“Wait!”
Adrian immediately turned toward Darla, who had just stepped through the doorway.
“You’re… a lady of the Augburn family?”
In the old world, the name Augburn was not particularly familiar to the general public. But among the upper echelons of society, it was certainly no stranger.
“The Augburn family are the true rulers of the city. They’ve controlled it from behind the scenes for decades.”
That was what Adrian had heard from the senior servants while delivering food to a wealthy man’s house.
Of course, he had never actually met anyone from the family before.
“Yes. So what?”
Darla stared sharply at Adrian through her helmet.
“Are you planning to take revenge on me, just like they did to my family?”
“You’re reading too much into this.”
Adrian shook his head slightly.
“Of course I’m not thinking anything like that. I just didn’t expect to meet someone like you.”
“Don’t even think about bothering me or trying anything funny!”
Darla pointed her index finger at Adrian.
“Otherwise, I’ll make you regret it for the rest of your life!”
She said nothing more before walking toward the corner where the blanket had been laid out.
“No! Wait!”
Adrian quickly stopped her.
“What now?” Darla snapped. “Are you going to kick me out?”
Adrian said nothing. He simply couldn’t understand why this woman was being so sensitive.
It seems I can do something better instead.
He swiped across the screen several times.
“A bedroom costs one hundred Elemental Stones. A bathroom costs two hundred Elemental Stones.”
The System’s voice rang out.
In other words, if I want two bedrooms and one bathroom, won’t that cost me three hundred Elemental Stones? Adrian thought.
It had been days since he had last enjoyed the comfort of warm water pouring over his body. He still had two days left before the Apocalypse officially began. Before then, he wanted to make himself comfortable.
All right. That’s fine. I can gather more Stones tomorrow. For now, it’s time to enjoy myself.
[Proceed with purchase.]
Golden light radiated from beneath the stone floor at three separate points. Within seconds, three rooms had taken shape inside the Greenhouse.
“Yes! Now we can sleep comfortably!”
Adrian opened the first door.
The sight of a single bed with a soft mattress and fluffy pillows made his eyes light up.
It had been months since he had last enjoyed a bed this comfortable. Ever since he had been forced to sleep sitting up to keep watch over Valia, ready to protect her whenever zombies attacked, he had barely known a decent night’s rest. What lay before him now felt like the perfect reward for all those hardships.
“What? Do you want one too?”
Adrian stopped on his way to the bathroom when he noticed Darla standing motionless in place.
“What! Who said I wanted to bathe with you? Go by yourself!”
Darla hurried into the other bedroom and slammed the door shut.
Her heart was beating strangely fast.
Is this man an idiot or what? He doesn’t seem angry or resentful toward me. Instead, he’s treating me so well. What’s going on? Is he planning something?
The faint sound of running water drifted from the bathroom. Adrian could feel his body becoming much fresher.
When he stepped out of the bathroom, his mind felt clearer as well.
That’s right. I can’t afford to relax. I have to prepare for whatever comes next.
Through the Greenhouse’s glass walls, he could see that it had grown completely dark. From where he stood, he couldn’t see anything outside.
That reminded him of what Darla had said earlier that afternoon: the Greenhouse might need something more.
“I need to strengthen its defenses.”
He agreed that something was missing from the Greenhouse. But rather than a garden, what it really needed was a perimeter fence.
There was no fence at all surrounding the Greenhouse. Leaving it exposed like this overnight was quite risky, especially since he knew that the zombies out there didn’t truly sleep. They could attack at any moment.
“All right. Let’s get started.”
“A three-meter-high fence of standard thickness costs one hundred Elemental Stones. Would you like to proceed with the purchase?”
“Of course!”
After he pressed the button, golden light shimmered beneath the ground ten meters in front of the Greenhouse, followed by a rumbling sound.
The golden light rose to the surface, bringing with it a concrete perimeter wall thirty centimeters thick.
In less than a minute, the entire area surrounding the Greenhouse was now protected.
But Adrian didn’t think that was enough.
His fingers continued tapping the screen.
[Turret installation successful. The perimeter wall has been equipped with four laser cannons, one installed at each corner.]
Unlike the turret on the Greenhouse’s roof, which was only two-star level, these four turrets were five-star weapons. They had twice the firing range and reloaded twice as fast.
[Garden installation successful. The entire outdoor area surrounding the Greenhouse has been covered with green grass.]
Adrian hadn’t chosen the green grass without careful consideration.
“This isn’t ordinary green grass. It has the ability to absorb toxins from the red mist. From now on, staying within this yard should be much safer.”
In addition, palm trees had been planted at each corner, releasing a particular fragrance.
“The scent of these trees can disrupt the zombies’ tracking systems. Anyone inside the perimeter should be safe from attacks by these monsters.”
Adrian felt that was enough for tonight. But then, as he glanced toward one corner of the Greenhouse, he realized something.
“That’s right. I almost forgot one important thing.”

Chapter 29 - The Attack Plan Begins
“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni
Chapter 28 - The Fate of the Lords and Kaelen’s Delight
“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al
Chapter 26 - Time for a Counterattack
“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill
Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
