Just like she came, she was gone, and he was left alone in the room once again.
If he eventually divorced her, then he would be able to go through the experimental procedure without needing anyone else to sign for him, since it would be proven that he was a legal adult without a supporting relative or spouse.
His hands hovered over his phone as he quickly placed a call to the family lawyer, and soon enough, he had the details of the divorce agreement in his hands.
Before he left the hospital, the doctor primarily in charge of his brain tumor treatment came to him with a broad smile stretching from ear to ear.
It was unlike anything he had ever seen before, and he could literally see the joy bubbling inside her.
"Mr. Riley, we have good news. A random donor has decided to pay for the full course of your surgery," she explained.
"You might want me to reveal the person's identity, but they have opted to remain anonymous, so we apologize that we will not be able to give you any information relating to them.
Before that, I would like you to sign these consent agreements so we can proceed with the surgery!" she said, handing Riley a couple of papers.
He remembered a week ago when he told Sophia that he needed to draw from their trust fund since he needed her signature, and she had basically screeched at him.
She had accused him of wanting to squander their family money and using a pathetic sickness as a sour excuse for it.
And now, a stranger had come to his aid.
"We would like to begin the process immediately so that your condition does not deteriorate any further.
And since you will be here for a while, it would be best if you have someone bring a few supplies over for you!"
Riley nodded.
There was no point wasting his time asking Sophia when he already knew exactly what her response was going to be.
A few moments later, the divorce papers were delivered to him and he held them in his hands.
He stared at them for a while, a pit of emotions rising in his stomach, wondering whether he was just being paranoid. Besides, she had apologized only moments ago.
Riley finally decided to hold onto the agreement. After he was cleared and discharged from the ward, he went straight home.
The first thing he noticed were the new pair of men's slides by the door as he walked inside.
The place reeked of Harry's cologne, and he heard their loud laughter spilling from inside the room.
Riley's hands curled tightly. During their courtship they had agreed that they would not let anyone live with them. They could offer help from a distance, but not inside their own home.
Sophia had proposed it herself, saying it was because of a past trauma she was trying to move away from.
Even when his mother was sick before her death, Sophia had refused point-blank, and he had respected her decision, thinking that she had her reasons.
And now here she was, trampling over the sacred agreement they had made between each other, all for another man.
His blood boiled, his face burning bright red as he walked toward the room and stepped quietly inside where she was getting Harry settled.
When Riley looked down, he could see his belongings piled by the door, tossed out like garbage without so much as a word in a house that he was supposed to jointly own.
Riley didn't realize when the blood rushed to his face, burning it bright red.
The only thing clouding his mind was the urge to go inside and drag Harry out, regardless of what Sophia was going to say.
Then he paused and listened closely.
"I went to the hospital earlier and visited Riley with food. I didn't go there for him though. I needed to take pictures of him so that we can use them for the fundraiser.
Once that is settled, I will have all the money transferred to your account so that you can do something with it.
You are precious and should not have to work for such things. Besides, the money spent on Riley's bills needs to be recovered."
Riley trembled under his own weight. The money that belonged to him, the money he had saved up.
The realization hit him like a brick and his heart pounded as the words settled at the bottom of his stomach like molten rock.
She hadn't come to the hospital because she cared or wanted to see him.
She was only there because she needed to use him for the man she treated like her husband instead.
Riley's tongue pressed against the roof of his mouth. He grabbed a pen and scrawled his signature across the divorce agreement in his hands.
Afterward, he burst into the room without warning. Sophia frowned.
"Don't you have the basic etiquette to knock?" she growled before her face eased slightly.
Riley couldn't help the scoff that escaped his lips. So he needed to knock for a room that was his.
"Harry will be using your room for a while. He's too traumatized by the earthquake to stay alone!" she said.
"Cool!" Riley replied.
The word didn't sound like agreement. Instead, it was encased in a cold, icy aura, clouded with irritation. But she was too focused on Harry to even notice.
"Cool?" Sophia was stunned.
"Well, there will be no need for me to be here anymore, so he might as well have everything!" Riley responded, his words laced with pure irritation and sarcasm.
And Sophia caught it. She raised her brows and sneered.
"What are you talking about?"
Riley said nothing. He tossed the divorce agreement into her hands and she caught it.
