Kane froze in place.

The bag, tightly clutched to his chest fell to his feet and files sprawled all over the floor.

The man who had introduced himself as James Voss quickly packed it up as if under a quiet command. The respect and obedience was unmistakable.

The flashes of cameras kept hovering on the scene.

James smiled at him, holding the bag in one hand. He understood Kane's expression– confusion.

“Young master Kane. I know you're confused but if you'll please follow us. I'll explain things to you.” James Voss said calmly, carefully selecting the words he speaks. A kind of calmness that would make people wonder if he's talking to a king.

Yes. Kane is a king. A king with a lost crown but James had come with the crown.

“Young master?” Kane finally found his voice, confused. “I think this is a mistake. Everest consortiums?” Calling the Everest consortiums made his voice trembled.

It is not a rumour. Everest consortiums are the giant organizations that rule Ember city. They're monumental and they touch all areas of business– finance, science and Technology, banking, Technology, Clothing and fabrics—

They literally spread all over the world, dominating the world of business. Just last week, no one knows if it was one of those false rumors but the ghost founder of the gigantic organization was said to be involved in a plane crash and that cost his life.

James smiled at him, his expression soft. "You need to believe it Young master Kane. Please if you'll follow us.” James was pleading for him to follow them.

Kane couldn't believe it.

He looked around. He hates attentions and he is causing one already. He swallowed lumps and turned to James.

Before he could speak, James who had noticed his uneasiness said calmly.

“You can give me a call young master anytime you're deemed fit for us to come back.” He reached his pocket and fished out a two card.

One was a contact card and the other is...it looks strange but he recognized it. It was a black card!!

He almost blurted it out but he pursed his lips.

As a banker, he recognized the black card. It's exclusive to only VIP customers in the bank and only 1 customer owns it at Globulex Bank.

Before the card would be given to any customer, such person must have not less than $1 million dollars on his bank account.

“Here is my number master Kane and your father prepared this for you before– ” He paused, his face dropped to a sad. “..it contains just $100 million dollars.” He added nonetheless.

The amount was scary in Kane's ear. He had never seen such an amount money in his life.

And he has a father? Really, nothing was making sense yet.

“Will you permit us to leave now master?" James requested, the respect obvious.

Kane gulped hard and nodded as an afterthoughts.

“Thanks master.” James said and he bowed. The men did the same thing and then they raised their head and walked away.

Kane was stupified. He stared at the card. Is this some kind of fascinating joke? A dream? He didn't understand a thing but resting on his palm is the black card containing $100 million dollars!

Kane was happy but still skeptical. He has to confirm if this wasn't a dream or the men were only toying with his emotions.

He entered Primax store to get Juliana the necklace she had always wanted. He has to confirm if the card is original but he also feared he might get embarrassed in the store if he couldn't pay for the necklace after picking it. Or he get arrested for using a fake card for transactions.

Nonetheless, he took a deep breath and shrugged then entered the store.

The store was quiet with only soft hums of idle conversations from customers. A kind of quietness that indicated opulence. Only the rich and elites in the city purchase stuffs at Primax stores.

He couldn't believe he was inside that same store. Something he had never imagined would happen in two years time.

Show glasses displayed fine and crystalline necklaces. Necklaces that steal attention and catch it. They sparkled, catching the soft glow of the light that added warmth to the store.

Kane stopped at a particular necklace. He imagined it's perfection around Juliana's neck. It glows with pure small diamonds fixed round it.

“Good evening sir. Welcome to the Primax store.” A voice came from behind him, cutting his attention from the necklace.

Kane stepped aside to see a female staff member of Primax smiling at him. She dressed smartly in a white shirt and black skirt which fitted her. A badge on her chest displayed her name; Mira.

“What will you be getting from us sir?" Mira asked politely, her smile unwavering.

“Thanks…erm..I'm getting this.” He pointed at the necklace.

Mira gave a practiced smile and stepped closer to the display glass. She raised her brow slightly.

“That's the Diamond in the lake necklace and it costs $500,000 sir. Are you still willing to purchase it?" She said, trying to mask her disbelief beneath her calm voice.

Not everyone who enters the store have the intention to make a purchase. Some only come for window shopping and Mira had thought Kane was here for that. Even though his dressing looks formal and neat but he didn't look like someone from a wealthy background.

Kane nodded, his confidence flickering. “I'm..I'm getting it.” The words barely made it out of his lips.

“Alright sir. The payment desk is over there.” She gestured and walked over to the counter while Kane followed her quietly.

“Transfer or card sir?" The cashier asked him.

Kane gulped hard, his heart racing with different expectations. Good!Bad!Good!Bad!

“Card.” He said and fished out the card.

The cashier gasped with surprise flashing in her eyes as the sleek card caught her eyes.

Kane heard Mira whispered behind him in surprise too. "Black card!” She wasn't expecting it and her stance shifted. She took a step forward and focused on Kane more than earlier.

Kane's heart was racing as the transaction was going on. Each tap on the payment machine screen made his heart skip beats.

The cashier looked up from the smart payment machine and a polite smile spread on her face.

“Transaction successful.” She announced smoothly.

A deep feeling relief washed over Kane. His chest dropped, relaxed.

Mira was surprised. She changed her mind and a new thought– Maybe Kane is one of those wealthy guys who don't like to show off.

Mira packed the Necklace in a customized box and gave it to him.

“Thank you for chosing Primax sir. We'll be expecting you another time.” She smiled at him genuinely.

Kane nodded and said. "Thanks.” With that, he walked out of Primax.

On his way home, he couldn't stop basking in the glee of the new change. It felt surreal. He could afford a $500, 000 Worth necklace now without even blinking.

And the $100 million dollars is real! He couldn't wait to tell Juliana this miraculous news.

Just before getting to his apartment – where he lives with his wife, he noticed a familiar car at the nearest parking lot but at that moment of happiness, he didn't give it a second though.

He held the box carefully and ascended the mini-staircase leading to the threshold.

He took a deep breath, a wide smile spread all over his face. He pushed the door open and gently closed it behind. He advanced towards their bedroom quietly.

Getting to the door, he froze. “What was that?” He muttered, his mind reeling.

Coming from the direction of the bedroom, behind the closed door is Juliana's voice but it sounded strange.

“Ahh..Oh..oh my God..you're too good Badmus. Kill me baby...hurt me with your Rod.”

Kane's heart skipped a beat. Is Juliana telling someone to kill her? Scoffs.

The quietness was heavy.

He pushed the door open. It squeaked faintly and what he saw inside made him froze.
