Chapter Thirty Nine

The bathroom door creaked open, and Alex emerged, his silhouette outlined by the soft light filtering through the bedroom curtains. He paused, taking in the sight of Sarah lying peacefully on the bed, her chest rising and falling in rhythm with each gentle breath.

A mixture of emotions swirled within Alex – love, concern, and a deep-seated fear born from the ominous warning of the anonymous caller. He knew he couldn't keep Sarah in the dark any longer; she deserved to know the truth, no matter how unsettling it may be.

Approaching the bed, Alex sat down beside Sarah, his fingers tracing the delicate curve of her cheek. "Sarah," he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur.

Carefully, so as not to disturb her slumber, Alex crossed the room and perched on the edge of the bed. He reached out and brushed a stray lock of hair from Sarah's forehead, his touch gentle and tender.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered, his voice barely above a breath.
