Chapter 4: A DEVASTATING INCIDENT
Kelvin stood there as he watched Diana walk away with Harry. He didn't call out to her or chase after her, he looked at their backs until he could no longer see them, then he lowered his head and let out a hopeless smile, but then it turned into laughter. He laughed at himself, at everything that had just happened, he found it funny, but the laugh wasn't cheerful, it was—Cold, cheerless and depreciating. He let out an exhausted sigh, raised his head high, and without looking at the people who continued to whisper to each other as they looked at him with all sorts of gazes but most of all—Sympathy. He chuckled calmly as he walked out, “Even an outsider can see clearly, but you still can't.” he muttered and continued to walk out in heavy steps. *** Kelvin knocked on the door of Elsie and waited with a calm expression on his face. He had no emotions on his face and it was like he had only gone out to get something and had not just experienced a devastating incident. The door of the apartment opened and Elsie, who was putting on exposed nightwear, showed up. He looked at her face and when he saw the look of annoyance on her face, he immediately guessed that she might have fallen asleep, “I’m sorry, Elsie. I came for Mia.” Elsie rolled her eyes at him, she looked at Kelvin with a raised eyebrow, then frowned and asked, “Why are you alone? Didn't my sister come with you?” Kelvin looked down and was surprised at the revealing night gown she was putting on, he shifted his gaze immediately, then replied as calm as ever, “She’s not coming back.” Elsie frowned in confusion, though she didn't like Kelvin, but she wouldn't defend her sister if she was wrong. Her elder sister had been acting this way for sometime and it seems it was time she talked to her. “Well…” She paused, then leaned back to look into the house, then turn back to look at Kelvin who looked anywhere but her but it wasn't like she cared anyway. “Mia is asleep and I think you should let her be. You can come take her in the morning or when she wakes up.” She proposed which was fine by Kelvin. Kelvin nodded, “Thank you. Please take care of her.”He said and turned around to leave. After entering the house, he fell on the couch, his energy drained. He sat slumped on the couch and kept his gaze on the ceiling. His mind played everything that had happened all over again, then he sat up, covered his face with his palm and cried silently to himself. No tears came out, no crying sounds but only his shoulders could show how much pain he held inside him. This was the woman he had loved and held dear to himself, the woman who had borne his only daughter, the woman he had sacrificed a lot for. He didn't know where he went wrong, he didn't know how and when he lost her love, but one thing he knew was that the Diana he saw today wasn't the woman he fell in love with and for that, he came to a conclusion and made a decision. He stood up calmly and sat behind the computer, then began typing rapidly on the keyboard. He spent hours drafting a contract, and when he clicked on the last word, he closed his eyes tightly. As he saved it and was about to do the rest, the door opened and Diana walked in tiredly. Her face was pale and her eyes were sunken showing just how exhausted she was, but when her eyes saw Kelvin who sat behind the computer, she gritted her teeth and matched him unhappily. “Why did you cause a scene at my company's celebratory party?” She asked coldly. Kelvin’s fingers paused, he sneered and raised his head to respond to her but found her staring at Mia’s birthday cake in shock. Diane stared at the untouched cake and foods on the table in surprise, she had actually forgotten her daughter’s birthday?! Her heart tightened as she turned to look at Kelvin with a guilty and uncomfortable expression on her face but seeing the sarcasm on his face, her face burned more. “Sorry, I forgot. I was too busy preparing for the company's big day and this day escaped my mind.” She explained but all Kelvin felt was calmness. His eyes were cold, and his expression indifferent as if it was none of his business. “You shouldn't be apologising to me.” He said calmly. Diana paused, then looked around the house as she had just recalled that her daughter still hadn't come out to hug her as usual. “Where is Mia?” She asked softly. “She’s with Elsie.” “Good!” Diane responded indifferently, then dropped her pause at the side, “Now, let's talk about us.” She announced coldly. Kelvin paused, his eyes shook, but he still remained calm as he kept typing away on the computer, “There is nothing to talk about.” He responded swiftly and indifferently. “You think there is nothing?!” Diana asked and anger could be heard in her voice. “You crashed an important celebration for my company and caused a scene there, you embarrassed me and was being petty over something so little. Besides…” She paused, then pointed out. “… Don't you think you should apologise to Harry? You landed him in the hospital because of your selfishness!” Kelvin froze in shock. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. “What did you say?!”Latest Chapter
SHADOWS IN THE MORNING
