Chapter Thirty Five

The sun dipped low in the sky as Alex approached Ava's grand mansion, its imposing façade casting long shadows across the perfectly manicured lawn. Each step felt heavier than the last, anticipation mingling with dread in the pit of his stomach.

"Should I ring the doorbell?" Alex muttered to himself, his voice wavering with uncertainty. "I guess I have to face her eventually."

Ava greeted him with a strained smile at the door, her usual poise faltering ever so slightly as she led him into the opulent foyer. The air seemed to crackle with tension, each moment stretching out like an eternity.

"Welcome, Alex," Ava said softly, her voice tinged with apprehension. "I've been expecting you."

Alex nodded, his throat tight with emotion. "I'm here," he replied, his words barely above a whisper. "And I have questions."

"Why did you keep this from me?" Alex demanded, his voice rising with each word. "Why hide the truth about my own identity?"
