Zayyan Mahardika is the fastest delivery rider in the city, known for his 'impossible' deliveries and a mouth that gets him into trouble. When he crashes a high-stakes board meeting to deliver spicy laksa to the ice-cold CEO Keisha Villareal, he doesn't expect to be hired as her personal 'exclusive' courier. Between high-speed chases, corporate sabotage, and a simmering passion that burns hotter than a ghost pepper, Zayyan must protect Keisha while hiding his past as the disgraced heir to a fallen empire. In a world where food is fuel and love is a liability, Zayyan is about to show Keisha that some things are worth the express delivery.

Chapter 1: The Three-Star Breach

"You’re kidding me, right? Budi, tell me you’re kidding."

Zayyan Mahardika adjusted the straps of his insulated delivery backpack, staring up at the obsidian glass monolith that was the Villareal Global Headquarters. A massive digital sign above the revolving doors scrolled a continuous, cold message: NO UNSCHEDULED DELIVERIES. NO COURIERS BEYOND THIS POINT. ALL PACKAGES MUST BE DROPPED AT LOADING DOCK C.

"I wish I was, Zay," a crackling voice replied through Zayyan’s earpiece. "But the client added a hundred-dollar tip on the app. The note just says: 'Deliver to the 52nd floor boardroom. Do not let it get cold. If you fail, I’m giving you a one-star review and a formal complaint to the health department.'"

Zayyan let out a sharp, jagged laugh, checking the timer on his phone. "One star? Man, my 4.9 rating is the only thing keeping my ego alive. And she’s threatening the health department over a bowl of laksa?"

"Not just laksa, Zay. That’s Madam Chen’s 'Inferno Special.' If that soup cools down even two degrees, the noodles turn into rubber. You’ve got six minutes before the 'freshness window' slams shut."

"Six minutes to get past three layers of corporate security and fifty-two floors of 'Go Away' energy?" Zayyan grinned, a reckless glint in his dark eyes as he kicked his kickstand up. "Hold my helmet. I’m going in."

"Zay? Don’t do anything stupid! Zayyan!"

Zayyan ignored the voice, eyeing the heavy-set security guards flanking the main entrance. They looked like they’d been recruited from a 'Bulky Dudes with No Sense of Humor' convention.

"Excuse me, fellas!" Zayyan shouted, walking toward them with a stride that suggested he owned at least forty percent of the building. "Special delivery for the Queen of the Castle. Coming through!"

The head guard, a man whose neck was wider than Zayyan’s thigh, stepped forward. "Read the sign, kid. Dock C. Around the back. Now move before I move you."

"Dock C is for boxes and sadness," Zayyan said, tapping his watch. "This is spicy laksa. It’s a time-sensitive biological emergency. You really want to be the guy who stood between a hungry CEO and her shrimp paste? That’s a career-ending move, man."

"I don't care if it's the Fountain of Youth. Get out of here."

Zayyan sighed, his shoulders dropping in mock defeat. "Fine, fine. I’ll go to Dock C. But hey, is that a dent in that black SUV over there? The Bentley? Looks like someone keyed it."

The guards instinctively turned their heads toward the VIP parking lane. In that split second, Zayyan wasn’t a delivery boy; he was a blur of neon wind. He didn't run for the door—he ran for the decorative marble pillar to the left.

"Hey! Get back here!"

Zayyan didn't look back. He planted a foot on the marble, propelled himself upward, and grabbed the edge of the first-floor mezzanine railing. With a fluid, cat-like grunt, he swung his body over the glass partition.

"Budi, I’m in the lobby. Well, technically I’m on the ceiling of the lobby. How’s the heart rate?"

"My heart rate? I’m going to lose my job!" Budi’s voice rose an octave. "Where are you?"

"Hanging off a chandelier-looking thing," Zayyan grunted, pulling himself up onto a maintenance catwalk. "Tell the kitchen to start the victory laksa. I’m halfway there."

"You’re on the second floor! That’s not halfway!"

"Optimism, Budi! It’s the secret ingredient!"

Zayyan sprinted along the catwalk, dodging a confused janitor. He reached the elevator bank, but the digital displays showed all cars were locked for the board meeting.

"Lifts are dead," Zayyan muttered, looking at the emergency stairwell door. "Locked from the outside. Great. Real safe, Villareal."

"Give up, Zay. Just leave it at the desk."

"And lose that hundred bucks? No way. My bike needs a new exhaust." Zayyan looked up at the atrium's structural ribs. "Okay, let’s see if those parkour classes were worth the tuition I never paid."

He leaped from the catwalk, catching a steel support beam. Below, security guards were shouting into their radios, pointing up at the human fly scaling their architectural masterpiece. Zayyan scrambled up the diagonal beams with terrifying speed, his fingers gripping the cold metal.

By the time he reached the 50th-floor service ledge, his lungs were burning, and the scent of spicy coconut milk was wafting from his backpack, taunting him.

"I can smell it, Budi. It’s still hot."

"You’re a madman. You’re actually going to do it, aren’t you?"

"I’m at the 52nd-floor balcony. Just gotta find the right window."

Inside the Villareal boardroom, the atmosphere was thick enough to choke a horse. Keisha Villareal sat at the head of a mahogany table that cost more than a suburban house. She stared at the trio of gray-haired investors across from her, her expression a mask of bored ice.

"The numbers are clear, Keisha," the oldest investor, Arthur, droned. "Your 'innovation' budget is bleeding us dry. We need to see cuts. Immediate cuts. Starting with the logistics department."

