"Or what?" Reynolds challenged, his eyes meeting Pervis's with manic intensity. "Or you'll hurt me? Destroy my career? Too late! You already did that! I have nothing left to lose!"

"Alicia," Pervis said softly, ignoring Reynolds entirely, speaking only to her. "It's going to be okay. I promise. Just stay calm."

But as Pervis took another step forward, Reynolds pressed the scalpel harder, drawing more blood. Alicia couldn't suppress a small cry of pain as the blade bit deeper into her skin.

"STAND BACK!" Reynolds screamed. "I'm a doctor! I know exactly where to cut! I know how to make it quick, how to make it silent, how to sever the right vessels so she bleeds out in seconds! Don't test me!"

Everyone froze again. Blood was trickling down Alicia's neck now, staining her collar, proof that Reynolds wasn't bluffing about his willingness to hurt her.

Alicia, feeling the warm blood on her skin, forced herself to take a slow breath. She couldn't panic. Panicking would make Reynolds panic, a

Vanessa reached over and took his hand, holding it tightly. "He knows now. Aria told him the truth—that we never abandoned him, that we've been searching for him all these years. He knows we wanted him, William. He knows.""But does he believe it?" William asked, looking at his wife with anguished eyes. "After twenty-five years of thinking otherwise? After being raised by someone else, building a life without us? Can he really accept that we're his parents? That we love him?""I don't know," Vanessa admitted, her own eyes filling with tears. "I hope so. But I won't blame him if he can't. If he's too angry, too hurt, too damaged by what happened to—""Don't," William said sharply. "Don't say he's damaged. Our son is strong. Resilient. Look at what Aria's told us about him—working hard, helping others, earning respect through character rather than connections. That's not a damaged person. That's someone who survived and thrived despite everything."Vanessa nodded, wiping at her tears. "

As they left the emergency department and made their way back toward Mrs. Brennan's room, they fell into easier conversation—discussing work, sharing stories about difficult customers and annoying coworkers, talking about everyday life in ways that felt normal and comfortable after the trauma of the evening. When they reached Mrs. Brennan's room, Alicia paused at the door. "Pervis, I—thank you. For everything. For my mother, for tonight, for just being you.""You're welcome," Pervis said, feeling that familiar awkwardness returning. Before he could react, Alicia rose up on her tiptoes and pressed a soft, quick kiss to his cheek. Just like before, outside the hospital last night—a gentle touch of lips against skin that lasted barely a second but felt like it contained entire conversations."Goodnight, Pervis," Alicia whispered, then turned and fled into her mother's room before he could respond.Pervis stood frozen in the corridor, one hand rising automatically to touch the spot where

Alicia's face turned a deep shade of pink at Grace's obvious matchmaking attempt, and she quickly turned away to hide her expression. Pervis simply rolled his eyes at Grace's antics, though his own face was also noticeably flushed.Dawn, watching this entire exchange from her seat beside Mrs. Brennan, raised her eyebrows with obvious interest but wisely kept her commentary to herself. She'd tease Alicia about this later, in private, when there weren't powerful corporate executives around to witness it."Come on," Pervis said to Alicia, his voice slightly strained. "Let's get your neck looked at properly.""Right. Medical attention. Yes," Alicia agreed quickly, grateful for the excuse to escape Grace's knowing looks. They left the room together, walking close but not quite touching, very aware of the awkwardness between them but neither willing to address it directly.Once Pervis and Alicia had disappeared down the corridor, the three Coleman sisters also prepared to leave Mrs. Brennan

Inside, Mrs. Brennan was sitting up in bed looking healthier than she had in months—the excellent care at Mercy Heights was already showing results. Dawn was sitting in the chair beside her, and both women's faces lit up when Alicia entered."Alicia!" Mrs. Brennan exclaimed, then her expression shifted to concern as she took in her daughter's appearance—the pallor, the gauze on her neck, the slight trembling. "Honey, what happened? Are you okay?""I'm fine, Mom," Alicia assured her quickly. "Just a... a minor accident. Nothing to worry about.""That doesn't look minor," Dawn said, standing up and moving closer to examine her cousin's neck. "Alicia, is that blood? What happened?""It's handled," Alicia said, not wanting to worry them with the full story. "Really. I'm okay. And I have good news—the best news."She gestured to the three women who'd followed her into the room. "Mom, Dawn, these are the Coleman sisters. They're the reason you're here at Mercy Heights. They're the ones who

Commissioner Mitchell stood before Aria Coleman, his hands clasped almost in supplication, his expression showing genuine contrition mixed with obvious anxiety about maintaining his political position and relationship with one of the region's most powerful families."Ms. Coleman," Mitchell said again, his voice earnest. "I truly cannot apologize enough for the chaos Dr. Reynolds caused while invoking my office. The disrespect to you and your sisters, the threat to your safety—it's unconscionable. Please know that I—""Commissioner," Grace interrupted smoothly, stepping forward with a slight smile. "With all due respect, you're apologizing to the wrong people."Mitchell paused, confused. "I'm sorry?""My sisters and I weren't the ones with a scalpel pressed to our throats," Grace said, gesturing toward Alicia, who was still standing very close to Pervis, one hand pressed to the gauze a paramedic had placed over her neck wound. "We weren't the ones bleeding on your hospital floor. We we

His voice broke. "I just wanted to matter. To be important. To have power for once instead of always serving people who looked down on me.""So you became exactly what you hated," Cristina said. "Someone who uses power to hurt people weaker than themselves. You became the very thing you despised."Pervis was in position now. Just one more moment—one more second of distraction."Dr. Reynolds," Pervis said quietly, his voice calm and steady. "Look at me."Reynolds's eyes snapped to Pervis, the scalpel still pressed to Alicia's neck. "What? What do you want, household manager? Come to gloat about how the mighty have fallen?""No," Pervis said. "I came to tell you something important. Something you need to understand before this ends.""What?" Reynolds demanded, his attention fully focused on Pervis now, the scalpel's pressure on Alicia's neck loosening slightly as his concentration shifted."I forgive you," Pervis said simply.Reynolds blinked, confused. "What?""I forgive you," Pervis r
