Third Point Of View

Logan made sure that he corrected that impression before the lady went out, spoiling his name. He had to take care of that because no one else would.

He let out a loud sigh as he pushed the door open, leaving the room completely.

Immediately he was gone, and out of sight; Sophia let out a frustrated sigh, shoveling her fingers deep into her raven-black hair.

Her eyes burned severely as she tried to hold back her tears. This was too hard to do as her tears already forced their way out of her eyes and they rolled down her cheeks so freely.

Snapping back to reality, Sophia swung into action and wore her clothes, she grabbed her bag and ransacked it thoroughly to make sure that nothing was missing.

Not even a pin because that man to her, looked like a thief. No matter what he said, he still looked like a pauper to him and paupers love stealing because they can't get that worth of money in their lifetime.

When she was done, Sophia walked towards the door and was about to twist it open when her eyes snapped back to the first-night blood on the bed sheets.

Her heart dropped again, sinking into her stomach as if she was just seeing it for the first time.

“This is all his fault. All these happened because of Mr. Thompson!” Sophia stomped her feet to the ground angrily. “ I knew he was up to no good. He just wanted to get under my pants! I wish I could go back in time and correct things. I won't be there for some family business.”

With a bitter mouth and a heart filled with regret, Sophia left the room and her mind twirled with different thoughts as she walked down the stairs.

This might seem like just one worry but there was a greater one in front that she didn't know how to handle.

Her mind was occupied on how she was going to explain to the patriarch of the family that she couldn't get Mr. Thompson to sign the contract.

That was a failure on her path.

Sophia knew the truth. The second she decided to run for her life after finding out that she was drugged. Mr. Thompson would strike back and definitely break Riven Holdings, since she didn't let him have her way with her.

It was as simple as that.

“I’m seriously fucked. This is really bad for me and…I wish I knew what to do to handle this,” she said, biting her lower lip and her mind drifted away from reality.

Her phone rang loudly and it snapped her back to the current reality, and she shook her head slightly and inhaled deeply before picking the call.

“Sophia!” A lively voice called from the other end of the phone, it belongs to Rosalia Riven, Sophia's mom. “ How did it go? Oh, my dear. I knew it would go well. You are not known for messing up the family deals. Did Mr. Thompson sign the contract?” she asked.

Sophia tightened her eyes, feeling guilty. This was tougher than she thought it was. She could not bring herself to disclose the bad news to her mother.

“I’m sorry, mum. But I can't really talk now. I'm not really in the mood. Can we talk once I'm home? Sophia asked, lazily.

“There is a meeting at the matriarch's mansion. I guess it's about the contract!” Rosalia was beyond excited.

Sophia's shoulders fell and she was already slipping off the wall where she rested her back. How wish her mother knew. She won't be this excited.

“Finally mother would give you the recognition you deserve! You have really worked so hard and you deserved to be recognised for it.”

“I'm hanging up now, sorry.”

Before her mother could open her mouth to continue her rants, Sophia quickly hung up.

In the luxurious living room of the Riven family, Sophia sank into the sofa, letting out a loud and frustrated sigh.

Before she could even blink, her mother rushed towards her and sunk into the chair beside her.

“ How did it go? Spill the tea, my love!” She asked, her eyes bright with so many expectations. “I can't wait to brag to my friends how great my daughter is! They would be so jealous and wish that they would have a daughter like mine.”

“It didn't go well.” Sophia said, dropping the bomb and the look on Rosalia’s face changed.

Her hopes were dashed with just a few words.

“It was not my fault, mum. Don't blame me. I was drugged by Mr. Thompson but I managed to escape.”

“So?” Rosalia folded her hand under her breasts with a raised brow, waiting for her to continue.

“So, we won't be getting the contract any longer. That is what it means.”

“The matriarch will be mad at you for this!” Rosalia blurted out “ You should have let him have his way with you! How hard was it? Don't you think?”

Sophia cringed at the words of her mother. She could not believe that such things could come out from her mother's words.

Mr. Thompson was not a man one could look at twice. He was a heavyset man with a big stomach that stuck out over his belt.

His face was rough-looking, with deep wrinkles and a red, bulbous nose. And his teeth? They were scattered around his gum and it sure stinks right there.

“I can't let that fat man have his way with me! I can't!”

