“Are you sure you want to come with me?”
Adrian had just stepped out of the greenhouse when he saw Darla standing there, fully equipped with her combat gear and sword.
It wasn’t that he doubted the woman’s abilities. But since she had only just recovered from her injuries, letting her rest for an entire day was the sensible thing to do.
“Do you think I’m some weak woman who can only sleep all day?”
The woman responded with a broad, teasing smile.
“Have you forgotten? The potion you gave me has miraculous effects. Not only do I feel no pain in my body, but I don’t feel tired in the slightest, either.”
“But…”
Adrian noticed something different about her. It wasn’t her physique or appearance, which had become far more attractive and charming than before.
“Don’t you need your helmet anymore?”
Previously, the woman would never remove the steel helmet covering her face. But this time, she had left her face completely uncovered.
Adrian wasn’t trying to tease her. But when a woman had just recovered her beautiful face, wasn’t it only reasonable to protect it with a helmet?
However, such a thought seemed never to have crossed Darla’s mind. Instead of answering, she simply lowered her head. A blush quickly spread across her face.
“What are you waiting for? Let’s go!”
Looking slightly embarrassed, the woman hurriedly started walking ahead of him.
“Sure.”
Adrian followed her.
Of course, he couldn’t refuse such a good offer. Darla could see the various types of Stones inside monsters’ bodies. With her accompanying him, their chances of obtaining more and more valuable loot would increase dramatically.
An hour later.
Unlike the previous day, they had to venture much deeper into the forest before finding a monster.
“Adrian, over there! At three o’clock!”
Darla raised her index finger.
About thirty meters ahead stood a cluster of bushes as tall as a human. Although nothing appeared to be hiding behind them from the outside, Darla could see red and golden light glowing simultaneously.
“That must be a monster!”
Whoosh!
Adrian released an arrow from his bow.
If there really was a monster hiding there, it would surely come out soon.
However, nothing happened, even after half a minute had passed.
“Strange! My arrows should have hit them, shouldn’t they? Then why aren’t they coming out to attack us?”
Adrian drew another arrow.
“Fine. If you really want to die, I’ll gladly oblige!”
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Adrian fired not just once or twice, but four times in total. And since his quiver would never run out of arrows, he didn’t have to worry about exhausting his ammunition.
“Still not ready to give up?”
Adrian drew a fifth arrow.
Growl!
At that moment, a deep, thunderous growl came from behind the bushes.
A few moments later, a three-meter-tall brown bear emerged, with four arrows embedded in its body.
Rather than injuring it, the arrows had only pierced the surface. They didn’t seem to pose any threat to the monster at all.
“Growl!”
With a casual swipe of its paw, the monster knocked away all four arrows as though they had never been a problem. Then it opened its mouth wide and let out a thunderous roar, accompanied by a powerful gust of air.
“Darla, what kind of monster is this?”
Adrian kept his hand ready on his bow, prepared to shoot the moment the creature attacked.
“This is bad! We have to leave now! It’s incredibly powerful! It’s at least in the early Gold tier!”
What?
Adrian’s eyes widened.
After growing frustrated at finding nothing, he had finally felt delighted when a monster appeared before him.
But now that he knew just how powerful this monster really was, he realized that what he had considered good luck might actually be a disaster.
“Run! Run now!”
Adrian pushed Darla backward while remaining where he was instead of immediately fleeing. He had to do this to draw the monster’s attention away from her.
“What about you?”
“Don’t worry about me! I can summon Yemima! Go!”
Adrian was lying when he said that. He had ordered Yemima to guard the shelter. And since the warrior was bound by an oath of loyalty to him, she wouldn’t leave her post.
Therefore, hoping the Dark Knight would arrive now was pointless. Nevertheless, he said it because he didn’t want Darla to worry.
I don’t know if I can fight this monster, he thought. But the most important thing right now is to get Darla as far away as possible.
Darla stared at Adrian with an expression that was difficult to decipher before turning and running as far away as she could.
I have to find help! Yes, I’ll find help!
She knew she wouldn’t be of much use if she stayed there. So, finding help was now her only priority, any help she could get to save Adrian.
Slash!
However, after running only about fifty meters, she heard a sharp slashing sound from behind her.
“Adrian!”
Darla stopped immediately. Her body stiffened as terrible thoughts flashed through her mind.
She couldn’t take another step.
Turning around, she didn’t hesitate for even a moment before sprinting back toward the place where the man was.

Chapter 29 - The Attack Plan Begins
“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni
Chapter 28 - The Fate of the Lords and Kaelen’s Delight
“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill
Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
