Chapter 2

"What should we do?"

"Should we purposely make her fail the test? In that way, she won't be able to leave this place ever."

The professor that was Euphemia's homeroom teacher was in the discussion room together with the other high rankers, currently discussing matters regarding the young girl who will take the final exam soon.

"...That'll be harsh."

However, the reason was, that the professor disagreed with what they have come to mind. He was nurturing the girl for almost his life and came to a realization that the girl had dreamt about getting out in a prison school such as the academy. He couldn't endure so many delays for a girl's freedom, he has already grown a parental affection for her.

The professor lifted his face high and mighty against the council. Revolting about how they would hold the girl's future in their hands, he couldn't simply idle on the idea anymore.

Everyone turned over him. The unpleasantries are rising harshly, everyone was not agreeing on what he wanted for the girl. Naturally, no one has asked him about his little opinion. The glare is unbelievably deadly as it may seem. Risking his position as a single dreamer, was harder than he ever thought.

For the poor professor who is being treated most-likely not higher than a dog. He could never disobey the council's decision. He was there to obey, nothing more and nothing at a very little. Thus, this tension soon fades as the president of the council takes his opinion out.

"Why not let her graduate. What is the loss?" He amusingly speaks, "We can still monitor her outside, I've heard our people have successfully made an invention that can fully control someone. Make her wear that and—poof! She'll always be our obedient little puppy."

Confident he was. The intense atmospheric sphere soon faded. The professor's trembling legs were able to ease. He sighed, glancing at the sight of the council members. He could see the demonic gluttony of each person inside that place. They want power, power that will be able to control everything, and by that, they need to develop a loyal and obedient dog to serve them.

'Ah. What a true devil.'

Euphemia's perspective.

"Damn this mother-fucking good-for-nothing vending machine!" I was shouting madly at the stupid vending machine, "This is the eighth time it crams down my precious coins in a row." I kicked it a few times but it wasn't dropping any drinks. My mouth is already parched because of thirst.

"W-why is she doing that?"

Heretofore, everyone's eyes were on me. I don't give damn care unless this machine gives me the drink I want. Although, I thought I wouldn't care about other people. I still paused and gave them a stare—a sharp, dagger-like one. Some would avoid their stares out of the blue, some would totally pretend they didn't see me making a scene at all.

Going back to what I'm doing before. I resumed kicking the goddamn machine, and for Pete's sake. "Take a goddamn drink out, you greedy machine!" I hit it many times, and kick it with the much-fulfilling strength I have. But it was no use.

It only has a click sound; the sound was not even satisfying to make me halt from breaking this thing.

"...Wait."

Someone suddenly interfered, lucky for the machine. His disassembling will be delayed. A man, shorter than me, protested as he blocked my sight from the machine.

He has that dusky hair and slight ocean-like eye colour. He wears almost the same uniform I have, except his pants. But here, his height was kind of funny. If we are on the same level, poor him he wasn't blessed with a good satisfying height at all.

"Huh." I gave him slashing stares, "What do you want? I'm not in good mood so get out of my fucking way—"

It seems he wasn't paying that much attention to me. He would just turn his back and take the slot. "What beverage would you like to get?" although, wasn't prepared that he would ask me that all of a sudden.

"T-the orange one." I stuttered, "Erm." and cleared my throat. I stepped back a little and watched him how he would do it with the broken machine. Honestly, I'm expecting him to be disappointed. I would actually want to see how unfulfilling that machine is.

However, when he put the gold coin in the sensor. It went down as the machine made that noise, the noise of working out for something, "What would you like to have?" and it talked like a bitch.

"What?" I was so puzzled I moved closer this time, "This machine is a voice vending machine. You will need to tell her what you actually want." I screwed up; it wasn't even a voice vending machine yesterday.

"I want an iced latte, and one orange juice." the man responded.

I glared at him, "I know that!" My lips are on a gap, I was surprised that's all. But I can't believe that really happened to me.

"I never said you didn't know." He offered the orange juice I requested. I didn't think he would actually give me that, but I won't refuse it. I just don't understand why is he acting so cool in front of the stupid vending machine. He wasn't cool at all. Without any further ado, he left me speechless.

"I actually didn't look stupid right there." That shorty stupid air-headed. I'm going to make sure we'll meet again and I'll make you look stupid in front of everyone. I opened the juice, "Hm..."

Finally, my mouth got this refreshing drink. In actuality, I am skipping classes. I've heard from my classmates that we're having a mock exam today. Mock exam regarding the Schatten again.

"Schatten."

There are also rankings when it comes to those demonic beasts. There are four types of levels of it. The first one was the SS rank.

The SS rank Schatten's ability is, that they can have their own form. Like if they wish to have a human form, they can actually do it without problems. They also have brains, that's what've I heard before but I haven't encountered them yet.

The S rank was actually what they call ghosts or spirits in some ways. They can absolutely control you, or possess the body that you have if you are a sick-minded retard. In my case, I wasn't even in the slight of it so I'm actually safe from them.

The A-rank can infiltrate your dreams. Let's not make it complicated, they are nightmares.

And lastly, the B-E rank is those black dust-like particles. I don't see them though, who cares about those things, they can't even be seen anyway. But I've heard those particles can start your negativity, like what happened now.

Schatten feeds on negativity after all.

The Chasseur Magia is basically a school for the Chasseurs. Chasseur stands for hunters; the hunters are us who have been trained for almost our lifetime. Lifetime might be extravagant but let's not argue about that.

When I graduate here, I'm free to pick what course of life I would want to be. I want a peaceful life, forgetting everything regarding the pain of my past. That's why, the Gold Identification is what I need, I want to live like a Princess anyway.

The Schatten will be in our final exam, that's for sure. I don't care, I'm going to slay it and, "Fucking leave this place!"

I shouted until I nearly lost my lungs.

However, someone has caught my eye. Young kiddo who was staring at me abruptly laughed. He was on the other side of the deck. He has pure white hair, just like the colour of white porcelain. I can see through here his eye's colour; they are vividly flashing in sapphire. His skin colour was paler than any normal skin I have seen, it matched his clothes.

"I also have white hair... when I activate my Artes. That is." Right now, my hair colour was black. Since Eis was my Artes, some people actually call me the Ice Queen. But that is just disgusting, and it was very common.

"Err, who cares about me?" I even go against myself, "But why the heck is that kid laughing at me? Did he find me funny?"

As I observed the kid. The kid was actually approached by higher ranks. They bowed to him and even guided him to the room where only important people could go. And for the last time, the kid made a glance at me, of course, his annoying smile will still be there before he proceeds inside.

"What a weird little guy."
