A Very Big Change

"Elric?" The man named Soren Drake looked Elric up and down. There was a mocking look in his narrow eyes. "So you really got fired?"

Then he pursed his lips, holding back a smile that almost spread across his face. "I didn't expect you to end up here."

"Your grades may be high, your achievements may be many, but when it comes to work, you are very unlucky. Now you've even lost to me." As if remembering something, he glared and continued as he stepped closer. "Oh, you're also very unlucky in love."

He chuckled softly and stepped back. "Elric, in my opinion, work and love are the two most important things in life. Since you're so unlucky, why don't you disappear from this world?"

Elric's hands immediately clenched into fists. In one swift motion, he grabbed Soren by the collar of his shirt and pushed him hard into the car behind him.

"People like you have no right to comment on my life, let alone tell me to do something as despicable as that," hissed Elric.

His right hand rose to strike Soren's insolent face, causing the man to look up in panic.

[Please calm down, sir.]

Only an inch remained.

Soren even closed his eyes in fear.

But Elric managed to stop his movement.

Even so, his face was red from trying to hold back his anger with all his might.

Realizing that Elric hadn't hit him, Soren opened his eyes. "You... how dare you try to hit me," he stammered as he pushed Elric back and stood up proudly.

"Can't you see what I'm carrying? These flowers are from Mr. Maverick for Miss Evelyn. If they get damaged, can you bear the consequences? They're expensive, you won't be able to replace them!"

Elric's gaze immediately fell on the beautiful flowers.

He wanted so badly to crush them and stomp on them until they were destroyed. However, his life support system prevented him from acting on his emotions. So he was forced to suppress that desire in his heart.

"They're just ugly flowers that you usually find on the side of the gutter. They're not attractive at all," he said before walking away.

Soren stared in disbelief. "Elric, are you crazy? Even a year's salary wouldn't be enough to buy this flower!"

"I could even buy the whole shop!" exclaimed Elric, giving him the middle finger.

This made Soren stare even more, almost falling over in shock. "He... what is he doing? He's crazy."

"Five more hours," muttered Elric, sitting at the bus stop.

He had been wandering around various places, from parks to amusement centers to coffee shops, just to kill time before receiving his reward from the system.

However, time seemed to be moving slowly.

The sky was not getting dark, and the day was not ending.

"Should I just sleep?" He looked at the passing vehicles and suddenly felt refreshed, as if he had received an energy boost. "Yes. I'd better sleep so that time will pass quickly."

"If the reward is a luxury car, I will drive around the city. I will show them that I also deserve a better life," he continued, then walked towards his rented room with burning enthusiasm.

However, when he arrived there, he was confronted with his belongings being thrown out by the rental owner.

“Ma’am, what are you doing?” Elric shouted in panic.

He put down his carry-on box and grabbed his suitcase instead. “Why are my belongings being thrown out? What’s going on?”

"Didn't I just extend the lease a week ago? Do you know that what you're doing is a violation?" Of course, Elric was upset.

The landlord violated the rules that had been set and agreed upon by both parties.

It wouldn't matter if he didn't pay, and the lease expired. But he just renewed it last week!

"I don't care about violations or anything else. You'd better get the hell out of here!" snapped the landlord sarcastically.

"Don't ever show your face here again. Go!" After kicking Elric's clothes nearby, he stormed off.

Of course, Elric couldn't accept this.

He put down his suitcase and ran to block the path of the heavyset woman. "I'm not going anywhere. My home is here."

"What? Your home? Hah, you're dreaming!" snapped the landlord, pushing Elric roughly. "This is my house. Who are you to talk like that? Get out before I call the police!"

"Go ahead," Elric replied defiantly.

"As long as the contract hasn't expired, I am the owner of this house. As for you... How dare you kick me out? Aren't you afraid of the law?" While speaking, Elric scrutinized the landlord's face, which looked arrogant and confident.

As far as he knew, this woman was the type of person who was very afraid of the law.

But now she seemed to have no hesitation in kicking him out. Something was clearly wrong. A person's personality is difficult to change unless they are under tremendous pressure.

Thinking about this, Elric immediately remembered Maverick. Was it that man who did this?

Then he approached and held the landlord's hand. "Just tell me if you're being forced. I'll try to protect you. I'll make sure you won't suffer any consequences."

When Elric said this, there was panic in the landlord's eyes. But she immediately pulled her hand away and shouted, "If you come any closer, I'll scream that you're harassing me!"

"Ma'am." Elric really didn't expect her to react like this.

"Stay away from me, you bastard! I do need money, but I can't let a despicable person like you stay here," said the landlord loudly.

"Despicable? You—"

"I really didn't expect this to be your true nature." Suddenly, a soft voice was heard, accompanied by the sound of heels clicking on the floor.

Elric turned his head.

The landlord immediately ran towards Evelyn and stood beside her, his face filled with a look of submission.

This attitude made Elric think quickly. His handsome face became incredulous. "So you're the one behind all this?"

"Why? People like you don't belong in a big city like this," replied Evelyn with a slight smile.

As she approached Elric, she continued, "Don't you miss your parents? I'm giving you a way to see them."

"Is this really what you have to say after being so cold all this time?" Elric looked deeply hurt by Evelyn's attitude and her sudden change.

But Evelyn said, "It's because I'm so sick of you."

Elric's expression immediately became blank. There was no longer any look of surprise or hurt in his eyes. He completely regarded Evelyn as a stranger. "I also didn't expect this to be your true nature."

"Evelyn, I'll make you regret it.”

After that, Elric packed his things and left without paying any attention to Evelyn, who was staring at him with a complicated look in her eyes.

Elric was so busy looking for temporary accommodation that he didn't even notice that it was already dark.

The system's transparent screen appeared with a countdown alarm.

"This gift is to make sure that this system really exists and works for me," he muttered happily.
