Chapter 4: Right Before my Eyes Part - I

Opening my eyes, there was nothing but darkness and serene silence. I tried to move around but it seemed like my body wasn't in any plan to listen to me. I tried to lift my arm up but all was in vain as my eyes kept staring into the dark.

Though, I could still hear that voice. It felt much closer than it was before and I could make it out into the voice of a woman. A soft and gentle voice, which somehow gave me this warm feeling of comfort.

Suddenly, a creaking noise of the door opening ringed in my ear as I sat up to stare at the narrow slit of light coming through the half-opened door. The handle seemed to tilt as if the other person on the other side was still holding it right in that position.

A strange feeling washed over my body as a woman emerged from the other side of the door. From her silhouette in the dark, I could make out a petite figure. It was dark in the room till she snapped her fingers and flames sparked between them.

This woman before me had mana surging through her body. I had no idea if she was hostile or friendly, but my body felt very calm and relaxed for some reason. I couldn't make sense of anything that was happening at that moment.

She snapped her fingers again before breaking into a giggle. She stepped back a few steps and with a flick of a switch, suddenly the room illuminated in bright halogen light. Now that there was ample illumination, I could finally see this woman clearly.

She had a faint smile on her pale face as she walked toward me. Her sapphire eyes were sinking into me as I remained frozen there. I couldn't sense even the slightest bit of hostility from her when she advanced her skinny arms to touch my face.

She looked way too weak to do any damage. Her pale skin and the frail body were enough to tell me that woman wasn't the healthiest around. Her jet black hair was shining off some of the light of them as it looked to be combed perfectly with oil.

She was wearing a white dress which was held against her waist with a blue belt which seemed to compliment the embroidery at the edge of her skirt. She kept looking at me with a smile without saying anything while I admired her beauty.

I don't think my words could ever explain how beautiful that woman was.

Without any prior movement, I found myself holding the pinky finger of that woman and walking along a busy sidewalk. There were several people walking past us and the chatter of the crowd was loud enough to deaf me.

But as the crowd got denser, her grip on my hand got firmer as well. I could tell she had no plans of letting go of my tiny hand. We kept walking on this never-ending sidewalk and somehow it felt like only we were moving and the world around me was frozen in time.

A sweet smell struck my nose, as I looked around and found myself surrounded by a field of flowers. Bright colours and the warm radiance of the sunlight as the flowers were dancing with the gust of wind.

I looked around but couldn't find the woman anywhere. Panicking, I started wandering cluelessly to wherever my eyes would see and my legs could take me. But it was completely uncalled for that I fell down and scraped my knee.

Hearing the sound of my cries, I noticed the woman suddenly walk from beside me with a concerned look in her eyes. She rushed down and started examining my leg while I could help but stare at the white flower which was resting on the side of her braids.

Who is this woman? Why does she feel familiar despite being a complete stranger?

She cradled my hair gently, as her index finger wiped the tears from my eyes. She poured water over the wound and covered it with a damped piece of cloth she had. All the while looking at me with that same faint smile plastered on her face.

I could feel a warm feeling wash over me every time this woman would touch me.

Who is she?

And what is happening to me?

"Does it hurt?" She held my hand and stood up slowly as I replied in an overly excited voice, "Not that much… I can walk!"

This is the voice which was calling me when I was unconscious. It was the first time I heard her voice properly since we met. She was either giggling or most of the time, her voice sounded very distant to me.

Her eyes tilted in relief, as she let out a chuckle and patted my head, "Very good… you're such a strong boy."

Suddenly, everything around me froze in time as my legs felt like they were sinking into the ground. A heavy gut-wrenching felt like my organs were trying to burst out of my body through my mouth. Everything in front of my eyes suddenly got blurred with a bright light as I lost sight of that woman.

Something felt terribly wrong at that moment. The face of that woman was still imprinted freshly on my mind but somehow there was a feeling in my heart. A hunch that I would never see those calm blue eyes staring at me with that soft smile.

But I couldn't do anything except stand like a rock while it felt like my body was moving through deep water. Coldness brushed past my scorching skin waiting to burst open at any moment from the intense pressure underneath.

A blood-curdling scream along with a heavy jerk brought me back to reality. My heart started throbbing as I could literally feel pain in my cardiac muscles. Cold sweat formed on my forehead, I tried looking around as my vision was slowly adjusting to the environment.

As my eyes set in and I realised what was in front of my eyes, I could help but feel sick to my stomach. Suddenly all the strength in my legs gave out as I couldn't even move forward a step. Grabbing my chest in pain, howls of sorrow and anger left my soul.
