A deep chill spread through Brandon’s heart as Maggie lost consciousness.

Terrified and desperate, he rushed his her to the hospital.

After two agonizing hours of emergency rescue, Dr. Evans finally stepped out of the operating room with a heavy expression and led Brandon to a secluded corner of the hallway.

“I’m very sorry to tell you this, but her condition is not looking good,” Dr. Evans said.

“What do you mean?” Brandon’s hands shook violently. “Maggie was fine this morning. She was talking about her birthday and she wanted to go to school.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Maggie’s illness is affecting both her nerves and her heart,” Dr. Evans explained carefully. “She must have experienced some emotional stress, whether from fear, excitement, or shock, whatever it might be. Her body can no longer handle strong emotional reactions. The strain on her heart is becoming too dangerous.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He paused before continuing in a heavier voice.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“You need to understand this, Brandon. If it happens another time… her heart may not survive it.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon felt like he was going to lose Maggie. Fear and guilt twisted together inside him.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He could not even get her mom to stay with her for a while.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Now she was in the hospital because of him.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Can I go see her?” Brandon asked, as the doctor shook his head.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“She needs absolute rest and complete quiet for now,” the doctor said gently. “We still need to monitor her condition closely. Please stay nearby for a little while longer, and once she’s stable enough, I’ll personally let you see her. I promise.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon took in deep breaths as the doctor patted Brandon on the shoulder and walked away.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He then walked to the vending machine to grab a water bottle, but all he could see were Maggie’s favorite drinks staring back at him.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">That was when he saw something that made his body stop moving.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He turned to the side and saw Lyra and Jake.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake was standing close to Lyra, holding her hands in his

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon watched as Jake pulled Lyra forward and wrapped his arms around her, and she did not push him away.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Something cold settled heavily in Brandon’s chest.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">His daughter was sick down the hall, and his wife was here in another man’s arms.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He walked toward them slowly, his footsteps echoing across the hospital floor.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Are you having the best time of your life, Lyra?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra pulled away from Jake, turning to Brandon.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Her face turned red immediately.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Brandon, what the fuck are you doing here? Did you follow me here? Oh my God, you are the worst.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon let out a cold laugh. “Follow you?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Yes!” Lyra snapped immediately. “I came here because Jake’s son was sick, but you were so jealous and suspicious that you followed me all the way to the hospital. Do you know how ridiculous that is? Honestly, Brandon, you’re acting paranoid and pathetic right now.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake held his hands up in surrender.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Brandon, Please don’t be mad at Lyra. My little boy got a bad stomach upset this morning, and I was so scared. Lyra was the only person I could think of calling.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon turned to Jake, then looked at Lyra.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake was being so nice and gentle, but Brandon could tell this was all an act.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“He does not deserve your kindness.” Lyra said in a cold and sharp manner. “Just ignore him. Let’s go take care of Leo.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">That was when a nurse came out of a room nearby, holding a clipboard.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Is there a family member of Leo here? We have the medicine and follow-up plans ready.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“I will take care of it,” Lyra said right away.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She walked past Brandon like he was not there. She took the clipboard naturally, like she had done this many times before.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">As she rattled off the boy's allergies, exact medication schedules, and personal preferences to the nurse with practiced ease, the words felt like physical blows to Brandon.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She knew every intimate detail of Jake’s son’s health, yet she had dismissed her own daughter’s terminal illness as a lie. Standing there, Brandon found his wife was more of a mother to another man's child than she had ever been to her own dying daughter.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Suddenly, a little boy who was seven years old ran out.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Mommy Lyra!” the boy exclaimed happily.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He did not even look at Jake.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He ran to Lyra and put his arms around her legs, putting his face on her dress.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“My tummy feels better and I want to go home. Can you tell me a story in the car, the one about the robots in space, please?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra’s face changed in a way that Brandon had not seen in a very long time.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon had never seen her look at Maggie that gently.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She put the papers down on a chair, got down on the cold floor while putting her arms around the little boy.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She hugged him tightly, touching his hair with her fingers.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Oh, Leo, you naughty boy,” Lyra said to him in a soft voice, but anyone could tell she was not really upset with him. Her voice was warm and sweet. “You should not run in the hospital hallways, moreover you're still recovering, so need to save your energy.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“What about my story?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“If you promise to take your medicine along with nutritious food and fruits, I will tell you two stories in the car. Deal?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Deal,” Leo chuckled, then kissed her cheek.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon stood there with his fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palms.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Just down the hall, her own daughter was lying weak and unconscious in a hospital bed, yet Lyra did not even seem to care. Instead, she stood here comforting someone else’s child, coaxing him softly and holding him with a tenderness she rarely showed Maggie.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Not once did Lyra ask why Brandon was at the hospital. She had concluded he was here to spy on her.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Funny,” Brandon said coldly. “He looks healthy enough to run around the hallway asking for bedtime stories, yet this is the emergency you were called for?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra stood up immediately, anger flashing across her face, as she slowly pushed Leo behind Jake’s legs.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Are you not done yet, Brandon? Are you seriously causing trouble again? I’m so tired of the way you’re acting. Look at yourself, making fun of a child just to be mean, throwing a tantrum.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“I am not throwing a tantrum.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Yes, you are!” Lyra snapped, jabbing a finger against his chest. “In your twisted mind, you still think you can use our daughter to control my personal life. You thought if you caused a big enough scene, I would leave Leo and run back home with you. That’s why you followed me here, isn’t it?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Her voice rose with frustration.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“And stop using Maggie to manipulate me! She was perfectly fine when I left for the hospital. So what exactly are you trying to prove here, Brandon?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Our daughter is lying on a hospital bed fighting for her life.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Not this again…”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Now that you’ve finished with Jake’s problems, how about you focus on your own problems?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Which is what? You?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“No,” Brandon smiled faintly. “I’m the least of your problems. Right now, our daughter is coughing up blood and in the emergency ward, while you stand here worrying about someone else’s child.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra scoffed immediately, shaking her head in disbelief. “Do you really expect me to believe this again?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“If I’m lying, Lyra, then how about we prove it right now?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“What are you saying?”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Our daughter is in the next room, Lyra,” Brandon said quietly. “If you think I’m lying, then come with me. Open that door and see the truth for yourself. Maggie is lying in that hospital bed right now, hooked up to machines with blood still on her clothes. If you still think I’m lying after seeing her, then I’ll never say another word about it again.”

