I stood, confused—he was my partner, not an opponent.

But without warning, Josh charged at me, his eyes fixed with a fierce intensity.

I barely had time to brace myself as his fist rocketed toward my face. I quickly ducked, dodging his fist.

I countered with a kick aimed at his side, but he anticipated my move, sidestepping and grabbing my leg.

In an instant, I was off balance, crashing to the ground. The impact rattled through my body, and I struggled to regain my steps.

Josh was relentless. He didn’t give me a moment to breathe. He lunged again, this time landing a solid punch to my ribs. Pain exploded, and I gasped, doubling over.

I tried to push back, throwing a wild punch, but he ducked and countered with a sharp uppercut that caught me square in the jaw.

“Arghhh!” I groaned, stumbling back.

I was disoriented. My vision blurred for a moment, but I shook my head, trying to clear it. I couldn’t let him see my weakness, he wanted a fight and I was going to give it to him.

I charged forward, desperate to take him down.

I threw a series of jabs, but Josh was too quick. He dodged and weaved, effortlessly avoiding my strikes.

“Come on, Ethan! You’re better than this!” he shouted, his voice a mix of encouragement and challenge.

I felt the frustration boiling inside me, but I couldn’t harness it. Instead, I lunged again, but this time Josh was ready. He sidestepped and delivered a powerful kick to my midsection. I gasped, the wind knocked out of me, and I crumpled to the floor, struggling to catch my breath.

“Get up!” Marcus shouted from the sidelines, but my body felt heavy, my muscles burning in pain.

Josh approached again, and I could see his determination. He wasn’t holding back, infact, at this point, I wasn’t his best friend, I was a stranger—an opponent.

I forced myself to stand, but as I rose, he charged again, a flurry of punches coming my way. I managed to block a few, but one punch landed hard on my cheek, sending me sprawling to the ground once more.

How come? I could deafeat five huge men but why can’t I take Josh down?

I pushed myself up again, but my body protested. I could feel a sharp pain in my ribs and a throbbing ache in my jaw. I glanced at Marcus, who was watching intently, his expression serious.

“You need to focus!” he called out, but all I could think about was how I had failed to keep up.

Josh took a step back, his fists still raised, waiting for me to make my move. I lunged one last time, fueled by a mix of anger and desperation. But he sidestepped again, and before I could react, he landed a decisive blow—a right hook that sent me crashing to the floor.

“Arghhh! Fuck!” I hit the ground hard, pain radiating through my body as I lay there, breathless.

I could hear the sound of my heart pounding in my ears, as my vision slowly began to blur.

“Ethan!” Josh knelt beside me, bringing me back to the moment. I could see concern etched on his face. “Are you okay?”

I groaned, trying to catch my breath. My body ached, but it was the feeling of failure that stung the most.

“You’ve got to learn to control your emotions,” Marcus said, stepping closer. “This isn’t just about strength. It’s about focus. You would have defeated Josh, or both of you would have been on the same page, but you let your emotions get the best of you,”

Marcus nodded at Josh who nodded back to him, then Josh turned to leave. While Marcus turned back to face me.

You have to learn to control you feelings, Josh is your best friend outside of this, but right now, he is your partner, and you know what that means, partners aren’t emotionally attached. This is a Job, like business, only much more serious. Keep that in mind,” Marcus said, turning to leave also.

I nodded weakly, knowing that this was a lesson I had to take to heart…

Luckily, just as I was dealing with the arrogant receptionist, my attention was drawn to a figure entering the mall. This man exuded power; everyone turned to look at him, some trying to maintain their composure, just like the receptionist, whose pride faltered for a moment.A smile crept across my face as an idea clicked in my mind. I had no time to waste, but I refused to let that moron get away with his mockery.Just as I was about to approach the powerful newcomer, I noticed a group of men in black suits rushing through the entrance. There were six of them, and as their eyes locked onto me, a chill ran down my spine—I knew they were there to kill me.I turned to run, but the unmistakable sound of gunfire echoed through the mall as they fired at me.“Bang! Bang!”I kept running without looking back, needing to find a safe place as people screamed and scattered in every direction, shopping bags flying as panic set in. I whipped out my gun, dashing toward a nearby store. Inside, I du

  • Again.

