The room was filled with an eerie atmosphere as Pascal's body convulsed violently, his limbs jerking uncontrollably. Everyone's eyes were fixed on him in fear, their faces pale with worry. The air was thick with tension, and the silence was oppressive.

"I've only been following the prescription from the doctor."William's face turned red with anger, and he strode over to Celina, his hand raised. "Keep your lying tongue short!" he shouted, slapping her hard on the face. Celina fell to the floor, clutching her cheek."No wonder you've refused to take a break," William spat. Mama Rachel's eyes drooped, her face sagging as her gaze fell to the floor. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "I'm just not happy about how the restaurant is. It's been years, and it's still the same. I feel like I'm not making progress." She sighed, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "I remember when I was paying off the house mortgage, it was draining me. And on top of that, I had to buy books, school supplies for Victoria... it was a struggle."Elvis's expression softened, and he reached out to touch her hand, his touch gentle. "My question wasn't meant to make you feel sad, Mama Rachel. I know how hardworking you are, and I'm proud of you." As Jade stood before Victoria, her piercing gaze locked onto his, and he felt a shiver run down his spine. "Are you not the one that did it?" she asked, her voice laced with a mix of curiosity and accusation. "Are you not the one who made the call that stopped those hoodlums from destroying my mother's restaurant?" Jade's mind racing, he hesitated, unsure how to respond. He had indeed made the call, but he hadn't personally handled the situation and he couldn't tell if the man he called really helped with how he gave excuses on phone. Perhaps, His family's influence had come into play, and one phone call had resolved the issue. But he knew that admitting to needing confirmation wouldn't bode well; Victoria might perceive it as weakness or attention-seeking.With a stammer, Jade began to speak, "Y-yes, I am... I was the one who... pulled the strings." He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing, "You know how big my family is in this city. I just had to call... one person, and ev

Mama Racheal's eyes widened in shock as Jade walked into the restaurant, a look of utter bewilderment etched on her face. The last time Victoria had introduced her boyfriend to her family, it wasn't this young man. She had assumed the engagement was a recent development, but the more she thought about it, the more confused she became. As Jade approached, Mama Racheal leaned in close to Victoria, her voice barely above a whisper. "Vic, who is this young man? And how come I didn't know about him? This isn't the last guy you brought home."Victoria's smile faltered for a moment before she forced it back onto her face. She leaned into her mother's shoulder, trying to conceal her conversation from Elvis's prying ears. "It's a long story, Mom. I'll tell you later. Just play along for now." Her voice was hushed, but Elvis's sharp ears picked up on the whispered conversation. He raised an eyebrow, a knowing glint in his eye. Victoria's eyes sparkled with pride as she boasted about her fiancé. "My fiancé is a big deal in this city. He's from the influential Lester family. When he speaks, even the Mafias and underground bosses listen." She glanced at Elvis, who was leaning against the wall, his expression unbothered. Mama Racheal smiled warmly at Victoria, then turned to Elvis. "It's nice of your fiancé help to have arrived on time, Victoria. But I must say, Elvis's bravery impressed me. He was willing to defend me even when those thugs were armed."Victoria's face darkened, her eyes flashing with annoyance. She didn't like how her mother was making Elvis seem important. To Victoria, Elvis was still the pathetic orphan she'd despised years ago. She cleared her throat loudly, her voice dripping with condescension. "Well, Mother, at least Elvis isn't a complete waste anymore. He's managed to find some use in his miserable life."As she spoke, Elvis's eyes met hers, a knowing smile playing on his lips. He sh
