CHAPTER ONE

“Ruby…” Zane called out into the dark, windy snow. “Please, open the door. It’s freezing out here. I can’t bear this cold anymore…” He cried out, but there was no response.

“Mom! Edgar! Open the door and undo the chain, please! I’ll listen to you now—I won’t make a fuss about the supplies, I promise…” Zane’s voice was breaking as he struggled to speak.

“Oh? Too late for you to beg now.” Madelyn—Zane’s adopted mother, appeared behind the glass door with a vicious expression. Beside her stood Edgar, her son… and in his arms was Zane’s fiancée, Ruby.

Zane’s pupils constricted as he struggled against the chains binding his hands. “Ruby! What are you doing in Edgar’s arms? Move away from him and help me, please! I’m going to die…”

His voice was already fading. Ruby laughed.

“Move away? You must be crazy, Zane. Edgar and I are a thing. We’ve been dating unrestricted for three years now. You just didn't notice, did you?”

Zane trembled violently in the snow. His lips parted, but no sound came out. He was dying. “How could you…”

Three years ago… that was the beginning of the apocalypse. The time when he left every day, risking his life to scavenge for food and supplies. And while he was gone… She was with Edgar.

“Why… why betray me?” he cried, tears freezing as they slid down his face. Zane clutched the chain tied to the peach blossom tree with his calloused, frostbitten hands, trying to break free—but it was useless.

“Oh please, Zane,” Ruby sneered. “Did you really think I liked you? If not for Edgar asking me to give you some cheap, fake love, I never would have bothered. Consider it entertainment.”

Edgar laughed, pulling Ruby closer. He kissed her passionately, then looked straight at Zane. “You’ve always been too disobedient. And you don't know how to love and care for your fiancée. Ruby is mine—so don’t get depressed thinking about us, okay?”

He smirked and led Ruby back inside. Madelyn stared at Zane coldly. She pushed open the door and stepped into the icy snow, her thick winter boots crunching loudly as she approached. Her military-grade coat kept her warm. She crouched down and deliberately stepped on his frostbitten feet. A painful groan tore from his throat.

“Listen carefully and be a good son, alright?” she said calmly. “If you survive this punishment, you must never cross Edgar again.” She pressed down harder. “Your only duty is to scavenge supplies for us. Don’t be greedy. Edgar is your younger cousin—he’s frail and needs them more than you. A little sacrifice won’t hurt… right?” She smiled cruelly before stepping away.

“I… understand…” Zane whispered, unable to endure the cold any longer. His face was pale as paper, his lips cracked from the freezing air. “M-Mother… please… let me inside… I’ll scavenge more for you… I will…”

But Madelyn had already turned away. “Don't call me mother, I am not your mother.”

The door slammed shut. The curtains were drawn. Zane coughed uncontrollably as despair consumed him. His family had lied to him. His fiancée had betrayed him. Every hardship he endured replayed in his mind.

 If only he had known…

If only he could turn back time…

If only he could rewrite everything…

“This foolish boy! Must you compete with Edgar for everything?! That necklace must be in his name.”

Zane gasped. He shot upright, his eyes wide as he looked around the room. Warmth. Wait… Wasn’t he dead? How… was he still alive? Zane hurriedly reached into his pocket and pulled out his old button phone. His fingers trembled as he checked the date. 11th August, 2026. His eyes widened. It was real. He had truly been reborn—twenty days before the apocalypse. A slow smile spread across his face. This time… he would change everything.

“I’m talking to you, and you have the guts to laugh?!” Madelyn’s shrill voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

Zane looked up at them calmly. “I will be the one to sign ownership of the Dreamshade Ocean for the auctioning. You don’t mind, right?” Edgar said, a wolfish smile spreading across his face.

Zane scoffed inwardly. In his previous life, he had agreed. He had handed over ownership of his mother’s heirloom—the Dreamshade Ocean necklace, believing it was for a good cause. But during the auction, it was sold for a staggering five hundred million dollars… And he received nothing. Not even a dime. This time— Things would be different. He needed money. A lot of it to get, supplies, food, shelter—everything required to survive the coming apocalypse. And this necklace… Was the perfect starting point. As for sentimental value? In a world where humanity would freeze to death… Such things meant nothing.

“No,” Zane said firmly. “I refuse.”

 The room fell silent.

“Why should I hand over the last thing my mother left me?” he continued coldly. “Would you do the same if you were me?”

“You—!” Madelyn trembled with rage, her face twisting.

“You should hand it over while I’m still being polite,” Edgar said darkly. “Don’t come crying when I decide to use force to take it.”

Zane sneered. In his last life, he had only realized near his death that Edgar was nothing more than a bluffing coward. “Go ahead,” Zane replied indifferently. “Use violence if you want. But this necklace will never be in your name.”

“You rebellious brat!” Madelyn snapped. “How dare you refuse your brother? It’s not like you can make any use of it! Just hand it over and stop being difficult. I hate having to punish you for your disobedience!”

She raised her hand to slap him—But before it could land, Zane grabbed her wrist mid-air. Then he shoved her aside without hesitation. Edgar quickly caught her before she fell. Last life… This blind obedience had killed him. Not again.

“You don’t hate punishing me,” Zane said coldly. “You enjoy it. So, stop pretending to be a heartbroken mother forced to discipline her son.” Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked toward the door.

“You'll never be able to afford to auction that necklace. The highest you'll get is for some change at a pawn house. Bring it and you'll get some percentage after the sale.” Madelyn still tried to convince him. Zane scoffed. He twisted the knob, then paused and glanced back.

