Chapter 5: A MEAN DISAPPOINTMENT
Kelvin couldn’t believe his ears, he hadn’t wanted to care about her but now he was forced to turn to her. He stared at her in disbelief, then asked again, “What did you say just now?!” Diana, who was also infuriated, didn't back down. “I said you need to apologise to Harry!” Kelvin stared at her with his mouth open, he glared at her like he could pounce on her at any moment, his blood surged at her words and he couldn't understand how she could be so shameless. “Is that what he wants? For me to apologise?” He asked coldly with his piercing eyes fixed on her. “No! Don't bring Harry into this as he doesn't even know what is going on because he is ill right now.” She said, and without waiting for him to respond, she continued confidently. “I know I'm in the wrong as I forgot Mia’s birthday, but it still doesn't warrant you to crash my party, and even destroy everything, and worse, you triggered Harry’s anxiety attack! He’s lying in the hospital right now and you think you shouldn't apologise?!” She questioned him confidently as if she were right. Kelvin looked at Diana speechlessly for a while, then chuckled after he successfully calmed his rage, “I won't apologise to that trash! And you…” Kelvin paused, then looked her in the eye, and spat out coldly, "Shouldn't you be explaining your infidelity instead?” “What?!” Diana exclaimed in shock. She looked at her husband and her eyes turned red. “Me? Infidelity? Kelvin, I’ve never cheated on you so why accuse me of such?!” She questioned, her tone a bit high as she stared at him in disbelief. “You have never?” Kelvin asked in surprise. He couldn't understand where Disna had gotten this blind confidence from. “I saw him kiss you in front of a whole crowd, and you didn't reject him! I also watched him hold your waist but you never thought of pushing him away!” Diana froze, she swallowed, “But—You don't need to make it look bad, okay? I wasn't able to react fast, besides, I was tipsy and he had only held me so I wouldn't fall. It's really not as you think. Can you stop calling it infidelity?” She asked, her voice now low. Kelvin looked at her and suddenly shook his head as he realised she would keep defending herself. Since there was nothing much to say, then— He suddenly paused as he heard the sound from the printer. He sighed in relief as it was just in time. He removed the papers from the printer then stretched it toward Diana who took it with curiosity. “Sign it!” He ordered coldly. Diana’s eyes widened in shock after reading it, “You want a divorce?!” She exclaimed but Kelvin didn't bother to listen as he pointed the pen at her. “Just sign it. This is for the best.” He said calmly. Diana looked at his face and realized the seriousness, she looked at the divorce contract in her hand and threw it on the table, “No! I won't! I don't want a divorce!” She cried out. Kelvin didn't even look at her, he picked the document again, then stretched it towards her, “I don't need to listen to your opinion. Sign it!” He said resolutely. “No!” Diana shook her head and didn't take the papers from him, “I haven't cheated so why should I agree to this? I said it was all a misunderstanding. So, why act this way?!” She asked with a clenched fist. Kelvin suddenly felt tired, he really didn't want to listen to any of her nonsense anymore, but as he was about to say something, the door of their home opened which made both of them turn to the door immediately. Mia staggered in while rubbing her eyes groggily, she stumbled in with her little legs and yawned, but when her eyes found her mum, her yawn paused halfway as she widened her eyes in surprise then ran toward Diana. “Mama!” Diana hugged her daughter tightly, she smiled gently and was about to say something when Mia’s foggy voice sounded. “Mama, you don't want Mia anymore? Do you want to have another baby with that Harry?” The smile on Diana froze and her face turned pale, then she heard her daughter sniff and continue. “People at Mama’s company said Mama would marry Harry. Does that mean you won't want Papa and me anymore? Mama…don’t leave..” Mia pleaded tearfully. Her words pierced through Diana’s heart like knives. Now she could understand why Kelvin had reacted that way, if she were in his position, she would do more than this. Her body shook as she hugged her daughter tightly, “Mama isn't going anywhere, Mia will always be my baby!” She said but when she looked down, she realised Mia had fallen asleep. She heaved a sigh and threw a guilty glance at Kelvin who sat there coldly, then she walked to the bedroom and put Mia to sleep. After some minutes or so, Diana came back after putting Mia to sleep. She stopped and gazed at Kelvin with a gentle gaze, and with nervous steps, she walked to him and sat down on the chair next to him. Kelvin looked at her indifferently, and ignored the guilt on her face, he slid the papers towards her, “Since you are done, sign the divorce papers!” Diana’s face turned pale white, her eyes turned red and her fingers pinched her dress, “I'm sorry, Kelvin. I really didn't mean to hurt you both. Don't let us divorce, okay? This really won't happen again.” She lowered her head in shame and apologised. Kelvin felt drained. He really didn't want to listen to her anymore. She had done enough and listening to his daughter’s words again, he knew he wouldn't be able to take it any longer. He looked at her calmly, “You don't need to say all this. This is for the best, so…Sign it!” He ordered impatiently. Diana’s lips trembled as she looked at him in disbelief. He really had made up his mind?! But… Diane’s eyes flashed with resolution, “What about Mia?! Do you think she would want her parents to get divorced? I understand that you are angry but don't make a decision you would later regret.” She explained, then continued immediately, “Besides, I promise not to talk to Harry anymore, I’ll make sure I stop the closeness. Is that okay with you?” She asked, then bowed and with closed eyes, she whispered, “Think about Mia…”Latest Chapter
SHADOWS IN THE MORNING
