“Mother” Stella cried out angrily as she steps down the wide staircase to the huge Withman hall. “I am not sure of Ethan no longer. Jace loosened his tie as Reynolds gathered the files from the huge mahogany table. The board meeting had went on for hours. The Montgomery penthouse smelled of wilted roses and dried flowers. Stella Whitman stood beside the tall windows, her reflection, flawless under the full moon. “you are postponing?” Her voice icy and dripping with disapproval. “Our wedding is in three weeks, Ethan. The invitations have all been sent. The cathedral is booked. Jace watched through the high windows as the uniformed man handed Reynolds a cream colored envelope sealed with candle wax. “It’s the Foster crest.” Reynolds observed, turning the envelope around his fingers. The wax bore the family’s cheetah emblem—an animal frozen middle of its bounce. Jace slit it open with his grandfather’s pocket knife.
