it all to my private warehouse address."
The manager took the black card with shaking hands. He ran to the register and swiped it. The machine beeped a loud green sound. The payment was approved instantly.
Julian froze in place. His mouth hung wide open in total shock.
Julian's model girlfriend stopped laughing abruptly. She glanced at the green light on the cash register. She shifted her gaze to the formidable Seraphina standing beside Caleb.
A dark thought suddenly crossed her mind. Seraphina was a brilliant CEO. She would never respect a weak and useless man.
Staring at Caleb’s calm and handsome face, the girlfriend began to wonder. Could this supposed parasite actually be a highly capable and dangerous monster in disguise?