Chapter – SHADOWS IN THE MORNINGCecile POVMorning came too fast, like it was personally offended I’d managed to fall asleep at all.Sunlight stabbed through the half-open blinds in cruel, slanted bars. I woke up tangled in sheets that still carried his heat, his scent—cedar and clean skin and something darker I couldn’t name. My body ached in the good way and the bad way at once. The good way from how he’d held me like I might vanish if he loosened his grip. The bad way from the guilt still sitting heavy in my stomach like undigested lead.I turned my head.Kelvin was already awake. Barely. Eyes half-lidded, hair a beautiful disaster, one arm slung over his face like he was trying to block the day from happening. The sheet had slipped low enough that I could trace the line of muscle disappearing beneath it. I hated how much I wanted to reach out. Trace it with my fingers. Pretend for five more minutes that last night’s phone call never happened.Instead I forced myself to sit up.Ha
NO ESCAPE IN SLEEP
Chapter – NO ESCAPE IN SLEEPCecile POVThe hallway stretched longer on the way back. Each step felt borrowed, like I was walking on someone else’s floor, in someone else’s life. The phone was still warm in my palm, Marcus’s voice echoing in the hollow parts of my skull. That’s my girl. The words sat like acid on my tongue. I wanted to spit them out. I wanted to scream them into the dark until the walls cracked.Instead, I kept walking.Bare feet silent against the cool wood. Heart hammering so hard I swore it would bruise the inside of my ribs. The bedroom door loomed ahead—ordinary, white, slightly ajar the way I’d left it. A thin stripe of moonlight sliced across the floor from the gap. I paused there, hand hovering over the knob, breath caught somewhere between lungs and throat.I could still turn around.I could grab my bag from the living room, slip out the front door, disappear into the night before he even rolled over. No note. No goodbye. Just gone. But my fingers curled arou
NO PLACE TO HIDE
NO PLACE TO HIDECecile POVKelvin slept like the world had finally loosened its grip on him.One arm flung over the pillow. Brow smooth. Mouth slightly open. The kind of sleep people earn after choosing something hard and standing by it. I lay on my side, watching his chest rise and fall, counting the seconds between breaths like it might tell me something useful. Like it might explain why my chest felt tight instead of calm.I should’ve felt safe.Instead, my body buzzed. Not desire. Awareness. The room smelled like clean soap and warmth. Night pressed against the windows, thick and quiet. Somewhere down the street, a car passed, tires hissing against asphalt. Normal sounds. Normal life. The kind you pretend you’re part of while lying. My phone vibrated on the nightstand.Once.I froze.Kelvin didn’t move. The screen lit up again, faint glow slicing through the dark. I reached for it slowly, like the smallest sound might wake him. My fingers brushed the glass, and the name there mad
YES WE DID IT, EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING
YES WE DID IT, EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING Cecile POVThe words hung between us like smoke after a fire—thick, lingering, impossible to ignore. I pulled my hand back from Kevin’s chest, feeling the warmth of his skin fade against my palm, and turned toward the stove again. The sauce was done, but dinner suddenly felt like an afterthought. My heart was pounding, not from fear or anger, but from that raw edge of certainty we’d just carved out. He chose me without hedging, without caveats. And damn if that didn’t stir something deep, something hungry.I plated the food mechanically, the clink of forks against ceramic cutting through the quiet. Kevin watched me, his eyes tracing my movements like he was memorizing them. “You okay?” he asked, voice low, not pushing but probing.I glanced over my shoulder, a small smile tugging at my lips. “Better than okay. Just… processing.” I handed him a plate, our fingers brushing, sending a spark up my arm. “Eat. Before it gets cold.”We sat at the table,
NO PLACE TO HIDE
NO PLACE TO HIDECecile POV The house felt different when the truth entered it.Not louder. Not heavier. Just… alert.Cecile turned the stove down a notch, more out of instinct than necessity. The sauce had already thickened, the way she liked it—slow, patient, refusing to be hurried. She kept her back to Kevin for a moment longer than usual, giving herself time to organize what she was feeling. She wasn’t shocked. That surprised her. She’d known this was coming the moment Diana’s name resurfaced. The moment Kevin didn’t deflect, didn’t minimize, didn’t wrap the past in careful language. Men like him didn’t exist in isolation. They came with ecosystems. With watchers. With opinions. She’d lived long enough to know that love didn’t make you invisible—it made you noticeable.Kevin set his keys down quietly. The sound echoed too sharply in the space between them.“They talked about you today,” he said. Not softened. Not disguised. She appreciated that more than he knew.“I figured,” Cec
PRESSURE POINT
PRESSURE POINTKevin’s POVThe elevator doors closed with a sound that felt louder than it should have.Kevin stood alone inside the glass box as it began its smooth ascent, the city shrinking beneath him floor by floor. His reflection stared back from the mirrored wall—tailored suit, calm face, no visible cracks. The kind of man people trusted with money, futures, decisions that affected thousands. He rolled his shoulders once, loosening tension he’d woken up with but hadn’t shaken since.Something was off today. He’d felt it before he even left the house—before Cecile’s quiet “Drive safe,” before Mia’s rushed goodbye kiss, before the gates slid shut behind him. A low-grade hum under his skin. The sense that something had already started moving without him.The elevator chimed.Twenty-fourth floor. The doors opened to controlled chaos.Assistants moved faster than usual, heels clicking sharply against marble. Conversations stopped mid-sentence when they noticed him, then resumed in s
