“Mr. Ramirez, welcome. Please, come in.”
Cayden stepped through the door, his clothes still damp from the rain. His hair clung to his forehead, and dark circles sat under his eyes. He sat down slowly, gripping the edge of the chair as though to steady himself. The lawyer even look at him with pity, yet shocked, maybe because his grandfather is so rich that he didn't expect Cayden to look like this. “You said yesterday that my grandfather passed away,” Cayden said in a hoarse voice. “And that he… left everything to me. I need to hear it again, face-to-face.” Attorney Lopez folded his hands on the desk. “Yes, Mr. Ramirez. Your grandfather, Mr. Zayn Ramirez, passed away early yesterday morning. His will was read, and you are the designated heir. This is not speculation, it is a fact.” Cayden’s hands clenched on his lap. “I don’t understand. He never told me. Why keep something like this hidden?” “Your grandfather had his reasons,” Lopez explained. “He believed that if you knew too soon, you might rely on wealth instead of building resilience. He valued strength forged through hardship. That is why he never revealed your position until now.” Cayden looked down at his soaked shoes. His voice cracked. “All this time… they called me useless. They mocked me. Even Isabella turned her face away. And yet… I was the heir to everything?” Lopez pulled a folder from the desk drawer and laid it open. Inside were several documents stamped and signed. “These are the legal records. This is the official will. Here are the property deeds, the company registrations, the accounts. Each bears your name as the sole successor.” Cayden leaned forward, staring at the papers. His eyes moved slowly across the lines. “This company… this estate… all of this belongs to me now?” “Yes,” Lopez said firmly. “You are now the head of the Ramirez holdings. Your grandfather left you everything, businesses, land, assets both domestic and international. It is all legally yours.” He can't believe all of this, yesterday is full of heaviness of pain, yet now, it seems like the world want to give him everything he's lack of. Cayden’s throat tightened. His fingers brushed against the paper, then pulled back as if he was afraid it might vanish. “Why me? He had other options. Why put this on me?” Lopez adjusted his glasses. “Because you were the only one he trusted. He believed you would not squander what he built. He believed you could lead with patience, not arrogance. In his eyes, you were the true Ramirez heir.” Cayden closed his eyes, his chest rising and falling heavily. Memories rushed through him: years of humiliation at family dinners, the sound of laughter as relatives mocked him, Isabella whispering that she had married a useless man. “I thought I was nothing,” he muttered. “All these years, I believed their words.” “You were tested,” Lopez said calmly. “And you endured. That was his measure of you.” Cayden lifted his head, staring at the lawyer. “So what happens now? What am I supposed to do with all of this?” “You must decide whether to accept,” Lopez replied. “This inheritance is vast. It will change your life completely. But it also comes with responsibility. Hundreds of employees, partners, and families depend on the Ramirez empire. It will require strength and clarity.” Cayden’s hands trembled. “I don’t know if I’m ready. Yesterday, I was begging my wife not to leave me. Today, you’re telling me I own an empire.” “Life changes in moments,” Lopez said. “Your grandfather knew this day would come. The only question is whether you will embrace it.” Silence settled between them for a long while. The ticking of the clock on the wall filled the office. Cayden’s mind swirled with disbelief, and grief. “Show me everything,” he said finally. Lopez nodded. He opened another file and spread the contents across the desk. “This is a list of the properties. Several estates, including the Ramirez villa, commercial buildings, and international holdings.” He flipped another page. “Here are the financial statements. As of the last quarter, the net value of the Ramirez assets is beyond billions.” Cayden’s breath caught. His eyes widened as he scanned the figures. “This… this can’t be real.” “It is real,” Lopez assured. “And it belongs to you.” Cayden leaned back, pressing a hand to his forehead. “I spent years as the errand boy son-in-law. They laughed while I stood in grocery lines. They sneered as I carried their bags. I thought I had nothing. And now… this?” Lopez watched him calmly. “That is why your grandfather kept it hidden. He wanted you to understand both power and humility. Few men could survive what you endured. He believed you were capable.” Cayden lowered his hand and looked at the lawyer with unsteady eyes. “So you’re saying… everything I thought about myself was a lie?” “Not a lie,” Lopez corrected. “A hidden truth. One that has finally come to light.” Cayden gripped the edge of the desk. His knuckles whitened. “If I take this, I won’t be the man they mocked anymore.” “No,” Lopez agreed. “You will be the man they underestimated. And now you will hold everything they once denied you.” Cayden’s pulse quickened. His heart thudded in his chest. He thought of Isabella’s cold expression as she signed the papers, Antonio’s smug smile, his in-laws’ laughter. The image burned in his mind. He whispered, almost to himself, “They’ll see. One day, they’ll see who I really am.” Lopez studied him. “Mr. Ramirez, the decision is yours. Do you wish to step into this role, to claim what is rightfully yours, and begin the life your grandfather prepared for you?” Cayden swallowed hard. His chest tightened, but his gaze steadied. He had been crushed, humiliated, discarded. Yet now, he was given an armor he can use to make them all pay. He looked straight at the lawyer. “Tell me what I need to do.”

