It was then that the reality hit Kyle: he had been taken by Gerald.

There was no way out.

Gerald had locked him up, and he wasn't going to let him go.

“I’m afraid no one here made a call,” Gerald said smoothly from outside. “My men were just visiting, and we heard nothing unusual. Maybe it was a prank? Kids in the area have been doing that lately.”

The officer hesitated. “And you’re sure no one else is inside?”

“Positive,” Gerald answered. “Feel free to look around.”

Panic spiked in Kyle’s chest.

‘No. No, no—they’re right here. I’m here!’

He twisted hard in the cramped trunk, trying to slam his cast against the metal. His movements were limited; the space was too tight.

He kicked, but his sneaker only thudded softly against the lining.

He tried again and again.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

He screamed against the gag, but the words were muffled noises.

Kyle wanted to kick harder, scream louder, do anything, but the gag and the tight trunk swallowed every sound he made.

Outside, the police co

Persis paid close attention because she needed to understand what was happening to Tedmond. She needed clarity so she could research it further if necessary.Seeing how focused she was, the doctor paused and chose his words carefully.“Ms. Persis, the analysis confirms that Mr. Tedmond is not simply sedated. He is in a chemically induced coma.”Persis froze. The blood drained from her face, leaving her impossibly pale. The beeping of the monitor grew painfully loud, filling the room and her mind. Her thoughts raced back to the moment she had mentioned Kyle, which caused Tedmond to confront him. That decision led to the ambush and kidnapping, and the men had assumed Tedmond was involved, so they hadn’t intervened. Now he was lying here because of it.She turned slowly from the doctor to the unconscious man on the bed. Her eyes widened with dawning horror before snapping back to the physician.“Wait,” Persis whispered, her voice trembling. She backed into the armchair behind her.“A

Frank needed to know who this person was, and even though Harold was sitting across from him, his mind kept circling back to the same question. He kept wondering who Kyle had been with.No one came to mind, and even if Otis wanted to attack someone, he would not choose a person capable of taking down his entire family.Frank’s calm exterior hid the urgency building inside him. He needed the name, and he could not wait any longer.Harold took a slow sip of water before answering.“Frank, the identity of the third party is something you are not going to believe. It is the last person anyone would expect. I did not believe it myself until my contact sent the footage.”Frank did not move. His face, usually unreadable, twitched with impatience.“Enough theatrics, Harold. Show me. I need a name or at least a face.”Harold retrieved his phone, opened the encrypted file, and slid it across the table.A grainy security camera still appeared on the screen. Kyle was sprawled on the pavement, c

Frank knew the station. He knew the detectives, the captain, and the lieutenant. But for some reason, he didn’t understand. The men had been replaced overnight, and now none of them would listen to him. They didn’t flinch or budge when he spoke. It was more like they barely cared about what he had to say and would do whatever they wanted, even though he tried to stop them.In the past, any issue involving Otis, no matter how egregious, whether a simple assault, reckless driving, or even that incident last year that had been far worse than a misunderstanding, was always handled quietly. A hefty donation to the station's "community fund," a few well-placed phone calls, and the incident reports would vanish into thin air.He had personally overseen the cleanup of Otis’s numerous messes, smoothing over the details and protecting the family name. But today? They were citing subsections, quoting judges, and throwing around terms like "attempted murder." It was unnatural, and now he had n

“They are not listening, Frank! Did you hear him? They’re treating Otis like some common street criminal!” Richard hissed, struggling against Frank’s grip as he was hauled away from Detective Agyei’s desk and toward the exit. “We should have stayed there! We should have demanded to see the sergeant! They can’t just cite some obscure subsection. We’re the ones who hold the power!”Frank didn’t reply immediately. He dragged Richard into a small, relatively deserted waiting area near the main door and slammed him against a cold, tiled wall.“Stop. Yelling.” Frank’s voice was a low, dangerous growl, completely devoid of the smooth legal polish he had used moments before.Frank had only been able to cite those specific law terms because he had initially studied law but didn’t end up finishing, having switched to pursue business instead. Law school had been his father’s dream, and immediately after his father died, Frank had changed course. When Richard tried to protest again, Frank didn'

The three men straightened up, breathing hard but grinning widely, the sight of their handiwork filling them with smug satisfaction. They knew the guard wouldn’t press charges; it was just a few scratches in a crowded cell. They were used to this. The guards already knew not to put anyone else in the cell with them, as they would beat any newcomer. Now, one of the men looked at the guard suspiciously.“Sure thing, Officer,” the second man said, his voice slick with false respect. He nudged the thick-set man. “Let’s help the prince up. Can’t have him looking bad for his new neighbors, can we?”The three men seized Otis roughly, one grabbing him under the armpit, the other taking his wrist. They hauled his limp, aching body upward. Every touch sent a jolt of fresh agony through him.“Ahhh!” Otis finally let out a groan of pain.As they dragged him toward the door, they leaned in close, voices dripping with contempt.“Enjoy the walk, your majesty,” sneered the thick-set man.“Guess

Though he knew he was at a disadvantage, he wasn’t going to back down.Every breath hurt, and his body still felt fragile. He had only just been discharged from the hospital, still struggling to adjust to seeing with one eye, but there was no way he would let them hit him without fighting back.Backing down now would only make him an easy target later.Otis frowned, confusion threading through the pain.Nothing about him screamed “rich kid.” His clothes were plain, his hair unstyled, and he didn’t carry himself with any arrogance. He had no idea why they kept calling him that, especially when they were all stuck in the same miserable place. It made no sense, unless they needed a reason to pick on someone weaker than them.“Oh, you want to fight, little prince?” The first man, thick-set, with broad shoulders and smelling faintly of stale sweat, bellowed, his voice cutting through the small, oppressive space of the cell like a whip. His fist, aimed high, swung clumsily yet with bru
