In the elevator, Evan Calder opened the modest ring box.

A dazzling pink diamond caught the harsh light, scattering sparks across the cramped space. Its brilliance was impossible to ignore. The 7.5 million dollar luxury gem had once been hailed as the “King of Diamonds” of San Aurelia—truly one of a kind.

Evan didn’t know exactly how much was on the bank card beside it, but he was certain it could buy the Stevens family’s cooperation ten times over.

Moments ago, Madeline and Vivian hadn’t even glanced at these treasures, dismissing them as mere junk.

The elevator doors opened.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Evan Calder! You don’t look so good,” a mocking voice called.

Evan looked up calmly.

A man in a sharp tailored suit, hair slicked back perfectly, held a bouquet of blue roses. His grin was smug, practiced—Dante Riven, San Aurelia’s infamous trust fund heir and one of Madeline’s persistent admirers.

Evan stepped aside, hoping to bypass him.

But Dante moved, blocking his path with an exaggerated flourish.

Evan’s eyes hardened, cold as ice. “Do you need something? If not, please move.”

Dante’s grin widened, theatrical. “Oh, everyone—look! The Stevens girl’s little lapdog actually barked at me! Let me guess… the family finally kicked you to the curb, huh?”

He noticed the ring box in Evan’s hand.

“What’s this? Some cheap trinket? As if she’d ever want that!”

Before Evan could react, Dante slapped the box from his hand. It clattered to the floor.

The lid popped open.

A flawless pink diamond rolled out.

Dante froze. His jaw went slack.

“That… that can’t be…” he whispered.

Evan’s gaze was steady, calm, and unshaken.

Dante bent down, eyes wide, voice cracking. “Isn’t that… the infamous pink diamond from Montclair Jewelers? The one they call the King of Diamonds of San Aurelia?”

He stared at Evan, disbelief written across his face. “7.5 million dollars? How the hell did you get your hands on that?!”

The disturbance quickly drew attention.

Employees poured out of nearby offices. Pedestrians slowed, phones lifting instinctively. Eyes locked onto the open ring box—the pink diamond glittering on the floor like a living thing.

It was the fantasy of countless women in San Aurelia.

A price no ordinary man could ever afford.

Evan bent down calmly, picked up the box, and snapped it shut.

A cold glint flashed through his eyes.

With things truly over between him and Madeline, he no longer felt the slightest need to tolerate the parasites circling her world.

“Get him!” Dante Riven barked, pointing wildly. “Make him tell us where he got that diamond! A nobody like him has no right to even touch it!”

Before the bodyguards could move—

Smack.

Evan turned and struck.

The slap echoed through the lobby like a gunshot.

Dante staggered back and crashed to the ground, sprawling helplessly, shock frozen across his face. He stared up at Evan, disbelief etched into every line.

He couldn’t comprehend it.

This man—this former nobody had dared to touch him.

The two bodyguards froze for half a second, stunned by Evan’s speed and force.

Then they lunged.

Two movements.

Two sharp impacts.

They dropped where they stood, unconscious before they could even cry out.

Silence fell.

The crowd backed away instinctively, staring at Evan as though seeing him for the first time. The gentle man they thought they knew was gone—replaced by something colder, harder, untouchable.

Evan cast one last indifferent glance at Dante, who lay clutching his face, whimpering in shock.

Then he turned and walked away.

Moments later, hurried footsteps echoed down the hall.

“What happened?” Vivian shrieked as she rushed forward. “Dante! Who did this to you? Do they have a death wish?!”

Madeline followed closely behind, her expression tightening when she saw the scene.

Dante struggled upright, fury twisting his features. “It was that loser—Evan Calder!” he snarled. “I swear I’ll make him pay tenfold!”

Vivian’s face twisted with rage.

“So it was him?” she hissed. “Just because Madeline rejected him, he thinks he can lash out?” Her eyes burned with venom. “That useless piece of trash, don't worry. I won’t let him get away with this.”

Dante’s face lit up with false joy, forgetting the pain of his face.

“Madeline! Is it true? Have you really cut ties with that loser?” he repeated, his grin smug, eyes glinting with triumph.

Madeline’s expression remained icy. “My personal affairs are none of your concern,” she said coolly. “Tell me… why did Evan hit you? He’s not the type to start a fight without reason.”

Dante bared his teeth. “Who knows what was going through that lunatic’s head? But Madeline, you won’t believe what I saw.

That psycho—he stole the King of Diamonds from Montclair Jewelers—that 7.5 million pink diamond—just to impress you!”

Madeline froze.

“What?” Her voice barely rose above a whisper. “He stole… the ‘King of Diamonds’?”

The gem was legendary in San Aurelia’s high society. She had secretly dreamed of wearing it on her wedding day.

Dante leaned closer, eyes wide with excitement. “I saw it with my own eyes! Ask anyone here if you don’t believe me.

That guy’s got a death wish, pulling a stunt like this!”

Madeline’s brow furrowed. Skepticism crept into her features. “As far as I know, Evan might not be rich… but he’d never stoop to theft.”

Dante scoffed, venom dripping from every word. “Exactly because he’s poor, he had to steal it! Think about it, Madeline. How else could a nobody like him get his hands on that thing?”

Vivian, never missing a beat, chimed in sharply. “That’s right! It must be stolen!”

Inside, she kicked herself for returning the modest ring box earlier, not realizing it held one of the city’s most coveted gems.

Madeline called over a few employees to investigate the scene. Within moments, it became undeniable—Evan Calder did possess the King of Diamonds.

Her face darkened, fury simmering behind her flawless composure.

“This is absolutely ridiculous!” she snapped. “Evan, being poor isn’t shameful.

But trying to impress me through theft? That’s unforgivable!”

Her fingers moved with purpose as she pulled out her phone, ready to act.

Trying to play the knight in shining armor, huh?” another sneered, tightening his grip on a steel pipe.“Boss, why waste time talking? Let’s just take him out!” a third thug shouted, swinging the pipe toward Evan’s head with full force.Ms. Selene exhaled sharply, her mind racing. Honestly, it doesn’t look that impressive to me.”The deputy chief’s face went rigid. He wanted nothing more than to shake some sense into his foolish son. His voice hissed through clenched teeth:“You fool! Just shut up! Haven’t you embarrassed us enough already? That technique… it’s legendary. Ancient healers reclusive, almost mythical were said to manipulate life itself with a single touch. They could take life or save it, controlling the flow of a person’s energy as if it were their own.” Even Selene, sharp-minded and well-versed in medical knowledge herself, felt her composure crack. She had seen countless procedures, brilliant surgeons, and innovative techniques, yet she had never w