“Diego.” “You finally picked up.” Diego’s voice came warm through the line. “Where are you calling from? It sounds like the city is awake behind you.” “In the office. Late,” Cayden answered. “I just finished a meeting. I needed to hear a voice I trust.” “You know I am always here.” Diego’s tone went soft for a second. “Tell me straight. How are you, really?” “I am fine,” Cayden said. “Busy. Focused.” “Fine doesn’t mean nothing is wrong,” Diego pushed. “You and I spent years abroad. We worked on the pieces of your life. We built this. You can tell me if there is one corner you still avoid.” There was a pause. Cayden breathed out. “Isabella came to the forum today,” he said finally. “She defended me.” “I saw the footage,” Diego said. “I saw her defend you in front of everyone. Your ex in-laws must have hated that.” “They did,” Cayden said. “They called me other names. They tried to humiliate me again last week.” “Then why are you telling me this now?” Diego asked. “Do you still
Chapter 28: The Unexpected Defense
“Cayden, how exactly did you acquire such control in just a few years?” Zhao asked, voice dripping with disbelief. “It seems… convenient, don’t you think?” A few other executives snickered, glancing toward the audience to see who might support their insinuation. All eyes subtly shifted to Isabella, seated among her family’s associates. “She’s going to side with them,” one murmured under their breath. “She always did.” Cayden’s jaw tightened, but he maintained a calm exterior, folding his hands over the podium. “I built my path through hard work, calculated decisions, and strategic partnerships,” he said evenly, holding the attention of the room. Victor smirked, leaning forward. “Hard work? Or luck? Or perhaps… someone’s family backing you?” Cayden smirked, Mortaine's mistakes from the past seem repeating now. Whispers rippled through the forum. Every eye in the room seemed to glance at Isabella. A few executives nudged her, encouraging her to speak up, expecting her to public
Chapter 27: The Secret Alliance
“Enough of that begging,” Don Ricardo said, voice hard in the dim study. “I will not crawl to that arrogant Cayden again. Not after what he did to us.” “We had no choice,” his wife murmured, eyes rimmed red. “Cayden humiliated us. He humiliated our name. But, we needed him. We had to kneel.” “Kneel?” Marco spat, leaning forward. “We’re Mortaine! We don’t kneel. We retaliate. We break him.” “You tried,” Don Ricardo snapped. “You failed. You got nothing but public shame for your trouble.” “Because I acted alone,” Marco replied, jaw tight. “If I had true backing, if I had someone with the power to move pieces quietly, it would be different.” A new voice, smooth and low, made them all look up. “Power can be bought. Loyalties can be shifted. Men like Cayden rely on images. Image is fragile.” They turned. Mr. Zhao stood in the doorway, hands folded, a calm smile on his face. He carried no papers, but confidence only, despite the fact that Cayden also humiliated him before. “Who invi
Chapter 26: The Ex-Wife’s Plea
“Cayden… please, can we talk?” The voice trembled. It's soft yet urgent, cutting through the quiet of the office. Cayden didn’t look up. His pen moved across the papers with steady precision. “I’m busy.” “Busy?” Isabella's voice cracked. “You always find time for everything else… but not for me?” “I said I’m busy,” Cayden repeated, his tone is flat, leaving no room for argument. Isabella took a step closer, her hands clasped tightly. “I… I need to explain. I made mistakes. I—” “You need to explain? Again?” Cayden’s voice was sharper now, and he finally lifted his gaze. “You made your choice. You abandoned me. What is there left to explain?” “I…” Her throat tightened. “I didn’t know… I thought—” “Thought what?” Cayden asked coldly. “That I would wait forever? That I would beg and never move on?” “I never meant to hurt you!” Isabella’s hands shook, tears slipping down her cheeks. “I… I loved you. I thought I was doing the right thing, following my family…” She's feeling ho
Chapter 25: You've Already Lost
“Cayden!” His voice was loud in the lobby, making people turn to look. Cayden lifted his gaze from the folder in his hand, it doesn't even make him flinched a bit, as Mr. Villarreal stormed forward. His suit looked neat under the lights, and his shoes made a steady sound as he walked. There was something in the way he moved that felt full of pride. “You’re really here,” Villarreal sneered, sounding harsh and mocking. “I almost didn’t recognize you without your cheap rags. But then again, some things never change. A beggar will always be a beggar.” The words came out sharp, his smirk making them sting even more. A few people nearby glanced over, sensing the upcoming tension between them. “Mr. Villarreal.” Cayden didn’t flinch at all, standing firm as if the insult hadn’t touched him. His face stayed calm, almost too calm. Villarreal barked a laugh, making sure the gathering businessmen and socialites nearby could hear. “Don’t ‘Mr.’ me as if we’re equals. You? You’re the man who u
Chapter 24: I Bury Them
“Mr. X, your… your ex-father-in-law is here.” “My what?” Cayde’s pen froze mid-signature. His sharp tone made the secretary’s shoulders lock. “He… he insisted, sir. He said he’s your father-in-law.” Cayden leaned back in his chair, he gave a crooked, mocking smirk “Father-in-law? That old man. I didn’t know corpses could walk through my doors.” The secretary opened her mouth to respond, but the door banged open. Ricardo Mortaine marched in with forced bravado, his once-polished shoes scuffed, and his suit trying too hard to look respectable. “Cayden, my son-in-law!” Ricardo boomed, stretching his arms wide, and when he heard his voice and saw his bright face, he really thought that Mortaine's really getting crazy because of what's happening to them. Cayden’s face hardened. “You’ve got some nerve. I told you clearly that any of your family must not show their face to me unless I told you so." “Son-in-law, I came to talk,” Ricardo insisted quickly, his voice slick with urgency.
