Jake couldn’t believe what he heard Gina say, it was surprising that someone as lowly as Kai would have a woman like Catherine interested in him.

His surprise soon turned into anger that coursed through his veins and made his blood pound against his chest like the sound of a beating drum.

His fist clenched and teeth gritted as he excused himself. The sound of Gina crying over the phone was getting him even angrier but he didn’t want to reveal that.

“Stop crying, Gina,” he said comfortingly even though what he really wanted to do was yell at her until she had stopped crying, “it must have been hard on you.” He added, his voice laced with fake sympathy.

“I don’t know what Kai did but I promise that I’m going to get to the bottom of this,” he went on in a bid to comfort Gina. He couldn’t possibly let his true self show because they still believed that he was the good person and Kai was the horrible one.
