"Kai, you dare to come back? Kneel down this instant!"
A sharp, piercing voice rang through Kai's ears.
Startled by the furious tone, he looked up—standing before him was none other than his adoptive sister, Nora Benson, the eldest daughter of the Benson family.
Beside her stood a frail-looking man—Jake Benson, the biological son of the late patriarch.
Jake had gone missing as a child, which was why the old patriarch had adopted Kai from somewhere as a substitute.
But a few years ago, Jake was found and brought back, leaving Kai as the most awkward existence in the family.
"Are you deaf? I said kneel!"
Seeing Kai's confused expression, Nora stormed forward and slapped him hard across the face.
"Nora, what’s going on?"
Kai was utterly shocked, unable to comprehend why Nora was treating him this way.
In his hand, he held a delicate glass vial containing a precious extract—one he had painstakingly retrieved from a rare medicinal herb.
With this, Nora’s chronic stomach illness could finally be completely cured.
To find this herb, Kai had spent seven grueling days searching deep in the mountains, barely surviving the ordeal.
"Still pretending to be innocent? Tell me—where did you hide the gold bracelet my father left behind?"
Fury burned in Nora’s eyes as she grabbed Kai by the collar, demanding an answer.
"Nora, calm down! I truly have no idea what gold bracelet you're talking about…"
Kai's breathing grew unsteady. Since childhood, he had suffered from a severe condition that required him to take a special medicine just to maintain his health.
But with the recent death of the Benson family’s patriarch, their finances had worsened, and there was no money left to continue purchasing his medicine.
Knowing his days were numbered, he had chosen to risk his life one last time—to find a cure for Nora’s stomach illness.
Kai lifted the glass vial and said, "I spent the past seven days searching for this. It—"
"Lies! Do you think a worthless bottle of water can clear you of suspicion?"
Nora snatched the vial from his hands and smashed it onto the ground.
Kai trembled violently, staring at the shattered glass and the precious medicine wasted on the floor.
His heart sank into despair.
Nora suffered from an incredibly stubborn stomach illness, one so severe that even painkillers couldn’t help her.
To repay the Benson family for taking him in, Kai had devoted himself wholeheartedly to helping every member of the household.
For years, he had studied medicine on his own, eventually developing a treatment that could ease Nora’s pain. But even that wasn’t enough—he continued searching for a complete cure.
And now, after finally obtaining the one medicine that could heal her for good, Nora had crushed it with her own hands!
Looking at the furious Nora, Kai unexpectedly felt a sense of calm.
"Nora, I'll say it again—I don't know anything about a gold bracelet. I've never even seen it."
Nora let out a cold laugh. "Still lying? Jake saw you sneaking into my room yesterday and then slipping out again. If you didn’t steal it, who did?"
Kai stared at Jake in disbelief. He hadn't even been home for the past seven days!
Jake hesitated before speaking, his voice tinged with reluctance. "Brother, it's not that I don’t want to help you, but sister is really angry. I just thought if you secretly returned it, you two wouldn’t have to fight…"
Kai trembled, clenching his fists as he muttered, "I really didn't steal anything…"
Slap!
Nora struck Kai across the face, her voice sharp and merciless. "You didn't steal it? Then are you saying Jake did? I give Jake thirty thousand dollars a month in allowance—he has no need to steal! You're the only one in this family who needs money! If it wasn't you, who else could it be?"
Kai was stunned by her words. "Thirty thousand dollars? I only get a hundred-dollar allowance. And didn’t you say our finances were struggling, to the point where I had to stop my medication? How does he have thirty thousand dollars to spend?"
Nora froze for a moment, then sneered.
"Struggling? Of course, we’re struggling when it comes to garbage like you. The Benson family doesn’t have money to waste on a servant's long-term medication!"
Kai stood in place, dazed. "To you… I'm just a servant?"
Nora let out another cold laugh. "What else would you be? Just because Father took you in as his adopted son doesn’t mean we ever agreed to it!"
"From the very beginning, you've always been nothing more than a servant of the Benson family!"
Hearing Nora’s cruel words, Kai, instead of feeling anger, laughed.
So, everything he had done for the past ten years—his dedication, his hard work—was merely his duty as a servant in their eyes.
They had never once seen him as family.
What a joke.
For ten years, he had used his intelligence to multiply the Benson family's assets tenfold. He had helped cure Nora’s chronic stomach illness. He had done countless things for every member of the Benson family…
Yet none of it mattered.
Looking at the shattered glass and spilled medicine on the floor, Kai suddenly felt a strange sense of relief.
"Nora… No, Miss Benson, I completely agree with you. I was never truly a part of this family."
"Glad you understand! Now, hand over the bracelet and get out of the Benson family!" Nora ordered without hesitation.
Kai let out a helpless chuckle. "I've already told you—I never stole any gold bracelet. If you don't believe me, Miss Benson, I suggest you call the police."
"And now… I’m leaving."
With a bitter smile, Kai stepped out of the Benson mansion.
As he walked away, he recalled everything he had done for the Benson family over the years. Every sacrifice, every effort—it all seemed ridiculous now.
He had secretly helped the Benson daughters achieve great success, yet now he realized they had always seen him as nothing more than a servant.
Watching Kai’s retreating figure, Nora felt an inexplicable discomfort. But the thought of him stealing, lying, and refusing to confess filled her with renewed anger.
"That bastard—I’ll have him arrested!"
Seeing that Nora was about to call the police, Jake grew anxious.
Because the truth was… Kai had never stolen the bracelet.
Jake had framed him.
If the police got involved, the truth would come out, and his entire scheme would be exposed!
Thinking quickly, Jake put on a considerate expression and gently reassured Nora. "Sister, don’t rush to call the police. We’re family—I’ll talk to Kai and convince him to return the bracelet."
Nora looked at Jake fondly, her anger softening. "You’re always so understanding. If Kai had even a tenth of your talent, I wouldn’t have minded if the Benson family acknowledged him as an adopted son."
Jake smiled on the surface, comforting Nora.
But in private, he quickly sent a message on his phone.
"Kill Kai. He can't be allowed to live."

