"Come on. Come on, Jax." Mira sounded too excited, pulling Jax along with her. They had just arrived at their residence in a flying transit. Jax chuckled, seeing how Mira was so full of energy. Everything he had thought was wrong and he wanted to be happy with her at that moment. The building was part of the ones in the lower district but it was beautiful. Mira had painted it with ambient colours that Jax knew her for too well. Her eyes were even brighter than Jax had ever remembered. When they first met as NPCs who still followed the game's script, Jax remembered this was exactly how delighted she was then as well. CH.71: Welcome to Veyne
Veyne stood out at the top of the mountains. The sky was clearer with thick forest surrounding the area. High-levelled bridges carved a path into the city and dark waters were channelled through lead tunnels.Lina appeared with two figures behind her. They were chained to her hands, and bound with a skill dampening effect, rendering them weak behind her.More crowds pooled in around them, also seeking entrance into the huge city. The guard who was stationed at the entrance stopped her and looked behind her."Name and position?""I am SleeperBuild. I have with me a bounty." She said in a voice that was thicker."What bounty?""The Glitch Overlord and his companion." she said and the guard froze for a second. He looked over her shoulder with disbelief."That is impossible." He argued.Lina scoffed and twitched her lips."Everyone looks down on me hence the name." She said and turned to the captives she had in her grip. CH.70: One Last Branch
The ground had become dust. Rocks crushed into crusts, the space filled with the clash of Jax's energy and Eldric's. Jax kept pushing back, playing defense while Eldric charged with the full force of an offense."Lina, anytime now please."Eldric was bleeding on the side of his head but he didn't seem to feel the pain. Jax didn't want to hurt him any further. Jax, on the other hand, had Vortex Core sealing his wounds steadily.With each fight and usage of his skills, the system kept unlocking his level, elevating his physical and mental stats.Eldric launched a boulder toward Jax which he caught in the air. He mirrored Eldric's object compulsion to turn the boulder into packed sand and it rained down between them. Eldric blew it toward Jax and he evaded the attack."I got it. Read it now!" The journey through the Forbidden Wilds wasn't as dangerous as the first time Jax had passed through there with his friends. He directed their path more easily this time. He and Lina reached the underground station and channelled through the tunnels.Jax's heart rate climbed. His pulse quickened with anticipation. His face broke into a wide smile, hands twitching as he couldn't wait to see everyone again. He could almost imagine how Mira would worry endlessly about him.The space was dark when they entered.