If it were a pleasant looking man, Perhaps, Sophia would have sacrificed her pride as a woman so she could get him to sign the contract with her company, but Mr. Thompson was far from pleasant.

He was not who she could have anything to do with even if it was going to be for a night.

She cared about appearance and as the most beautiful lady in Apex City, it would ruin her image if she ends up getting married to a man like Mr. Thompson.

“Well, I don't think you have an option concerning that!” Rosalia cut in. “Mother would be celebrating her 75th birthday next week, make sure you bring the topic of marriage with Mr. Thompson, if you want the recognition you deserve!”

“What!”

“You heard me right. Do not allow me to repeat myself.”

“I don't want to!” Sophia protested, declining the offer. That was so absurd that only the thought of that was hurting her head.

“I won't marry someone like Mr. Thompson and that is final!”

……

Hours flew by, and soon every member of the Riven family was gathered at the patriarch's mansion.

What was at stake was far more important and it needed to be thrashed immediately.

“Sophia, I heard that the contract did not go well. Isn't that surprising to hear?” A mocking voice said, flashing a smile at Sophia, whose face remained straight.

She expected this. The mocking. The laughs. There were all torture but it was something that she saw coming.

“You were so confident that you could make Mr. Thompson sign the contract, loser!”

“Enough Ethan, mind your words! Be careful!” Augusta Riven, the family matriarch commanded as she sat on her special chair with her hands placed on the table.

Her silver hair was neat, and her blue eyes shone brightly with wisdom.

“Okay, Grandma.” Ethan answered, hanging his head low.

“ Sophia, what happened? Why didn't Mr. Thompson sign the contract?” Augusta Riven asked. This time, her eyes were locked on Sophia, who could not dare look into her eyes.

“I was drugged by him. He wanted to have his way with me, but I was able to escape. I was scared when it happened,” Sophia replied in a low voice.

She was embarrassed to even speak about what had happened the previous night. Everyone looked like they were going to judge her.

“And so?” Augusta raised her brows, while Sophia's head snapped up.

“He wanted to have his way with me instead of signing the contract, Grandpa,” she said, straining her words to make herself clear incase they missed what she said the first time.

“ Yes, and so? You should have let him if that would get us the contract! It's not as hard as you think!”

Sophia’s jaw fell open and she became dumbfounded.

“We have to correct this mess and that can only be corrected through marriage Since you failed to get the contract, you will have to plead with Mr. Thompson and get married to him!” Augusta revealed.

“What! Grandma, I can't get married to him!” Sophia blurted out before she could stop herself from speaking.

“Why? Is there any reason why you can't get married to him?” Augusta asked, shooting a deadly glare at Sophia who swallowed a lump of saliva down her throat.

“ Ye….yes..” Sophia started with a shaky voice. “ I…I have a fiancé!”

The hall hummed with murmurs and whispers.

Sophia's eyes widened as realization dawned on her. She was also surprised at what she said.

“What are you talking about Sophia?” Rosalia asked, shocked to the core by what her daughter just said.“ Which fiancé are you talking about here?”

Rosalia knew everything about Sophia, but how come she had no idea that her daughter has a fiancé?

It was a shock to her!

“Are you lying to us so you won't get married to Mr. Thompson?” Ethan asked sarcastically with a mischievous grin on his face.

“ Why should I lie?” Sophia started. “ I already had plans of telling everyone. My fiancé was the one who saved me after I was drugged.”

“ Who is he?” Augusta asked sternly. “ Which family is he from? What is his net worth? How many houses does he have? All these and more are important information that we need to know.”

“Ahum….” Sophia started, biting the wall of her mouth, as she had no words to say.

“I will introduce him during your birthday, Grandma. That would be a perfect birthday gift for you? Don't you think? And guess what? He is better than Mr. Thompson!”

Sophia knew for a fact that it was a big lie!

She had no fiancé and she indeed exaggerated.

But it seems that it was the only way to stop the marri

age with Mr. Thompsona and she would do everything she could to stop it.

“I will take your words for it. He had better surpass Mr. Thompson or else…!”

