Kai walked under the heavy rain despite his condition and in the heavy rain, his steps came to an abrupt stop when he felt a pain in his chest.
His hand pressed desperately into his head as he tried his best to make sure that he didn't pass out but he was losing the fight. Just as the pain kept getting intense, he saw the bright lights of cars shine on him and he was astonished when the cars surrounded him. What is going on? Who are these people? Just as questions ran through his mind, men started getting out of the car. They had a baseball bat in hand, some of them held a machete and he was taken aback. They were thugs but what do they want with him?! The thugs started closing in on Kai, with the leader and second in command on the front while others followed, leering menacingly at Kai. He could feel their immense bloodlust and he felt like he was being cut down to shreds just by the way they glared daggers at him. “Look who it is!” The leader said, raising his machete to his shoulder as he laughed maniacally and everyone else joined in. Kai looked around in surprise and confusion, not understanding what these men wanted with him but one thing he knew for sure was that their intention wasn’t good. “BREAK HIS ARMS AND LEGS AND CUT OUT HIS TONGUE SO THAT HE WON’T BE ABLE TO SPEAK EVER AGAIN!” The leader yelled out orders. Kai didn’t have enough time to react as the loud shouts of one of the thugs rang through his ears and in just a blink of an eye, he felt something hit his stomach really hard. He was sent flying by the thugs, he laid on the floor in pain and shivered, whimpering as he wallowed in the pain that shook his entire being. The pain was so sharp, so intense that he felt like he was being torn apart. He struggled to breathe and taking one more step was also agonizing. “Shit! Why now?” Kai said through gritted teeth. He knew that it was his illness flaring up again and he didn’t have the antidote with him. Covering his mouth as he coughed and the thugs assaulted him, Kai looked at his hand to see blood. His eyes turned, pain rippled from his inside out and he felt like he was going to die. That was the objective of the thugs after all, they had come to make sure that he died and not to joke around at all. “You’re meeting your death today, Kai Benson!” The leader of the thugs sneered as his subordinates hit Kai with the baseball bat they were holding. Kai coughed out blood incessantly, the cold from the heavy downpour on the rain was having a really bad impact on him. He wanted to fend them off, to try his hardest to put up a fight but he couldn’t raise a finger because his whole body was already engulfed in tides of weariness. “Do not go easy on him! You go easy on him and I’ll kill you myself!” The thug leader threatened his subordinates and they increased their attacks, beating Kai up until he could barely breathe. Everything around him looked like they were being turned upside down, his chest palpitate and the pain was so acute that he couldn’t even move forward. There, Kai felt like his entire body was on fire, the pain was eating at him from the inside. His mouth opened as he writhed but there was no one around to help put him out of his misery or to help him from the thugs, his throat was raw with unuttered shouts for help.Kai felt his body weakening—he hadn’t taken his medicine for a month. Even without these thugs attacking him, he probably didn’t have much time left.
He spat out a mouthful of blood and stared indifferently at the thugs.
"Before you kill me, at least tell me who sent you."
Kai forced himself to stay calm, but the thugs had no interest in answering him.
"Don't waste time on this sick bastard. Just kill him already!" their leader ordered.
As the thugs closed in, Kai’s survival instinct screamed at him to make one last stand.
"Maybe you can kill me, but you’ll pay the price!" he swore to himself. Clutching a rock hidden in his hand, he resolved to take at least one of them down with him.
"Come on, then!" He watched as the first thug swung a baseball bat at his head. At the same time, he prepared to strike back with his stone.
Just as the bat was about to hit him, a sudden flash of light burst forth—
From the necklace on his chest!
"What the hell?!" the leader recoiled in shock at the sudden glow.
Kai, however, was unfazed. In fact, he felt something he hadn’t in a long time—strength. Ever since his terminal diagnosis, his body had never felt this good!
With newfound power, he swung the rock hard at the thug’s head. The man let out a pained scream and collapsed to the ground.
"Jack! What happened?!" the leader yelled in disbelief. Then his expression twisted with fury. "All of you, kill this bastard!"
The remaining thugs rushed at Kai, armed with bats and knives, intent on ending his life.
But something had changed. In his eyes, their movements seemed ten times slower.
Effortlessly, he dodged an incoming strike and countered with a powerful kick, sending the attacker crashing to the ground. Within moments, three thugs were down. The others hesitated, fear creeping into their expressions.
"B-Boss, something’s wrong with this guy..." one of them muttered.
"Shut up! There’s ten of you! Are you telling me you can’t take down one kid?!"
Kai, however, felt something was off too. His strength was fading. Years of illness, malnutrition, and the abuse from the Benson family had taken a severe toll on his body.
Seeing him start to sway unsteadily, the leader’s face lit up with glee.
"He’s weakening! Get him!"
Realizing Kai was struggling, the thugs charged again. He dodged the first attack but couldn’t avoid the second—
A baseball bat slammed into his shoulder.
"Argh!" Kai cried out in pain, collapsing to the ground.
The thugs grinned cruelly as they closed in.
"Not so tough now, are you?" the leader sneered, watching Kai struggle on the ground like a wounded animal. He waved his hand.
"Finish him!"
"Am I... going to die?" Kai watched as the thugs closed in on him, despair creeping into his heart.
But just then—
A deafening roar of engines echoed from the distance. Blinding headlights pierced through the darkness as a fleet of luxury cars sped toward them.
The leading car screeched to a halt right in front of the thugs.
Stunned, the thugs froze in place, too afraid to make a move.
An elderly man hurriedly stepped out of one of the cars, his voice low and urgent.
“The Life Crystal's signal came from here, didn’t it?” The man asked, his worry, urgency, desperation and determination clear in his voice. “Yes, it did.” One of the men in black suit responded as the old man anxiously scanned his surroundings, he was determined to find him. The gang members were intimidated by the presence of the black-clad men and dared not move an inch in fear of what was going to happen to them if they did. “Who are you?” Kai asked, his expression was cold as his brows drew together in a frown, “you’re not here to cause me trouble too, are you?” He added. On hearing Kai’s voice, the old man lifted his head to look at Kai and it was at that moment that he spotted the necklace around Kai’s neck. The old man’s eyes widened in shock, there’s no mistake, that is definitely the necklace. In an instant, he strode forward with excitement, his entire being shaking with delight as he held Kai. “I've finally found you—my grandson!”Latest Chapter

