“This box must have some kind of use, right?”

Taking the small, rusty iron box out of his bag, Adrian examined it for a while.

Back in the old world, the reward chests that appeared after killing zombies had never contained anything useless. Everything inside them was bound to serve some purpose.

Yet even after inspecting it for quite some time, he still had no idea what this thing was for.

“All right. No need to force it. I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon enough.”

Lowering his hand, he casually placed the box on the floor beside him.

Unexpectedly, the moment the box touched the floor, it landed on the Weapon Altar.

[New device detected.]

A notification screen appeared before Adrian.

[A magical box with unlimited capacity. Place anything inside, and it will be safely preserved. Not only inanimate objects, but the host can also store food and other items while keeping them fresh. This box is capable of maintaining an object's condition exactly as it was when first placed inside.]

In other words, if Adrian put a box of steaming-hot noodles inside, he could take them out later in exactly the same condition?

That was actually pretty good!

[One hundred Elemental Stones are required to activate it.]

“What? I still have to pay for it? Good grief! This is absolutely outrageous!”

Adrian’s happiness evaporated as soon as he read the final line of the notification. He didn’t want to spend any Stones for the time being. He needed to conserve his savings.

Still, there was no reason to be disappointed. He could always activate it another time.

“Now that everything’s taken care of, I might as well get some sleep.”

After closing his bedroom door, it didn’t take long for the sound of snoring to fill the entire Greenhouse.

Unbeknownst to him, shortly after he entered his room, Darla stood outside his door, pressing her ear against it.

“He should be asleep by now, right?” she murmured. “I can’t afford to waste any more time. I have to do it now.”

***

Zap-zap! Zap-zap! Zap-zap!

“Growl! Growl! Growl!”

Adrian blinked as the deafening sound of laser fire outside filled his ears.

“Damn it! It’s only two in the morning, and these monsters are already attacking?”

Grabbing his bow and quiver, he immediately rushed outside.

“Good! At least none of them have managed to get inside!”

The turret on the Greenhouse roof and the four turrets at the corners of the perimeter wall continued firing at several points ahead.

It seemed Adrian was lucky. The zombies had only just appeared.

“Adrian, what’s going on?”

Darla emerged through the doorway. Although she was wearing a nightgown, the steel helmet was still firmly on her head.

This time, however, Adrian had no intention of questioning her about it.

“The zombies came earlier than we expected. I don’t know if there are more of them this time. Just stay here and keep your guard up. I’m going outside to check the situation.”

Adrian couldn’t rely on the turrets alone. If the attackers turned out to be an enormous horde, the laser cannons might not be enough to hold them back.

“Good grief! It’s pitch-black out here!”

Looking through a gap in the perimeter wall, he found the surroundings almost completely shrouded in darkness.

Aside from the zombies’ roars, he could barely see anything.

“There’s no point bringing a bow if I can’t even see where they are.”

Just then, a familiar fragrance reached his nose.

“Don’t worry. Just follow my instructions.”

Darla stood beside him, holding her Silver-tier sword.

“You can see in the dark?”

Adrian turned to look at her.

“Ten o’clock, straight ahead!” Darla shouted instead of answering. “Twenty meters!”

Drawing an arrow, Adrian aimed at the spot she had indicated.

“Nine o’clock! Twelve meters!”

Stab!

Stab!

Stab!

Although he couldn’t actually see his targets, Adrian was highly skilled with a bow.

Each arrow’s sharp whistle was soon followed by the heavy thud of a body hitting the ground.

More than ten minutes passed before Darla opened the perimeter gate and rushed outside.

“Darla, what are you doing?”

It wasn’t safe to loot while the surroundings were still dark. They should at least wait until morning. If another sudden attack occurred, Adrian wouldn’t be able to help her.

Even so, he had no time to stop her. Darla had already moved too quickly.

At that moment, a deep, thunderous growl came from somewhere ahead.

Zap-zap! Zap-zap! Zap-zap!

At the same time, the turrets that had just stopped firing sprang back into action.

Another group of monsters seemed to be approaching, and this time, their sounds didn’t resemble those of ordinary zombies.

“Darla! Come back! Get back here now!”

“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni

“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h

“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al

“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill

Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid

“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