The man’s voice was distorted by the visor, deep and mechanical, but the intent behind his words was sharp enough to slice through Sophia’s bones and send Chills through her. Her first instinct was to run. Her second was to scream.Neither would save her.The figure tilted his head, studying her like an object in a lab jar. “I’m actually seeing you in the flesh. It’s an honor,” he murmured, almost to himself, before taking a slow step forward.Sophia’s grip tightened on the respirator mask. “I don’t know who you are,” she said, her voice shaking despite her effort to sound firm. “But you’re making a mistake.”He chuckled—a cold, humorless sound. “It’s no mistake, I assure you. You’re worth more than the Cold Cell, more than Cipher… more than you even realize.”Sophia’s mind spun, confused. What did he mean? Worth more than Malachi in what way exactly? Before she could ask, movement flickered behind him.A blur of black and steel.Malachi.He moved like he was a part of the shadow

.The early morning dew clung to the windows of the safehouse, blurring the skyline of Apex City like a dream fading into daylight. Sophia stood by the narrow window in her borrowed grey sweater, fingers wrapped tightly around a mug of steaming coffee. She wasn’t sure when she’d last slept. Her eyes felt heavy, but her mind was razor sharp.Behind her, the soft sound of boots on steel floors echoed faintly.“I thought you’d be in the war room,” Malachi said from the doorway.“I needed air,” she murmured, without turning. “But we’re underground. So, I settled for mist and silence.”Malachi stepped into the room, his presence solid, grounded. “You’re scared.”His voice was soft and filled with warmth. She turned to face him. “I’m not scared,” she said quietly. “I’m furious… I know I can’t afford to be scared now.”He studied her quietly, then gave a single nod. “Good.”Sophia walked toward him, the light catching the slight tremble in her hands. “This Gina woman… I trusted her. She ga

She hadn’t moved for what felt like hours, her eyes still fixated on the closed door.Logan—no, Malachi—was out there somewhere, carrying the weight of a name that sounded more like a code than a person. Cipher. The man she had insulted, degraded, underestimated... now bore the reputation of a war legend feared in the highest circles of global power. And she had married him.No. She had bought him.The shame clung to her like oil, refusing to wash off, no matter how many times she mentally apologized. The silence in the room was deafening until it was broken by the soft beep of a touchscreen panel near the bed. A message blinked on the screen:> “Report to Command Hall – Level 3. Urgent.”Her stomach twisted. She stood, straightened her blouse, and slipped on the flats someone had laid neatly beside the door. There were no guards posted in the hallway, just silent, blinking lights embedded in smooth walls. Everythin

“Who are you?” Sophia asked, her voice shaky.“Move,” the man said again, stepping closer. One of the men in black suits was beginning to come to.Sophia didn’t wait for anymore urging, grabbing her phone off the nightstand and followed the armored figure into the hallway. The elevator was out. The man pointed at the stairs. “Down. Fast.”Sophia grimaced at his rude tone but she did as she was told. They moved in silence, her bare feet slapping against the cold marble steps. She was struggling to keep up with her rescuer and he wasn’t winded unlike her, even as they hit the tenth floor, then the sixth.“Who sent you?” she managed to ask between pants.A pause. “Someone who hasn’t stopped watching your back.”That made her falter. She slowed, just a fraction, but he noticed.“You’re going to have to trust me, Sophia.”And it

  • CHAPTER 47

The glass wall of the Volkov Tower glimmered as the first rays of sunlight spilled against the polished floors. Silence draped the entire thirty-seventh floors like a velvet curtain, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the antique clock mounted behind the massive obsidian desk. Malachi Volkov— he had decided to use his real name now that he knew it—stood facing the skyline, his hands tucked behind his back, posture stiff, contemplative. He hadn’t slept.Sleep had become a luxury now, one he couldn’t afford now. Not when the world believed he had perished three years ago, and his enemies still breathed.A knock echoed softly.“Enter,” he said, his voice flat, low, but powerful. The door creaked open and Mr. Eric stepped in, holding a tablet, his expression tense. “Sir… news from Apex.”Malachi turned, face unreadable.Eric hesitated, then handed over the device. “The Riven Holdings Board has filed for emergency bankruptcy protection. Malachi stepped forward, slow and composed. The sound of his boots against the floor was louder than it should’ve been. No apology. No denial. He didn’t wait for either. He turned his back to her without hesitation and walked out of the cell, the door still open behind him.And for the first time in her life, Sophia Riven felt truly abandoned. Not in body but in meaning. Her wrists were free.
