The transition through the red eye wasn’t a journey; it was a sensory eviction. Rian felt his atoms being scrubbed clean, his consciousness stretching like taffy before snapping back into a cold, metallic reality.
They hit the ground in a heap. The air here was thin, metallic, and smelled of ozone—a sterile "Safe Zone" that felt more like a server farm than a refuge.
"Is everyone in one piece?" Kael gasped, rolling over and checking his sidearm.
"I think I’m missing my dignity," Rian wheezed, pushing himself up.
"Dignity died back in the hallway, kid," Jax muttered, checking his ammo count. "We’re in the Zone. Finally."
A figure stepped from the shadows of a shimmering, semi-transparent wall. She wore armor that looked like polished moonlight, and a blade pulsed at her hip with a rhythmic, lethal blue light. This was Sera.
"You’re late," she said, her voice cutting through the air like a razor.
"The building decided to delete itself," Rian offered, dusting off his jeans. "Traffic was a nightmare."
Sera narrowed her eyes, stepping closer. She ignored Kael completely, locking her gaze onto Rian. "General Kael told me you led them through the vortex. And you’re not even bleeding."
"I’m just lucky," Rian said, trying to step back.
"Luck doesn't navigate a systemic collapse," Sera countered, her hand hovering near her hilt. "What’s your class, civilian?"
"I’m a Glitch," Rian said.
"Glitch? Never heard of it," she murmured, circling him. "You’re either the most dangerous man in this sector or the most oblivious."
"Can we go with 'oblivious'?" Rian asked. "It’s easier for everyone involved."
Sera laughed—a cold, sharp sound. "I like your style. But don't think your modesty is going to hide what you are."
"I’m really not hiding anything," Rian sighed.
"We need to move," Kael interrupted, his voice tight. "The integration is catching up. The boss-mob in the next sector is already spawning."
"A boss?" Rian asked, his stomach knotting. "Can’t we just… go around?"
"The map says the extraction point is behind it," Sera said, pointing to a flickering holographic pillar. "We fight, or we get wiped."
They crept through the next corridor, a labyrinth of shifting data-walls. Rian’s vision began to spark with those familiar purple lines, but this time, they weren't showing a path. They were pointing toward a gaping, jagged hole in a massive, armored construct standing guard over the exit.
"Wait," Rian whispered, freezing in place.
"What now?" Jax hissed. "We don't have time for your feelings."
"It’s not a feeling," Rian whispered, pointing. "Look at the creature's back. The armor plating… it’s misaligned. It’s a literal design flaw."
Sera followed his finger. "That’s a Void-Titan. You’re telling me that’s a weak point?"
"I’m telling you that if you hit that, it’s going to collapse," Rian said.
"It’s too high up," Kael noted. "Nobody can reach that without getting vaporized."
"I can," Sera said, a grin creeping across her face. "Rian, if you’re right, you’re a genius. If you’re wrong, I’m killing you first."
"Fair enough," Rian gulped.
Sera surged forward, a blur of motion. The Titan roared—a sound of grinding gears and tortured souls. It swiped a massive, electrified claw, but Sera danced under it, her blade humming.
"Rian, keep tracking it!" she yelled, diving behind a pillar.
"It’s shifting!" Rian shouted, his vision turning purple. "It’s going to lunge to your left! Go right! No, wait—aim for the glowing seam!"
Sera didn't hesitate. She vaulted off a piece of falling debris, her sword held high. She plunged it into the exact spot Rian had indicated.
CRACK.
The Titan shrieked, the sound fading into static as its armor shattered. It collapsed into a heap of useless code.
Sera landed gracefully, breathing hard. She walked over to Rian, her eyes glowing with newfound respect. "You didn't just spot a flaw. You predicted its movement. How?"
"I just saw the lines," Rian said, rubbing his temples. "Everything here has a pattern. It’s just… ugly code."
Sera reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder. It felt heavy—possessive. "You’ve been holding out on us, Rian. You’re not just a scout. You’re a tactical interface."
"I’m a clerk, Sera. I just want a nap," Rian groaned.
"You’re a teacher," she whispered, her voice dropping to a dangerous, intimate tone. "And you’re going to teach me everything you see."
"We’re going to be here a while, aren't we?" Kael muttered, looking at the dead Titan.
"Oh, much longer than that," Sera said, never taking her eyes off Rian.
Rian felt a fresh wave of nausea hit him, but it wasn't from the fight. His interface flickered, overriding his entire field of vision with a new message, bright and pulsating:
‘SYSTEM BREACH: USER [RIAN] RECOGNIZED AS [SYSTEM ARCHITECT]. ACCESSING ROOT DIRECTORY... 10%...’
He stumbled back, his pulse racing. If they found out he was the one actually rewriting the rules, they wouldn't just use him—they’d tear him apart to see how he worked.
"Rian? You okay?" Sera’s voice had lost its sharpness, replaced by a terrifying, predatory warmth.
"Yeah," Rian said, his voice trembling. "I’m just… really, really tired."
"Don't worry," Sera said, leaning in close. "I’ll make sure you stay awake."
Rian looked past her, toward the exit, and saw the purple lines turn blood-red. The floor behind them began to dissolve, not into void, but into something far worse—a wall of resetting data, closing in on them like a trash compactor.
"Sera," Rian whispered, his heart stopping. "We need to run. Now."
"Why? We’re safe," she countered, her hand tightening on his arm.