“I had no idea that much time had passed.” Kai said to himself as he got to his room, he had left before Catherine even woke up, and he hated himself because he knew that she must have been worried about him.Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and stepped into the room with an apology in his mind. He was going to apologize to her and he hoped that she would accept his apology. He had gotten so engrossed in the fight that he didn’t realize just how much time had passed, and if Teresa hadn’t stepped in, there was a big chance that he would have delayed all of them. Before leaving the bed this morning, he had made a promise to himself not to worry them or even cause them any slight inconvenience but he had been really wrong. When he stepped into the room, Kai felt as though the air had been completely knocked out of his lungs as he stared at the gorgeous woman that stood in front of me.“Oh… my… god.” He had breathed as he took in the image of her, relief washing over him. Lorenzo and Atticus could only watch as the fight between Zarus and Kai grew even more intense, the floor looked as though it was going to cave in, but it didn’t, and both Kai and Zarus looked like they were having fun.“Wow. You really are a completely different person if you’re fighting with some enthusiasm.” Kai said amidst the clanging of swords that had suddenly appeared in both their hands.Zarus didn’t say anything as he charged at Kai, who side stepped and tried to knock the sword right out of Zarus’ hands, but Zarus was quicker and he had Kai on the floor with his chest pressed to the ground.“And you don’t look like you’ve gotten any stronger.” Zarus said, and while Kai was breathing heavily, Zarus’ heart rate was normal, earning a scowl from Lorenzo.Zarus extended his hand towards Kai who took it as Zarus pulled him up. There was a little part of him that felt frustrated, the part that grew stronger because of the people that he wanted to defeat. But, during the course of

“How long do we have until we start getting ready?” Catherine asked Teresa who checked the time on the tablet she had with her. This morning when Catherine had woken up, she had been Kai, and that as she was about to step out to look for him, Teresa was already at the door and she was about to knock when Catherine opened it.“There is still time for the boys, but I don’t think we have much time like that.” Teresa responded, and when Catherine raised an eyebrow, she responded more precisely. “Four more hours.”Catherine sighed, she felt her stomach rumble and the urge to barf was suddenly so overwhelming that she had to race to the bathroom to let it all out, Teresa following right behind her.Teresa helped hold her hair up, and when Catherine was done, they both walked back to the bedroom. “Are you sure you’ll be okay to go for this?” She asked, and Catherine nodded.“I’m fine,” Catherine said with a smile, today was the day that she would eventually tell Kai that she was pregnant and

Lorenzo snarled at Zarus, who then pretended he couldn’t see that Lorenzo was angry as he continued talking. “So, while I’m here to help, I wouldn’t bank on my help if I were you.” Zarus added.”Well, unless for all of your big talks and the stupid show-offs, you’re nothing but weak pricks.” He added, and Kai sighed again, tired of how things were going.“Zarus—”“You know, I really wouldn’t interfere because trust me, I don’t care for strategic meetings or whatever.” Shadow cut in before Kai could finish talking. “But you’ve been nothing but disrespectful since you showed up at our door.” He scoffed.“And seeing as you would have nowhere else to go because, I’m guessing, if you don’t complete the mission your master entrusted you with then he wouldn’t let you go back home.” Shadow continued and everywhere fell silent.Shadow never really talked, and even though he was starting to contribute in meetings, this was still the most he had said to a stranger in one day considering the fact

“Can you guys stop coming up with a word for everything?” Catherine, who was already almost at her limit, blurted out as she looked from Kai to Zarus, and then back at Kai.“What is she talking about?” Zarus asked, pointing at Catherine while keeping his gaze on Kai. “She doesn’t know something’s gonna happen tomorrow, at your oh so big event?” He asked and Kai sighed.“Of course I know something is going to happen, I got the sign a while ago, probably before you even know and—” Zarus’ scoff caused her to stop talking as she took in a few breaths. This stranger had barely been around for five minutes and he was already getting on her last nerve, Catherine clenched and unclenched her fist as she tried to keep calm.If she could, she would have given Lorenzo the order he was waiting for; kill the prick, but after hearing a few things about who Zarus was, she knew that the man probably couldn’t die, but she wanted to get rid of him. Also, after watching Atticus and Fabio with him, she wa

The maid stepped aside as soon as Kai got to the door, and Kai could see Zarus’ irritation evident in the way he glared at him, but Kai was most excited to see him. He didn’t think that he was actually going to come, when he’d heard Zane say that he, Zane, needed Zarus to be in the human world, Kai had wanted to ask if Zarus was going to come with him, but when he woke up without Zarus, he’d thought that Zane had meant after the charity auction. “What are you doing here?” Kai asked, the question directed at Zarus before he turned to the maid. “Thank you, you can go do other things, I’ll take care of this.” He said to the maid. Without any other word or any hesitation at all, the maid bowed her head lightly and left Kai alone with Zarus who looked like he needed really long hours of sleep. “The air here is so fucking impure, I felt like I was going to barf just trying to make my fucking way to this place, and this world smells like shit too.” Zarus grunted as Kai ushered him in.
