Edward stared at Damon with confusion written all over his face. "What do you mean we can't go to the hospital yet? I'm dying from poison and you want me to stay here?"

"Yes," Damon said without hesitation. "Because if we move you now, Vanessa will know we're onto her. She'll destroy whatever evidence she has left and disappear before we can prosecute her properly."

Arthur stepped forward, his voice sharp with concern. "Mr. Damon, I understand what you're saying about building a case, but your father might not survive long enough for that plan to work. The poison has been accumulating in his system for days. His kidneys are failing."

"I know the risks," Damon replied. "But we're so close to having everything we need to put Vanessa away forever. If we rush now and she escapes justice, then my mother's death means nothing. All the suffering from the past twenty years means nothing."

Edward raised a shaking hand. "Let him finish explaining, I want to hear the full plan."