"You can break free from this bondage since you are so tired of it and marry Harry instead, as you have always wanted!" Riley snapped and turned around to leave.

Chapter 10
She'd seen enough of his kind of person. People who would claim they were what they were not just to get attention, and it was freaking annoying. And he did it so terribly. From the way her grandfather spoke about this man, he had to be someone old, or even middle-aged, with years and a wealth of knowledge. Composed, with an overflowing aura. And Riley wasn't any of these. He looked like someone who had been dragged from the sewer, and he was far from having anything close to an aura.Until the last minute when he snapped.Again, he wasn't worth the time.Patricia turned around to leave. She expected Riley to run after her, or call her name at least, but none of that happened. This was the usual tactic that people of his nature employed. However, he didn't even budge from the bed.Patricia sneered. *Was this another one of his tactics?* she said to herself. She bumped into Mr. Leonard, who smiled at her, and her eyes widened."Grandpa! I have warned you time after time to stop wasting
Chapter 9
Somewhere in the other part of the city, Sophia's face was filled with frowns as she walked away from the house to the office.Throughout the day, she had tried reaching out to Riley, and her calls didn't go through, not even once.Anger and rage flared through her spine, soon dissolving her worries. And as soon as it came, she tossed it from her mind. She had known Riley long enough to know that he would leave over something so trivial, no matter how much of a fuss he made.Taking a sip of coffee, Sophia cleared her mind before she walked into her office.Patricia, her assistant, was already waiting at the door. "How is the progress for the new drugs coming along?" she asked. Then Sophia saw how her assistant shuddered, and she raised a brow."Is there a problem?" she asked, her brows raised the entire time."We hit a roadblock!" Patricia finally said.Sophia shot up from her seat even before the sentence was completed from her lips.Everyone knew that the Biotech medicine showcase w
Chapter 8
"I should assume that you helped me? Thank you," Riley was the first to speak."No, I should be thanking you instead!" the man replied with a smile.‘Thanking me?’ The words rang a confused wave in his mind.He tried to remember where he had seen the man before. However, it was impossible to put a finger on it.The grey hair and peculiarly round face didn't strike him like anyone he could remember."Are you trying hard to figure out who I am?" the old man asked, seeing the way Riley's face was enveloped with confusion."That shouldn't be difficult for you, everyone knows me!" the man added. However, it got Riley even more confused because now he was sure he had never seen this face before. And from the way the man pouted with so much pride and confidence, it was a telltale sign that he was someone powerful. But it was understandable.Throughout the years, Riley had been tucked away as a househusband, literally living under Sophia's shadow without a life of his own.He worked directly
Chapter 7
Sophia woke up the next morning to a silent house. Usually, as early as 5 am, Riley’s voice would have already been heard over the counter, cleaning and prepping food for them. She turned, and her face met with Harry's.Last night, he could not sleep because of the trauma of the earthquake. Because he kept twisting and turning with his face filled with so much fright, she had asked him to come over."Is he throwing another tantrum now, and he won't even clean the house?" Sophia grumbled when she climbed down the stairs. When she looked around, there was no sign or trace of Riley anywhere, and her face squeezed into a deep frown, reaching almost to both sides of her ears."He's really throwing a tantrum, isn't he? What does he expect me to eat before leaving?" She glared, and stomped off towards the couch with a fierce look."Riley! Riley!" she called out, expecting him to be there. Then it dawned on her that he really had left. The frown and the fierce look on her face softened.*Did

“You are joking right? Are you really making a fuss again? I already told you how bad his condition is!”His condition was bad. When he was swooped away into an ambulance, his condition was terrible. Indeed, it had to be so bad.“Do you need money for upkeep? Is that why you are making a fuss!” Harry finally said, drawing closer towards the couple with a wide grin spread across his face. The frown that latched onto Sophia's face only grew deeper, and her eyes widened like she had been hit by a sudden wave of realization.“So that's it, that's the reason you've been acting up.” Her face squeezed tightly.“I will double your allowance in that case!” She said it like he wasn't working in the company, like everything she had wasn't built on the legacy he had forfeited while remaining the faithful house husband.Riley's face remained bland, and Sophia frowned.“How can you be so greedy!” she sneered. Still, Riley didn't flinch, a wave of heat coursing through her body and causing her nostr
