“The countdown begins.”
The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.
“Ten.”
“Nine.”
“Eight.”
“Seven.”
“Six.”
Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.
“Five.”
“Four.”
At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure.
The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region.
And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.
“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
“Lords, the true test of your abilities begins now. Do whatever it takes to survive the monster attack. Remember the most important thing: whatever you do, don't die.”
00:00:00
The moment all the digits on the giant display turned to zero, a twenty-meter-high wall of red mist appeared in the distance.
And since Adrian's shelter now stood thirty meters tall, the searchlights he had installed on top of the greenhouse could illuminate an area up to two hundred meters ahead.
“What? It's even taller than it was in the old world?”
Back on Earth, the first wave of mist had been only five meters tall before rising to ten meters shortly before everyone was transported to the New World.
Seeing that it had now reached twice that height, Adrian finally understood why he needed to prepare for the worst.
Whoosh!
As the mist appeared, a powerful gust of wind suddenly swept toward them.
The mist had initially been a hundred meters away, but it was now only fifty meters from the protective fence.
“Damn! This is a massacre waiting to happen!”
Fighting in the darkness was already difficult enough. Now, with the mist making visibility even worse, the New World had truly become a slaughterhouse.
However, just as the mist reached a point two meters away from the magical grass that stretched ten meters around the protective fence, it stopped advancing, as though an invisible barrier were holding it back.
The strong winds could still reach the greenhouse, but the red mist itself seemed trapped in place.
“Excellent! This will make the battle much easier to control!”
Even though the searchlights couldn't penetrate the mist, that didn't matter. What mattered most was the two-meter gap between the grass and the mist. According to Adrian's plan, that was where the battle would take place.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Soon, deep and terrifying growls echoed from within the mist. Adrian didn't need to wait for the monsters to reveal themselves to know what kind of creatures were coming to attack.
“Just a bunch of zombies? Is the system serving us an appetizer? Let's see how much damage they can do to this shelter!”
Gripping the iron railing of the second-floor lobby, Adrian continued observing the situation below.
“Hold that position! Don't let a single monster reach the grass!”
Shouting to the Northern General and Southern General standing outside the fence below, Adrian pointed toward the outer edge of the magical grass, ordering his troops to prevent any monsters from crossing it.
He knew that one of the most important missions tonight was to protect the magical grass.
If it was damaged, nothing would stop the red mist from reaching the protective fence. And if that happened, the monsters would have a chance to destroy it.
Although there was also magical grass growing inside the fence, Adrian still wanted to protect the fence itself.
“Yes, my lord!”
Both generals immediately drew their swords and led the soldiers into battle.
“Listen up, soldiers! Don't retreat even a single step! Kill anything that comes near!”
“Yes, Commander!”
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Immediately after their battle cries rang out, dozens of zombies emerged from the red mist. Running and leaping as though competing for the most precious food they could find, they charged toward the soldiers.
Their movements were fast, wild, and repulsive, as if they were driven entirely by their most primitive instincts.
“Soldiers, hold the line!”
On the other side, the undead soldiers raised their massive shields and held back the zombies attempting to break through their formation.
Behind their armored helmets, there wasn't the slightest trace of fear or horror. If anything, all that remained was a pure, unrestrained desire to kill.
“These lowly creatures must not get past us! Kill them all! Attack!”
The Northern General's roar thundered through the air. At the same time, the soldiers, who had been standing ready with their swords, thrust their weapons forward with their left hands.
Stab! Stab! Stab!
Crash! Crash! Crash!
The piercing sounds of swords stabbing through flesh rang out. Zombies fell to the ground with their heads severed or their bodies cut apart.
Yet the sight did nothing to frighten the zombies behind them. The carnage failed to stop their assault. If anything, their attacks only grew more intense.
Roar!
Roar!
Roar!
“Hold your positions! No one retreats!”
The Southern General issued his orders. Wielding a sword in each hand, he slashed at every zombie that appeared before him.
“My lord, should I intervene?”
Yemima, who had been standing beside Adrian in the lobby, looked eager to join the battle.
Although the zombies couldn't prey upon the undead soldiers, they could still kill them. And seeing how the number of incoming zombies was increasing rapidly, putting the soldiers under considerable pressure, Yemima didn't want to stand idly by without doing anything.
With her current level of strength, killing a hundred zombies in a single attack would be no difficult feat.
“No. Not yet. Let the soldiers deal with these zombies.”
As he spoke, Adrian kept his gaze fixed on the red mist, as though he were waiting for something.
“Growl!”
Just as he had expected, sharp growls suddenly rang out from within the mist, coming from multiple directions at the same time.
At that moment, a wide grin spread across his lips.
“Just as I expected.”

Chapter 29 - The Attack Plan Begins
“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni
Chapter 28 - The Fate of the Lords and Kaelen’s Delight
“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill

Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