“I’ll be twenty-two in a week,” he said calmly. “According to my father’s will, I’ll officially take over all my family’s assets.” A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Instead of worrying about dreamshade ocean, I hope you’re ready… to move out—and return everything that belongs to me.” Madelyn’s face went pale. Her body trembled before she staggered backward and collapsed onto the couch.

Zane didn’t bother looking twice. He stepped out. In his previous life, he had been tricked into signing everything away—his inheritance, his assets… even the Dreamshade Ocean necklace. But this time… They would pay.

CHAPTER TEN Edgar’s voice was still ringing beside her, but it grated against her ears. She didn’t even turn to look at him. Her expression shifted subtly, the faintest hint of disdain surfacing. Compared to Zane now, Edgar looked exactly like what he was—loud, crude, and completely insignificant. She had only entertained him because Zane had seemed useless before. Now… that thought alone felt laughable. With a small, almost careless motion, she pushed Edgar aside. He stumbled slightly, caught off guard, his voice cutting off mid-sentence as confusion replaced his anger. “Ruby…?” But she was already moving. Her steps were quick, and decisive, and her focus locked entirely on Zane as she closed the distance between them without hesitation. By the time anyone reacted, she was already beside him, her hands slipping naturally around his arm, holding onto him as if it was the most normal thing in the world. “Zane…” her voice softened instantly, smooth and warm, carrying a familiarity t

CHAPTER NINE That only made things worse. Tristan’s face twisted with rage as he slowly pushed himself up. “You…” his voice trembled with fury. “You think you’ve won?” Zane didn't respond. That silence pushed him over the edge. “You shouldn’t have survived!” Tristan suddenly roared. “You should have died with them back then!” The room fell into a deadly silence. Even Madelyn froze. Zane’s expression barely changed. But his eyes turned cold. He stepped closer. “…Say that again,” he said quietly. “You should have died,” Tristan continued, his voice rising with uncontrollable rage. “All of this nonsense wouldn’t be happening if you had died with them back then! That company is mine—and it will not be sold at any cost!” Zane’s expression darkened. “…Yours?” he repeated. His brows furrowed as he stared straight at Tristan. “Why are you so desperate to keep it?” Zane asked slowly. That single question seemed to hit something. Tristan’s face stiffened. Before he could respond— “…Because

CHAPTER EIGHT “Go against you?” Zane stared straight into her eyes. Madelyn instinctively shivered. “Where I get my money is none of your business,” he said coldly. “Why don’t you stay in your lane and enjoy whatever little peace you have left… before I decide how to deal with you?” His voice dropped slightly. “And who gave you permission to rummage through my things? He began descending the stairs slowly. Madelyn couldn’t believe her ears. Zane… questioning her? Deal with her? In all the years he had lived under this roof, he had never once spoken to her like this. Not once. Her heart pounded violently as she struggled to steady herself. This morning’s threat still lingered in her mind. How did he know about her affair with Marcus? Does he really have evidence against her? Her fingers curled unconsciously. After he left earlier, she had gone straight to his room, searching carefully, and thoroughly, but found nothing except the document for that abandoned property. Still… The unea

CHAPTER SEVEN Zane sat across from her, his fingers tapping the table once before going still. “The bunker…” he began, “…has already been built.” Trigger’s brows lifted slightly. “It was constructed by your company,” Zane continued, “about twenty years ago. That got her full attention. “Oh?” She leaned back, interest piqued. Zane didn’t pause. “I’ve seen the structure. It’s old, but the foundation is still solid. What I need isn’t a new bunker…” His brows furrowed slightly. “I want it restructured. Reinforced. Upgraded to the highest possible standard.” A small smile appeared on Trigger’s face. “Go on.” Zane leaned forward. “I want full environmental insulation. Materials that can withstand extreme climate changes. Internal temperature regulation—constant, unaffected by external conditions. Even if the outside drops to extreme levels…” He paused briefly. “…it shouldn’t affect the inside.” Trigger’s lips curved again. She already understood where this was going. Zane continued, “Th

CHAPTER SIX Zane stepped out of Eden High Vegetable Farm Market, the noise behind him slowly fading as he moved toward the roadside. Not far ahead—he saw Alina. She stood beside a small delivery cart, checking through a list while a few workers loaded crates behind her. Zane’s gaze shifted. Margaret was there too. The restaurant owner stood with her arms folded, watching the loading process like a hawk. Alina looked up first—and froze. “…Zane?” Her eyes moved past him… then widened slightly as she noticed the scale of what had just been purchased. An entire stall deliveries being arranged. “You…” she stepped closer, brows knitting together, “you already told me to stock up yesterday.” Her voice lowered. “Don’t tell me all this is yours?” Zane gave a small nod. “Yes.” Alina stared at him, clearly trying to process it. “…You’re serious,” she murmured. Margaret turned at that moment. “Who are you talking to—" She paused when she saw Zane. “Oh?” A smile spread across her face. “If

CHAPTER FIVEZane pushed the door open and stepped into the living room. The first thing he saw was Ruby, curled up beside Edgar on the sofa, her hand resting lightly on his chest. Edgar leaned back comfortably, one arm around her shoulders. They didn’t even bother to separate. Zane clicked his tongue lightly. So, they weren’t even hiding it anymore. Ruby glanced at him and smiled, indifferent… almost mocking, as if to say he no longer mattered.Zane didn’t react. He walked in slowly and stopped a few steps away. “Transfer the money.” Straight to the point. Madelyn, seated across from them, remained calm. She crossed her legs, not even surprised. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”Zane’s gaze locked onto her. “You interfered with the auction.”“Oh?” she raised a brow. “So, you actually registered for the auction? The fee is ten thousand dollars. I didn’t know you could afford that.”“Drop the act,” Zane said coldly. “Send me my money.”Madelyn sighed. “Zane, you really should s