Chapter – SHADOWS IN THE MORNINGCecile POVMorning came too fast, like it was personally offended I’d managed to fall asleep at all.Sunlight stabbed through the half-open blinds in cruel, slanted bars. I woke up tangled in sheets that still carried his heat, his scent—cedar and clean skin and something darker I couldn’t name. My body ached in the good way and the bad way at once. The good way from how he’d held me like I might vanish if he loosened his grip. The bad way from the guilt still sitting heavy in my stomach like undigested lead.I turned my head.Kelvin was already awake. Barely. Eyes half-lidded, hair a beautiful disaster, one arm slung over his face like he was trying to block the day from happening. The sheet had slipped low enough that I could trace the line of muscle disappearing beneath it. I hated how much I wanted to reach out. Trace it with my fingers. Pretend for five more minutes that last night’s phone call never happened.Instead I forced myself to sit up.Ha
NO ESCAPE IN SLEEP
Chapter – NO ESCAPE IN SLEEPCecile POVThe hallway stretched longer on the way back. Each step felt borrowed, like I was walking on someone else’s floor, in someone else’s life. The phone was still warm in my palm, Marcus’s voice echoing in the hollow parts of my skull. That’s my girl. The words sat like acid on my tongue. I wanted to spit them out. I wanted to scream them into the dark until the walls cracked.Instead, I kept walking.Bare feet silent against the cool wood. Heart hammering so hard I swore it would bruise the inside of my ribs. The bedroom door loomed ahead—ordinary, white, slightly ajar the way I’d left it. A thin stripe of moonlight sliced across the floor from the gap. I paused there, hand hovering over the knob, breath caught somewhere between lungs and throat.I could still turn around.I could grab my bag from the living room, slip out the front door, disappear into the night before he even rolled over. No note. No goodbye. Just gone. But my fingers curled arou

NO PLACE TO HIDECecile POVKelvin slept like the world had finally loosened its grip on him.One arm flung over the pillow. Brow smooth. Mouth slightly open. The kind of sleep people earn after choosing something hard and standing by it. I lay on my side, watching his chest rise and fall, counting the seconds between breaths like it might tell me something useful. Like it might explain why my chest felt tight instead of calm.I should’ve felt safe.Instead, my body buzzed. Not desire. Awareness. The room smelled like clean soap and warmth. Night pressed against the windows, thick and quiet. Somewhere down the street, a car passed, tires hissing against asphalt. Normal sounds. Normal life. The kind you pretend you’re part of while lying. My phone vibrated on the nightstand.Once.I froze.Kelvin didn’t move. The screen lit up again, faint glow slicing through the dark. I reached for it slowly, like the smallest sound might wake him. My fingers brushed the glass, and the name there mad
YES WE DID IT, EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING
YES WE DID IT, EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING Cecile POVThe words hung between us like smoke after a fire—thick, lingering, impossible to ignore. I pulled my hand back from Kevin’s chest, feeling the warmth of his skin fade against my palm, and turned toward the stove again. The sauce was done, but dinner suddenly felt like an afterthought. My heart was pounding, not from fear or anger, but from that raw edge of certainty we’d just carved out. He chose me without hedging, without caveats. And damn if that didn’t stir something deep, something hungry.I plated the food mechanically, the clink of forks against ceramic cutting through the quiet. Kevin watched me, his eyes tracing my movements like he was memorizing them. “You okay?” he asked, voice low, not pushing but probing.I glanced over my shoulder, a small smile tugging at my lips. “Better than okay. Just… processing.” I handed him a plate, our fingers brushing, sending a spark up my arm. “Eat. Before it gets cold.”We sat at the table,
NO PLACE TO HIDE
NO PLACE TO HIDECecile POV The house felt different when the truth entered it.Not louder. Not heavier. Just… alert.Cecile turned the stove down a notch, more out of instinct than necessity. The sauce had already thickened, the way she liked it—slow, patient, refusing to be hurried. She kept her back to Kevin for a moment longer than usual, giving herself time to organize what she was feeling. She wasn’t shocked. That surprised her. She’d known this was coming the moment Diana’s name resurfaced. The moment Kevin didn’t deflect, didn’t minimize, didn’t wrap the past in careful language. Men like him didn’t exist in isolation. They came with ecosystems. With watchers. With opinions. She’d lived long enough to know that love didn’t make you invisible—it made you noticeable.Kevin set his keys down quietly. The sound echoed too sharply in the space between them.“They talked about you today,” he said. Not softened. Not disguised. She appreciated that more than he knew.“I figured,” Cec

PRESSURE POINTKevin’s POVThe elevator doors closed with a sound that felt louder than it should have.Kevin stood alone inside the glass box as it began its smooth ascent, the city shrinking beneath him floor by floor. His reflection stared back from the mirrored wall—tailored suit, calm face, no visible cracks. The kind of man people trusted with money, futures, decisions that affected thousands. He rolled his shoulders once, loosening tension he’d woken up with but hadn’t shaken since.Something was off today. He’d felt it before he even left the house—before Cecile’s quiet “Drive safe,” before Mia’s rushed goodbye kiss, before the gates slid shut behind him. A low-grade hum under his skin. The sense that something had already started moving without him.The elevator chimed.Twenty-fourth floor. The doors opened to controlled chaos.Assistants moved faster than usual, heels clicking sharply against marble. Conversations stopped mid-sentence when they noticed him, then resumed in s
