“Now that you’ve seen what I really look like, you must find me disgusting too, don’t you?”
Despite the firmness in her voice, Darla sat on the ground with her head lowered.
She hadn’t expected Adrian to pull her up to help her stand, leaving her with no choice but to face him.
Now, all she could do was endure the embarrassment.
“Darla, you…”
Adrian trailed off, unsure whether he should say anything at that moment.
At the same time, he tried to suppress the shock on his face.
He finally understood why the woman had never taken off the helmet covering her face.
The area from Darla’s upper lip down to her chin was indeed beautiful, as though her face had been sculpted by the heavens themselves. But everything from her nose upward was completely different.
From her forehead to the tip of her nose, Darla’s skin was wrinkled and blackened, resembling skin that had only recently recovered from severe burns.
Even her eyes could barely open properly.
If she hadn’t possessed a Legendary Talent that allowed her to see how many Stones were contained inside a monster’s body, she would have stood almost no chance against them.
“You don’t need to say anything. I’ll leave now. I’m used to this.”
Darla tried to get up from the ground, but excruciating pain shot through both her legs. She couldn’t even stand upright.
“Don’t move. Let me carry you.”
Adrian reached out with both arms and wrapped them around her waist.
“No! Don’t do that!”
Darla pushed him away, but her efforts were futile.
The man was much stronger than she was, so he could easily lift her into his arms.
“Stop complaining. You need treatment.”
After laying her down on the bed, Adrian handed her a hand-sized glass bottle containing a green liquid.
“This will restore your strength.”
It was a stamina-restoring elixir that Adrian had obtained from the healing altar.
“I told you, you don’t have to do this!”
Although Darla’s voice still sounded sharp, she took the bottle and gulped down its contents until nothing remained.
She truly didn’t know what to do. All she knew was that Adrian’s attitude made her feel considerably more at ease.
“If only I hadn’t gone to that place back then, none of this would have happened.”
Looking somewhat better, Darla let out a sigh before finally revealing what she had kept buried deep in her heart all this time.
A month after the red mist had covered the Earth, Darla received an invitation from the wealthiest man in the city to discuss business. She knew the man and had always ignored his invitations.
However, with food supplies running low, she had no choice but to accept his invitation this time.
Unfortunately, what should have been nothing more than a formal meeting descended into chaos when the man tried to persuade her to do something indecent.
“You bastard! You filthy scoundrel! I’m leaving! I don’t need your help!”
Darla shouted furiously and rose to her feet, intending to leave.
But two burly bodyguards immediately grabbed her by the arms.
“Just because you’re the most beautiful woman in this city, you think you can treat me like that? How naive! I’ve never tolerated insults from anyone! I’ll make you regret this!”
“He shouted those disgusting words while pouring a bottle of acid over my face,” Darla continued. “I will never forget what he did to me.”
“So that’s why you’ve been collecting Attribute Stones?” Adrian asked.
“Hmph.”
Darla nodded.
“You know every Lord has a different shop interface, right? Mine contains a list of magical abilities that can be purchased with Attribute Stones. The more Attribute Stones I have, the more high-level items become unlocked. I just want to settle this once and for all. That’s why I have to collect as many Stones as possible.”
The previous night, when she heard Adrian snoring, Darla had left the room to remove her helmet and wash her face. She had then entered all the Attribute Stones she possessed into her system.
She had hoped that one or two new items would become available, something she could use to restore her face.
However, after scrolling all the way to the bottom, she hadn’t found a single item related to what she needed.
“Are these Stones still not enough?”
Disappointed, she had barely been able to sleep throughout the night. Then, when she heard the commotion outside and saw the Abominations appear, her hopes had been rekindled.
“Maybe with this many Attribute Stones, there’s an ability I can purchase to heal my face.”
She had indeed managed to loot an enormous number of Stones from the three Abominations. Yet even after entering all those Stones into her system, she still couldn’t find what she was looking for.
“I don’t want to hope for any more miracles. But I’ll never give up,” Darla said.
So that’s why she’s been covering her face all this time. She’s ashamed of how she looks.
Although Adrian said nothing aloud, he had been listening to Darla’s story the entire time.
However, the moment he heard her mention the word miracle, something immediately came to mind.
Wait! Could it be…

Chapter 29 - The Attack Plan Begins
“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni
Chapter 28 - The Fate of the Lords and Kaelen’s Delight
“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill
Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
