Everyone was in disbelief that someone as seemingly ordinary as Damon could actually help Celia secure a contract with Vespera Corporation.

Mrs. Greene stared at Celia with her mouth wide open. "What did you just say?"

"I said the contract went through," Celia repeated. "Thanks to Damon."

Nathaniel shook his head slowly. "That's impossible. There's no way he could have helped with something like that."

"But he did," Celia said firmly.

Mrs. Greene looked between Celia and Damon, her face showing complete confusion. "How? How could he possibly help with a major corporation like Vespera?"

Mr. Greene stepped forward, his voice quiet but amazed. "Celia, are you sure about this?"

"I'm absolutely sure, Dad. The contract is signed. The deal is done."

Nathaniel's face was red with anger and disbelief. "This doesn't make sense. He's unemployed! He has no connections! How could someone like him help with Vespera Corporation?"

"Someone like me?" Damon asked quietly.

"Yes! Someone with no job, no

"None of you know Damon like I do!"Mrs. Greene stared at her daughter. "What are you doing?""I'm defending my boyfriend!" Celia said firmly. "Because he's a good man and he doesn't deserve this!""Celia, please," Mr. Greene said quietly. "You need to listen to reason.""No! You need to listen to me!" Celia shot back. "Damon helped me get that contract! He really did! And instead of being grateful, all you can do is attack him!"Mrs. Greene shook her head in disbelief. "I can't believe what I'm hearing.""You can't believe it because you don't want to believe it!" Celia said, her voice getting louder. "You've already made up your minds about him!"Nathaniel steppe

Nathaniel's eyes lit up with satisfaction as he saw the doubt spreading across everyone's faces. This was his chance to expose what he believed was Damon's lie."You see?" Nathaniel said, his voice gaining confidence. "I told you something didn't add up."He stepped closer to Damon, a smug smile spreading across his face."I know Anthony Williams," Nathaniel announced. "My father's company has done business with Vespera Corporation for years."Mrs. Greene looked at him with interest. "Really?""Of course. I've met Anthony Williams at several business meetings and social events. We've had dinner together multiple times."Nathaniel's voice grew more arrogant as he continued."And I can tell you one thing for certain—I have never, not once, seen this man with Anthony Williams."He pointed directly at Damon."Never at any meeting, never at any dinner, never at any social gathering. If Damon really knew the CEO as well as he claims, I would have seen them together."Mrs. Greene nodded eage

Nathaniel's face twisted with rage as he stared at Damon and Celia holding hands. The sight of them together made his blood boil."You think you're so clever, don't you?" Nathaniel said, his voice dripping with anger. "Standing there acting like some kind of hero."Damon looked at him calmly, an almost playful smirk touching his lips. "Oh, I’m not acting—if anything, you’re the one putting on a show, acting like a jealous deadass."Nathaniel gasped sharply, his voice filled with fury,, "Oh, but you are," Nathaniel stepped closer, his eyes blazing. "You're acting like you deserve her. Like you can actually take care of a woman like Celia.""I never said I couldn't take care of her."Nathaniel laughed bitterly. "Please. We all know what you are. You're just another smooth-talking guy who sweet-talks women into taking care of him. A scammer living off whatever woman is stupid enough to fall for your act."Mrs. Greene nodded eagerly. "Yes! That's exactly what he is!"Damon's expression di

Celia looked straight at her mother, her voice steady despite the chaos around her. "Mom, I know exactly what you're doing."Mrs. Greene blinked, taken off guard. "What are you talking about?""You're trying to force me into a political marriage with Nathaniel," Celia said, her words cutting through the tension in the room. "This isn't about my happiness. This is about our family's money problems.""Celia, that's not true and you know it. If you married someone wealthy, of course, you'd be happier. I'm doing this to keep you from suffering anymore. Can't you see?""This will affect our entire family. We'll be left with nothing if you stay with this man.""So for your happiness—for all of our sakes—Nathaniel is the right choice. What you're saying isn't—""Yes, it is," Celia interrupted, her voice growing stronger. "You think that if I marry him, his family will help us out of debt. You want me to sacrifice my happiness just so you can save the business. This was never about my happine

I know he's not what this family needs right now."Celia felt tears building behind her eyes. Every time she thought things might change, her mother proved her wrong. The burden of family expectations pressed down on her shoulders, making it hard to breathe. Before she could respond, a calm voice spoke from inside the house."Martha, let them in. It's cold outside."Celia's father appeared behind her mother, his kind face a stark contrast to Mrs. Greene's hard expression. He looked tired, the lines around his eyes deeper than usual."Dad," Celia said, relief washing over her.Mr. Greene gave his daughter a small smile. "Come in, both of you."Mrs. Greene huffed but stepped aside, shooting daggers at Damon with her eyes.Celia led Damon into the small living room.
