Chapter 228.

In an apartment, somewhere in Jade City.

Lauretta was standing under the white light that was reaching from the ceiling, spraying its luminescence across the living room.

Her eyes were widely opened, as though they would pop out of her head. Her jaws were hanging loosely. She was having a hard time shutting the roof of her mouth.

Her legs quaked beneath her, and she almost fell away. She held the arm of a worn-out sofa that looked to have been used in the Second World War.

She leaned towards the chair until she was strong enough to sit at the edge.

Her eyelids kept flapping like the wings of a nervous bird. She started to shake her head slowly in denial. What she was staring at seemed to be an illusion.

She swiped one of her hands over her face a couple of times. Yet she wasn't convinced that she was in her right mind.

She pinched herself on the cheek and then winced in pain.

"I'm my right mind." She finally muttered a few words.