As I fought with the decision, the bike swerved slightly, reminding me of the risks and dangers around me.My heart raced not just from fear but from the uncertainty of who I could trust.“What if this is a trap?” I thought, recalling every moment of deceit I’d encountered with Marcus. Why did Marcus want me dead? Was he the one who had killed my father? While still contemplating, my phone began to buzz again, consistently this time.I answered, placing the phone to my ear when I heard Josh call to me. “Ethan,” he said, and I fell silent, unable to speak because there was something unfamiliar about Josh's voice—he sounded a bit desperate, or at least that’s what I thought.I took a deep breath before answering him, keeping my eyes on the road.“Josh!” I said, trying to mask the panic in my voice.“Where are you?!” he demanded, urgency echoing louder through the speaker.“I’m on the highway,” I replied. “I heard what happened. Are you okay? Are you hurt?” He asked, and I felt a sudden

  • Bang!!!

“Over there! It’s him!” one of them yelled, and I felt my heart drop as they charged toward me.I needed to hide—there was no way I could take on six armed men.But just before I could retreat, I spotted a metal pipe on the ground. It wouldn’t do much against guns, but I had to try.I crouched behind the wall, clutching the pipe tightly, my breath quickening as I listened to the approaching footsteps.Suddenly, one of the men lunged forward, gun raised and aimed directly at me. In a split second, I wiped the gun aside with the pipe, the metal clanging against the weapon. Before he could react, I smashed the pipe into his stomach, knocking the wind out of him.As he stumbled back, I instinctively used his body as a shield, feeling the bullets whizz past me. I began to panic again, but I kept my focus. With a quick glance, I saw the fallen gun on the ground. I bent low, snatching it up just as the remaining men regrouped and aimed their weapons in my direction.I squeezed the trigger, f

  • Danger!

“How much is it?”“Let’s just say your father was a quadrillionaire, which means—” he said, brow raised. “Are you for real? Am I a quadrillionaire?” I asked as he nodded. “Yes, Ethan, you are. But I trust that you will be able to multiply that over the years, with your new company and others to come. I believe you will make triple that in the next few months,” Marcus said, picking up his phone because it had just buzzed with a text.“Hold on, I have to make a quick call,” he said, getting to his feet to leave. In the few times I had been with Marcus, he wouldn’t step out to make a phone call if he wasn’t hiding something from me.Thankfully, I had all I needed right now, and all I had to do was find my way forward, away from this mess.I stood up to leave as well, but when I got to the door, I paused.I could hear Marcus speaking to someone on the phone again; this time his tone was lower because he obviously didn’t want me to hear him.I leaned in closer, pressing my ear to the doo

No one knows the password except me,” he said.“Well, let’s just say I have my ways. Now let’s talk business,” I said, immediately diverting the topic. “About my father’s company, I’m here for the documents,” I said, and I watched a kind of emotion cross his face—not the kind I expected; he was completely pleased by my words.“Sure, I know you’re still mad at me for pulling that stunt on you, but I had to get you in a way you weren’t expecting,” he said, searching for the documents on his desk while I ignored him.All I wanted was to get the hell out of there.“Here,” he said, handing me a file—one that resembled the one he carried the first time I encountered him. It was the same.“Here are all the documents you need

  • An Urgent Message.

“Uh, about that, I, um,” I stuttered, unable to find the right words when I heard a knock on the door.“Who is it?” Marcus asked. “It’s me, sir. I have an urgent message for you,” came an unfamiliar voice, that of a lady.Marcus pressed a button on the controller to let her in.Once the door opened, my eyes caught sight of a brown-haired, middle-aged lady. She glanced up at me, her eyes flickering in shock, but she immediately masked it with a smile.“Good day, sir,” she greeted, and I nodded, wondering if she knew about Marcus’s plan or if there was something else in the way she looked at me.“Sir, we have news on the Orions. They were spotted boarding their private jets,” the lady said, handing Marcus some pictures while she handed me some as well.I took them from her, even though my initial plan was to get out of there. I needed to play things safe for my own life.I glanced at the pictures. It showed a man wearing sunglasses, with black hair and a black coat, alongside a woman