Rian pointed behind her, his finger shaking. "Because the System isn't just resetting the level. It’s deleting the players."
As the white light of the purge swallowed the room, Rian felt his interface shift again.
‘NEW QUEST: SURVIVE THE SYSTEM’S CURIOSITY.’
"Hold on to me," Sera commanded, finally sensing the threat.
But as the walls closed in, Rian saw his own hand beginning to turn into raw, unformatted code. The secret was out, and it wasn't just the monsters hunting him anymore.

Chapter 130
"The wire's snapped!" Vance roared over the deafening whine of the approaching armored carrier's turbine engines. He dropped to his knees on the freezing iron webbing of the trestle bridge, his gloved fingers frantically clawing at the frayed ends of the severed copper cable. "A round must have clipped it right when that last turret opened up! The remote detonator's dead, Kael! It's completely dead!"Kael threw himself down beside Vance, ignoring the violent, white-hot agony screaming through his injured leg. He grabbed the severed wire, staring at the raw, frayed copper ends where a corporate bullet had cleanly sheared the connection just seconds ago. Below them, the massive treads of the lead personnel carrier thundered onto the absolute edge of the iron bridge, sending a harmonic vibration straight up through the rusted girders that rattled their teeth."We don't have time to splice it!" Kael shouted, his voice cracking against the wind.
Chapter 129
"I’ll cover the ridge, you two get under the deck," Sera said, her voice dropping into that cold, absolute tone she used whenever the shooting started and the world narrowed down to the next heartbeat. She jammed her shoulder against the frozen shale, resting the barrel of her rifle across a jagged shelf of granite. "If a single one of those scouts looks down into the ravine, I’ll take out their optics before they can blink.""Just save enough rounds to keep your own head down," Vance muttered, hoisting the heavy canvas crate of homemade blasting powder back onto his shoulder with a sharp grunt. He spared a single, grim look toward Kael, whose face was beaded with cold sweat despite the sub-zero air. "You're moving too slow, boss. If we get caught out in the open on that iron webbing, we're just targets on a platter.""I'm moving fast enough," Kael snapped back, his teeth gritted as he dragged his stiff, half-frozen leg forward.
Chapter 128
"They're not just early, they're moving like they know the bridge is the only way across," Kael said, his voice a low, raspy grind as he dragged himself closer to the edge of the snowy embankment. Below them, the massive treads of the lead corporate personnel carrier churned the fresh powder into a blinding spray of white and black exhaust. "Vance, grab that detonator harness. We have to move right under the primary girder span before the headlights sweep this side of the pillar.""Move?" Vance let out a short, harsh laugh that sounded like dry leaves scraping over ice. "With a leg that looks like it's about to fall off and a crate of unstable powder that's currently shaking like a wet dog? We're going to slide right down into their laps.""Do you want to slide down or do you want to stay up here and get turned into red mist by a heavy machine gun turret?" Sera snapped, unhlinging her rifle with a practiced, fluid motion. She pulled the bolt
Chapter 127
"The wind's dying down," Sera whispered, her boots sinking two inches into the crust of the scree slope as she dropped flat against the frozen shale. "Which means the fog is clearing out faster than we planned. Look at the lower rail spur."Kael didn't need the warning. He pulled himself up beside her, biting back a sharp curse as his bad leg took an awkward angle on the ice. Below them, stretching across the yawning, grey-white maw of the eastern gorge, the high-trestle rail bridge stood like a skeleton of rusted iron. And crawling along the upper ridge, breaking through the thinning squall like iron-jawed beasts, came the unmistakable, high-intensity headlights of corporate armored personnel carriers."They're early," Vance muttered, sliding down the shale behind them with the canvas-wrapped crate balanced precariously against his chest. He dumped the heavy explosive package onto the frozen dirt with a dull, muffled thud. "By at least twen
Chapter 126
"So, a normal Tuesday in the valley," Sera said, emerging from the dim recesses of the upper corridor with her rifle slung over her shoulder, her breath pluming white in the freezing draft. "If we're going down the scree before the wind shifts, we move now. The corporate scouts on the outer perimeter cycle their patrols every forty minutes. We have a three-minute window between the western ridge sweep and the lower rail-line patrol."Vance hoisted one of the heavy, canvas-wrapped crates onto his shoulder, testing its balance with a scowl. "If that wind picks up any faster, it won't matter what the patrols are doing. We'll be sliding down the mountain inside an avalanche of our own making.""Then don't drop it," Kael said, pulling his heavy wool coat tighter across his chest to mask the tremor in his hands. He checked the slide of his sidearm, ensuring the mechanism wasn't jammed with frost. "Vance takes the lead with the primary charge. Sera
Chapter 125
"And if a stray snowflake hits it the wrong way while we're carrying it down the scree, we won't even need the bridge to blow ourselves to pieces," Vance muttered, his gaze shifting from Rian's fever-bright eyes to the heavy, canvas-wrapped crates resting on the rusted floorboards."Nobody's blowing up here," Kael said, his voice hard as he stepped forward, testing his weight on his bad leg with a sharp wince he hid behind a flat, emotionless stare. "We pack it carefully, we move in the blind of the storm, and we plant every ounce right into the primary load-bearing joints of the trestle. Rian, are the detonators stable?""As stable as homemade black powder wired into corporate remote triggers can be," Rian replied, his left hand deftly securing the housing panel of the radio. "Which is to say, don't drop them, don't shake them too hard, and for God's sake, don't let the damp get inside the wiring harness.""So, a normal