Keisha leaned back, her fingers laced together. "Innovation is why we aren't a fossil like your firm, Arthur. If I cut the budget, we stop moving. If we stop moving, we die."

"You’re being emotional," another man chimed in. "Perhaps you’re just… hungry. It’s well past lunch. Maybe a salad would help you clear your head and see reason?"

Keisha’s eyes flashed with a cold, dangerous light. "A salad? You think my logic is tied to my glucose levels?"

"We just think a more… traditional approach is needed," Arthur said, smiling condescendingly. "Someone with a bit more 'steadiness.' We’re considering a vote of—"

THUMP.

The entire board turned toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. Fifty-two stories up, a man in a sweat-stained windbreaker was plastered against the glass like a wayward moth.

"What on earth is that?" Arthur gasped.

Keisha froze. The man outside grinned, his face flushed, and tapped on the glass. He pointed to his backpack and then to his watch.

"Is that… a delivery boy?" Keisha whispered, her heart doing a strange, frantic hop in her chest.

Zayyan slid the balcony door open—the one Keisha had left cracked for fresh air—and tumbled into the room. He didn't fall; he rolled, coming to his feet in one smooth motion. The room smelled suddenly of rain, sweat, and something intensely spicy.

"Who are you?" Arthur roared, standing up. "Security! Call security!"

"Relax, Pops," Zayyan panted, swinging his backpack around. "I’m just the guy who doesn't let soup get cold."

He marched straight past the stunned investors, his boots leaving faint smudges on the designer carpet. He stopped right in front of Keisha. She was even more striking up close—sharp features, eyes like flint, and a presence that felt like a physical weight.

"One Inferno Special Laksa," Zayyan announced, slamming the plastic container onto the mahogany table. It hit with a satisfying thud. "Extra shrimp, no bean sprouts, and enough chili to restart a dead heart."

He popped the lid. A cloud of fragrant, spicy steam billowed out, hitting Keisha square in the face.

Keisha stared at the bowl, then up at Zayyan. He was a mess. His hair was windblown, his hands were scraped from the climb, and he was grinning at her with a level of audacity she hadn't seen in a decade.

"You climbed the building," she said, her voice surprisingly steady. "For a fifteen-dollar soup."

"It was twenty-two dollars with the extra shrimp," Zayyan corrected, leaning onto the table with his palms. "And I didn't climb it for the soup. I climbed it because your sign said I couldn't."

The room was silent for a beat. Arthur was sputtering. "This is an outrage! Keisha, have this vagrant arrested immediately! This is a breach of—"

"Shut up, Arthur," Keisha snapped, her eyes never leaving Zayyan’s.

She picked up the plastic spoon Zayyan had tucked into the side of the bag. She took a sip of the broth. The heat bloomed in her chest, sharp and defiant. It was perfect.

"It’s still hot," she murmured.

"I told you," Zayyan said, his voice dropping an octave, losing some of its playful edge. "I don't fail a delivery. Ever."

Keisha looked at his eyes—they were fearless. In a world of men who bowed to her and men who tried to break her, this boy looked at her like she was just a person who was hungry. A person who deserved a good meal.

"You broke through three layers of top-tier security," Keisha said, standing up slowly. She was several inches shorter than him, but she felt like a giant. "You bypassed the biometric elevators. You scaled the exterior scaffolding. All for a hundred-dollar tip?"

"Well," Zayyan shrugged, "the tip was nice. But I also really hate one-star reviews."

Keisha stepped closer, the scent of the laksa mixing with the faint, electric smell of the storm outside. The investors were shouting into their phones, and the sound of heavy boots echoed in the hallway as security finally arrived.

The doors burst open. "Ma'am! Step away from him!" the head guard shouted, drawing his taser.

Keisha didn't move. She reached out, her fingers closing firmly around Zayyan’s forearm. His skin was hot, his pulse thrumming against her thumb.

"Don't touch him," Keisha commanded, her voice cutting through the room like a blade.

"But Ma'am, he's—"

"He’s my new employee," Keisha said, her gaze fixed on Zayyan. A slow, predatory smile spread across her lips. "The logistics department was in need of a 'traditional' upgrade, wasn't it, Arthur?"

Zayyan blinked, his grin wavering. "Whoa, wait. I already have a job. I’m an independent contractor. I like the bike. I like the wind."

Keisha’s grip tightened. Her eyes narrowed, a strange, burning fascination lighting them from within.

"Not anymore," she whispered, loud enough only for him to hear. "I don't like sharing things that are this… efficient."

She turned to the guards, then back to the stunned board members. "Meeting adjourned. I have a contract to negotiate."

"Wait, contract?" Zayyan laughed, though he didn't pull his arm away. "You haven't even seen my resume. It’s mostly just 'fast' and 'doesn't die easily.'"

"That’s all I need," Keisha said. She looked at his scraped knuckles and then back to his eyes. "From now on, you don't deliver for an app. You deliver for me. Exclusively."

Zayyan looked at the high-powered CEO, then at the bowl of laksa, then at the grip she had on his arm. "Is this the part where I say I’m expensive?"

"Name your price," Keisha replied, her voice a low, dangerous purr.

Zayyan grinned, the thrill of the climb finally being eclipsed by a different kind of rush. "Well, for starters? You’re gonna need to buy me a much faster bike."

"Deal," Keisha said. "Now sit down. You’re going to watch me eat this soup, and then you’re going to tell me exactly how you got past my thermal sensors on the 40th floor."

Budi’s voice crackled one last time in Zayyan’s ear. "Zay? You still there? Did they kill you?"

Zayyan reached up and clicked the earpiece off. "Sorry, Budi. I think I just got a promotion."
