"Kai, you dare to come back? Kneel down this instant!"
A sharp, piercing voice rang through Kai's ears.
Startled by the furious tone, he looked up—standing before him was none other than his adoptive sister, Nora Benson, the eldest daughter of the Benson family.
Beside her stood a frail-looking man—Jake Benson, the biological son of the late patriarch.
Jake had gone missing as a child, which was why the old patriarch had adopted Kai from somewhere as a substitute.
But a few years ago, Jake was found and brought back, leaving Kai as the most awkward existence in the family.
"Are you deaf? I said kneel!"
Seeing Kai's confused expression, Nora stormed forward and slapped him hard across the face.
"Nora, what’s going on?"
Kai was utterly shocked, unable to comprehend why Nora was treating him this way.
In his hand, he held a delicate glass vial containing a precious extract—one he had painstakingly retrieved from a rare medicinal herb.
With this, Nora’s chronic stomach illness could finally be completely cured.
To find this herb, Kai had spent seven grueling days searching deep in the mountains, barely surviving the ordeal.
"Still pretending to be innocent? Tell me—where did you hide the gold bracelet my father left behind?"
Fury burned in Nora’s eyes as she grabbed Kai by the collar, demanding an answer.
"Nora, calm down! I truly have no idea what gold bracelet you're talking about…"
Kai's breathing grew unsteady. Since childhood, he had suffered from a severe condition that required him to take a special medicine just to maintain his health.
But with the recent death of the Benson family’s patriarch, their finances had worsened, and there was no money left to continue purchasing his medicine.
Knowing his days were numbered, he had chosen to risk his life one last time—to find a cure for Nora’s stomach illness.
Kai lifted the glass vial and said, "I spent the past seven days searching for this. It—"
"Lies! Do you think a worthless bottle of water can clear you of suspicion?"
Nora snatched the vial from his hands and smashed it onto the ground.
Kai trembled violently, staring at the shattered glass and the precious medicine wasted on the floor.
His heart sank into despair.
Nora suffered from an incredibly stubborn stomach illness, one so severe that even painkillers couldn’t help her.
To repay the Benson family for taking him in, Kai had devoted himself wholeheartedly to helping every member of the household.
For years, he had studied medicine on his own, eventually developing a treatment that could ease Nora’s pain. But even that wasn’t enough—he continued searching for a complete cure.
And now, after finally obtaining the one medicine that could heal her for good, Nora had crushed it with her own hands!
Looking at the furious Nora, Kai unexpectedly felt a sense of calm.
"Nora, I'll say it again—I don't know anything about a gold bracelet. I've never even seen it."
Nora let out a cold laugh. "Still lying? Jake saw you sneaking into my room yesterday and then slipping out again. If you didn’t steal it, who did?"
Kai stared at Jake in disbelief. He hadn't even been home for the past seven days!
Jake hesitated before speaking, his voice tinged with reluctance. "Brother, it's not that I don’t want to help you, but sister is really angry. I just thought if you secretly returned it, you two wouldn’t have to fight…"
Kai trembled, clenching his fists as he muttered, "I really didn't steal anything…"
Slap!
Nora struck Kai across the face, her voice sharp and merciless. "You didn't steal it? Then are you saying Jake did? I give Jake thirty thousand dollars a month in allowance—he has no need to steal! You're the only one in this family who needs money! If it wasn't you, who else could it be?"
Kai was stunned by her words. "Thirty thousand dollars? I only get a hundred-dollar allowance. And didn’t you say our finances were struggling, to the point where I had to stop my medication? How does he have thirty thousand dollars to spend?"
Nora froze for a moment, then sneered.
"Struggling? Of course, we’re struggling when it comes to garbage like you. The Benson family doesn’t have money to waste on a servant's long-term medication!"
Kai stood in place, dazed. "To you… I'm just a servant?"
Nora let out another cold laugh. "What else would you be? Just because Father took you in as his adopted son doesn’t mean we ever agreed to it!"
"From the very beginning, you've always been nothing more than a servant of the Benson family!"
Hearing Nora’s cruel words, Kai, instead of feeling anger, laughed.
So, everything he had done for the past ten years—his dedication, his hard work—was merely his duty as a servant in their eyes.
They had never once seen him as family.
What a joke.
For ten years, he had used his intelligence to multiply the Benson family's assets tenfold. He had helped cure Nora’s chronic stomach illness. He had done countless things for every member of the Benson family…
Yet none of it mattered.
Looking at the shattered glass and spilled medicine on the floor, Kai suddenly felt a strange sense of relief.
"Nora… No, Miss Benson, I completely agree with you. I was never truly a part of this family."
"Glad you understand! Now, hand over the bracelet and get out of the Benson family!" Nora ordered without hesitation.
Kai let out a helpless chuckle. "I've already told you—I never stole any gold bracelet. If you don't believe me, Miss Benson, I suggest you call the police."
"And now… I’m leaving."
With a bitter smile, Kai stepped out of the Benson mansion.
As he walked away, he recalled everything he had done for the Benson family over the years. Every sacrifice, every effort—it all seemed ridiculous now.
He had secretly helped the Benson daughters achieve great success, yet now he realized they had always seen him as nothing more than a servant.
Watching Kai’s retreating figure, Nora felt an inexplicable discomfort. But the thought of him stealing, lying, and refusing to confess filled her with renewed anger.
"That bastard—I’ll have him arrested!"
Seeing that Nora was about to call the police, Jake grew anxious.
Because the truth was… Kai had never stolen the bracelet.
Jake had framed him.
If the police got involved, the truth would come out, and his entire scheme would be exposed!
Thinking quickly, Jake put on a considerate expression and gently reassured Nora. "Sister, don’t rush to call the police. We’re family—I’ll talk to Kai and convince him to return the bracelet."
Nora looked at Jake fondly, her anger softening. "You’re always so understanding. If Kai had even a tenth of your talent, I wouldn’t have minded if the Benson family acknowledged him as an adopted son."
Jake smiled on the surface, comforting Nora.
But in private, he quickly sent a message on his phone.
"Kill Kai. He can't be allowed to live."