“I had no idea that much time had passed.” Kai said to himself as he got to his room, he had left before Catherine even woke up, and he hated himself because he knew that she must have been worried about him.Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and stepped into the room with an apology in his mind. He was going to apologize to her and he hoped that she would accept his apology. He had gotten so engrossed in the fight that he didn’t realize just how much time had passed, and if Teresa hadn’t stepped in, there was a big chance that he would have delayed all of them. Before leaving the bed this morning, he had made a promise to himself not to worry them or even cause them any slight inconvenience but he had been really wrong. When he stepped into the room, Kai felt as though the air had been completely knocked out of his lungs as he stared at the gorgeous woman that stood in front of me.“Oh… my… god.” He had breathed as he took in the image of her, relief washing over him. He was g

Lorenzo and Atticus could only watch as the fight between Zarus and Kai grew even more intense, the floor looked as though it was going to cave in, but it didn’t, and both Kai and Zarus looked like they were having fun.“Wow. You really are a completely different person if you’re fighting with some enthusiasm.” Kai said amidst the clanging of swords that had suddenly appeared in both their hands.Zarus didn’t say anything as he charged at Kai, who side stepped and tried to knock the sword right out of Zarus’ hands, but Zarus was quicker and he had Kai on the floor with his chest pressed to the ground.“And you don’t look like you’ve gotten any stronger.” Zarus said, and while Kai was breathing heavily, Zarus’ heart rate was normal, earning a scowl from Lorenzo.Zarus extended his hand towards Kai who took it as Zarus pulled him up. There was a little part of him that felt frustrated, the part that grew stronger because of the people that he wanted to defeat. But, during the course of

“How long do we have until we start getting ready?” Catherine asked Teresa who checked the time on the tablet she had with her. This morning when Catherine had woken up, she had been Kai, and that as she was about to step out to look for him, Teresa was already at the door and she was about to knock when Catherine opened it.“There is still time for the boys, but I don’t think we have much time like that.” Teresa responded, and when Catherine raised an eyebrow, she responded more precisely. “Four more hours.”Catherine sighed, she felt her stomach rumble and the urge to barf was suddenly so overwhelming that she had to race to the bathroom to let it all out, Teresa following right behind her.Teresa helped hold her hair up, and when Catherine was done, they both walked back to the bedroom. “Are you sure you’ll be okay to go for this?” She asked, and Catherine nodded.“I’m fine,” Catherine said with a smile, today was the day that she would eventually tell Kai that she was pregnant and

Lorenzo snarled at Zarus, who then pretended he couldn’t see that Lorenzo was angry as he continued talking. “So, while I’m here to help, I wouldn’t bank on my help if I were you.” Zarus added.”Well, unless for all of your big talks and the stupid show-offs, you’re nothing but weak pricks.” He added, and Kai sighed again, tired of how things were going.“Zarus—”“You know, I really wouldn’t interfere because trust me, I don’t care for strategic meetings or whatever.” Shadow cut in before Kai could finish talking. “But you’ve been nothing but disrespectful since you showed up at our door.” He scoffed.“And seeing as you would have nowhere else to go because, I’m guessing, if you don’t complete the mission your master entrusted you with then he wouldn’t let you go back home.” Shadow continued and everywhere fell silent.Shadow never really talked, and even though he was starting to contribute in meetings, this was still the most he had said to a stranger in one day considering the fact

“Can you guys stop coming up with a word for everything?” Catherine, who was already almost at her limit, blurted out as she looked from Kai to Zarus, and then back at Kai.“What is she talking about?” Zarus asked, pointing at Catherine while keeping his gaze on Kai. “She doesn’t know something’s gonna happen tomorrow, at your oh so big event?” He asked and Kai sighed.“Of course I know something is going to happen, I got the sign a while ago, probably before you even know and—” Zarus’ scoff caused her to stop talking as she took in a few breaths. This stranger had barely been around for five minutes and he was already getting on her last nerve, Catherine clenched and unclenched her fist as she tried to keep calm.If she could, she would have given Lorenzo the order he was waiting for; kill the prick, but after hearing a few things about who Zarus was, she knew that the man probably couldn’t die, but she wanted to get rid of him. Also, after watching Atticus and Fabio with him, she wa

The maid stepped aside as soon as Kai got to the door, and Kai could see Zarus’ irritation evident in the way he glared at him, but Kai was most excited to see him. He didn’t think that he was actually going to come, when he’d heard Zane say that he, Zane, needed Zarus to be in the human world, Kai had wanted to ask if Zarus was going to come with him, but when he woke up without Zarus, he’d thought that Zane had meant after the charity auction. “What are you doing here?” Kai asked, the question directed at Zarus before he turned to the maid. “Thank you, you can go do other things, I’ll take care of this.” He said to the maid. Without any other word or any hesitation at all, the maid bowed her head lightly and left Kai alone with Zarus who looked like he needed really long hours of sleep. “The air here is so fucking impure, I felt like I was going to barf just trying to make my fucking way to this place, and this world smells like shit too.” Zarus grunted as Kai ushered him in.
