Arthur was genuinely surprised by what Damon had just said. His voice came through the phone again, urgent and pleading."Mr. Damon, please don't say that again. Your father wouldn't like hearing those words, especially not in his condition right now—"But before Arthur could say anything more, Damon hung up the call and tossed the phone back onto the couch. He stared at it for a moment, his jaw tight with frustration. He knew Arthur meant well. The man had been loyal to the Sterling family for decades, and he was trying to do what he thought was right. But Arthur didn't understand. He couldn't understand the depth of pain and betrayal that still lived inside Damon after twenty years.Forgiving his father wasn't something that could happen just because Edward Sterling was dying. Death didn't erase the past. It didn't undo the damage that had been done.Damon ran his hand through his hair and let out a long breath, trying to calm himself. He was about to head upstairs to take a shower

They'd told Arthur privately that Edward only had about a five percent chance of surviving. He'd been brought to the hospital too late, the poison had built up and hurt him too much.Arthur sat in a chair beside the bed, his face tired but determined to stay by his boss's side.Edward turned his head slowly on the pillow to look at Arthur. "Be honest with me.""About what, sir?""Do you think I deserve to survive this?"Arthur didn't hesitate. "Of course you do."Edward shook his head weakly against the pillow. "No. I don't.""Sir—""It's because of me that Elora died." Edward's voice was filled with regret and pain. "If I hadn't been cheating with Vanessa back then, maybe nothing would have happene

But now that Tessa had brought it up, Serena found herself actually thinking about it for the first time. The pregnancy was three months along. That meant she was already pregnant before she divorced Damon. But at the same time, she and Michael had already been together secretly before the divorce happened. So that meant she didn't really know who the father was. It could be Damon's child or it could be Michael's child. She hadn't thought about it before because she'd just assumed it was Michael's.