They were both quiet for the longest time, doing nothing but listen to each other breathe, they were both exhausted but now that they were together, in each other’s arms, neither of them wanted to sleep.Catherine sighed, and turned around, her gaze instantly meeting Kai’s and holding it there for a long moment before she finally cleared her throat, wanting to say what she’s been keeping in.“I didn’t think you would make a decision as rash as that.” She said, that wasn’t what she really wanted to say but it was a start, the kind of decision Kai had made because of her were all the kinds that could have been really detrimental to his health.“Why would you think that?” Kai asked, chuckling for a bit and then stopping when he saw the seriousness in her eyes. “I mean, you should know that when it comes down to you, I wouldn’t think twice.” He finished.“I know,” she replied honestly, and that was exactly what she was scared of, why wouldn’t he put himself first? Why wouldn’t he even thi

Kai finished talking and Lorenzo didn’t say anything, not at first. He couldn’t possibly say anything, not after everything Kai had just said, hitting the nail on the head.Yes, he had been feeling frustrated but he wasn’t a child, he knew that some things were meant for them to face alone without help, and the issue with the portal was one of them but still….…. He can’t help but feel like he has failed himself. He vowed to always be by Kai’s side, promising that he was going to help Kai through everything but how would he do that if he keeps standing behind.“Dang,” Lorenzo shouted before laughing so hard that there were streaks of tears in his eyes, “I look so pathetic that you had to think up a motivational speech for me.” He laughed.“Lorenzo, I—”“I understand,” Lorenzo cut in before Kai could say anything, “and I’ll admit that I was frustrated, but after what you just said, I just want to get even stronger and help in any way I can.” He added.“If Lorenzo gets any stronger than

Kai’s gaze met his grandfather’s who only shrugged, he had no idea whether or not he should tell them and it’s not because he didn’t trust them to keep it a secret but because he didn’t want to laden them with more things to carry. He had only just found out about the divine realm and regardless of the help, and what his grandfather had told him, he had his own doubts because he couldn’t stop thinking about what they were doing when they were in a pinch. They vowed to protect him and Catherine but they had comfortably sat on their own hands and watched as they fought against a realm that’s practically immortal.“Nothing much, I promise,” Kai said, yawning and scratching the back of his head as he laid on the couch so comfortably that the gang almost didn’t want to believe that it was really ‘nothing much’.“We’ve been through too much to let ourselves get bothered by anything else, I know you can feel the energy still cackling in the air….” Kai’s voice trailed off as he smiled.“But r

Their voices rang in unison as they both stared at Fabio with a look of disbelief. What did he mean by ‘they haven’t sensed any life threatening signal from them’?Catherine’s teeth clattered as she recalled everything they went through in the other realm, it had been nothing but life threatening. And at some point, she was convinced they might actually die there. It was a good thing that she believed in Kai, and the people in this realm had faith that they were going to make it back, and if they didn’t, they were ready to come as a rescue team.“That has to be a joke, right? Right?” Catherine asked, her voice guttural, her eyes twitching as anger rolled over her skin, “it’s definitely a joke, or whatever they’re using to check the signal is broken.”“True!” Kai agreed immediately, throwing away the fact that he was supposed to be the strongest. He didn’t care anymore at this point because of what he’d heard Fabio say.“What are you talking about? Everything we went through in that he

The house felt so warm that Kai couldn’t help but smile as he stared at the cup of tea that Atticus had given to him, his heart felt full and warm as he took another sip.“I heard that, Atticus!” Teresa called through gritted teeth, she was still right beside Catherine, who was smiling so hard that she could feel her facial muscles dying.“I swear to every living god that I meant everything I said as a compliment and not a death wish.” Atticus called back, his brows raising so high that it was almost obvious he was scared of Teresa. He wasn’t scared of her but their dynamic had become one that made Teresa such a big bully that every single man, including Kai, knows not to cross her deadly path.“I don’t know about that but I’m also swearing to you that I’m not going to kill you.” Teresa called back, and Lorenzo couldn’t hold back his laughter.“That’s her basically saying she’s going to kill you the next chance she gets,” Lorenzo said amidst laughter as he made his way towards Atticus

Catherine couldn’t get rid of the smile on her face, being back home felt even better than she had expected it to be. Something warm spread across Catherine’s stomach and she smiled back at him.Weakness soon started creeping in and her eyes rolled back, the room looked like it was spinning and her legs could barely hold her up anymore.“Fuck.” She muttered as she sank onto the rug near the fireplace, still shaking. The flames painted her face in soft gold, catching the faint streaks of dirt on her cheeks. Her fingers wouldn’t stop trembling, her temples throbbed and she could almost hear her blood gushing so fast that she couldn’t differentiate it from the thumping of her heart.“There,” Teresa said as she crouched beside her, wrapping a blanket around her shou
