Death!

*Badum* *Badum* *Badum*

My heart raced at an immense speed as I ran for my dear life.

It was in the middle of the night and it was still raining, my clothes were all drained and cold was sipping through my veins. My legs were getting weak, my head was becoming heavy and my eyes were, of course, becoming blurry but none of all of these mattered to me more than my life.

"There he is, don't let him escape!" A male antagonistic voice yelled behind my back.

Of course, he won't let me escape this time.

I've been doing this shitty business for years and I've always been successful, well, not this time around because I have been enmeshed in my evil deeds.

These policemen aren't giving me any time to regain my strength and my legs are already failing me.  If I don't continue to run, they'll catch up to me and arrest me.

Hell no!

I wouldn't want to end up in a goddamn freaking cell.

I just have to keep running because my life solely depends on it.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

"Shiit!" I half-screamed as I dodged the ruthless bullets being shot at me.

Three times shot at me and I'm still alive, it's all thanks to the years I spent building up my physique. At least, my reflexes are better than that of an average guy.

"Do you think you can run farther than this?" The male voice asked behind me, the voice carried a wave of mockery as it reached my ears.

I should have told him to shut up and stop blabbing but looking at the situation of things, I'm at a disposal.

We've been on the chase and run game for over an hour, I thought they would get tired and stop chasing as usual but I was wrong. These uniform men have insisted on catching me this time around.

"Ouch!" I yelp after hitting a stone.

It must be dripping blood right now as a result of the force I exerted but I don't have the time to check it, losing a toe won't cost me my life. It was even better than losing a whole life.

As I ran, I spotted a dark alley and ran towards it.

I found a hidden corner and went there to hide, 'I should be able to hide away from them.' I thought to myself as I bent down and crawled inside the small hole.

Inside the hole, I stayed for some time, waiting for when they'll get tired and go back.

"Where is he?" I heard the leader ask as they approached my hideout.

"Boss, I saw him run in this direction," one of his men replied.

"Then find him! He must have not gone far!" The leader ordered his men and they nodded and jumped into action.

I watched them move around the place in search of me. Silently, I prayed that they won't find me or I'll end up a dead man.

All of a sudden, while I was silently saying my prayers, I felt something moving close to me. I didn't dare to turn and look at whatever that thing may be, fear gripped my heart the moment I felt the cold body of that thing caress my skin.

*Hisssssssss*

What animal makes that sound?

Of all the time, why now?

What is a damn snake doing inside this hole at a time like this?

Despite the fear in me, I still chose to remain calm.

It was better than being bitten by a snake than getting killed by multiple gunshots or rusting in the cell right?

I stayed in one spot, not moving an inch. I was observing the snake as it wriggled its way around me.

'Be calm, just be calm!' I told myself with gritted teeth.

Even I decided to stay calm, what about the snake? Shouldn't it be calm as well?

"Boss, I think someone is here!" One of the men yelled out to his boss.

"Damn it, I've been caught!" I gasped in fright the moment I heard what the man said.

Fear got the best of me and I didn't know when I moved, this of course,  provoked the snake into action, and in the next second, I felt a sharp pain in my leg.

"Ahh!" I screamed out loud. I have never been bitten by a snake before, this was the first time, the pain was something I never thought to experience especially at a time like this.

"He's over here!"

I was damn into the pain that I didn't know when I was roughly dragged out from the hole by the policemen.

"So you think you could hide from us, huh?" The leader of the police team asked with a mockery expression.

I couldn't talk, I was dying of pain. Couldn't these men see that I was dying from the snake poison?

"It seems that fate has its way of dealing with thieves like you. You've been bitten by an extremely poisonous snake and it's only a matter of time before you become dead. I guess I won't have to waste my bullets on you again," he added, and then placed back his gun inside his back pocket. "Let's leave this area!" He ordered his men and walked away.

With my half close eyes, I watched as they left, laughing among themselves.

The poison inside my system was acting fast I must say, part of my body had already become dead. My legs no longer felt like mine, and the same could be said for my hands. The only part I felt was still working were my eyes, nose, ears, mouth, and lastly my brain.

"So this is it?" I mumbled with a croaked voice and then let out a wry laugh. I had spent all my life doing dirty business just to sustain myself.

I stole, kidnapped, did drugs, and many more illegal jobs to see that I have food on my table. As small as I am, no one would believe that I could do all those things. Because outwardly, I was the typical example of a poor wretched, and pitiful Ryan whose parents died in a car accident. While inwardly, I was a wolf ready to bite at my prey.

Why did I have to die now? I haven't even accomplished all my life goals. I wanted to work more, and then go to school to have some proper education from there, I'll get a job, start a family and live peacefully with them. Why did death have to come now?

As my eyes began to close, I saw all the things I've done throughout my entire life being played before my eyes like I was in some kind of movie station. I laughed at myself, why, because I had wasted all those years and in the end, achieved nothing.

"I-if I can have a second chance, c-can it not be in this same world?" I mumbled and then closed my eyes as I breathed my last.