  • I'M DEEPLY SORRY, YOUNG MASTER

The heavy silence inside the lobby was so thick that even the soft pattern of rain against the glass roof could be heard clearly.A dozen security guards slowly advanced, their metal batons sliding free with sharp clacking sounds. They surrounded Brandon from every direction, their tense expressions making it obvious they were ready to attack at the slightest command."You're still acting arrogant, huh?" the manager asked with a deep frown.Brandon merely hummed."I haven't said anything arrogant," he replied calmly. "Just let me go upstairs, and this will end peacefully."The manager's expression darkened."How dare you talk back to me?" She snapped. "Have you forgotten your place? Is it because I've been speaking to you too politely?"One of the security guards stepped forward and cracked his knuckles."Allow me, Manager," he said with a cold grin. "I'll crack his head open and make sure he never talks back again."The manager stood behind the wall of guards, a satisfied smile sprea

Unaware of the storm brewing around him, Brandon pushed through the glass doors and stepped back into the hotel from the rain.He shook the water from his jacket and adjusted his grip on the small paper bag containing the medicine. His wet boots left faint tracks across the polished marble floor as he headed toward the elevators.Brandon never noticed the man standing partially hidden behind a massive marble pillar near the entrance.George remained in the shadows, his eyes fixed on Brandon's retreating figure.Shock flickered across h

  • BRING HIM TO ME

Inside the suite on the thirteenth floor, Brandon had just placed a glass of water on the nightstand when a soft groan drifted from the bed.He paused and glanced over his shoulder. The woman stirred beneath the blankets, her brows knitted together in discomfort. However, not wanting to involve himself in her matters, Brandon turned toward the door, intending to leave and finally get some rest. But as he passed the bed, a small hand suddenly shot out and grabbed the fabric of his gray shirt. Her fingers clutched it tightly, almost desperately, as if she was afraid he would disappear the moment she let go.Her small hand held his shirt with all the strength left in her as she did not want to let him go."Don't go," she pleaded weakly, her eyes half-closed. "Please don't leave me alone in the dark. I feel sick... My stomach hurts." Her face twisted in pain. "It really hurts..."Brandon looked down at the hand gripping his sleeve. When he tried to gently pull her fingers away, she sudden

  • YOUNG MASTER GEORGE?

"Y-You... you're actually shouting at me?" The woman stared at him in disbelief. "Do you even know who I am?""I don't care," Brandon replied coldly. He leaned back in his chair, his expression completely indifferent."You're sitting in my room without my permission. You're drinking, talking endlessly, and disturbing my peace." His eyes met hers without the slightest hesitation. "So yes, I have every right to say whatever I want and raise my voice if I feel like it."For a moment, the room fell silent. The woman looked at him with tear-filled eyes, no one had ever spoken to her like that before. Most people either envied her wealth, wanted something from her family, or tried to curry favor with her by agreeing with everything she said. Some were so eager to gain her family's support that they would have happily nodded along to any nonsense she spoke.Throughout her life, she had heard the same words over and over again.People always told her that it was better to cry in a luxury car

  • AT LEAST TELL ME YOUR NAME

“What do I want?” The woman let out a soft laugh.“I think we have a long night ahead of us to figure that out.” She gestured toward the empty chair across from her. “Come, sit down and keep me company for a while.”She settled into the armchair beside the window, crossing her legs gracefully beneath her silk gown. Picking up the bottle, she poured red wine into two crystal glasses before extending one toward him.Brandon didn't take it.Instead, he walked over to the desk and pulled out the chair opposite her. Sitting down, he folded his arms across his chest and leaned back slightly. His expression remained cold and unreadable…. He didn't touch the wine, he didn't speak either. He simply watched her with quiet, emotionless eyes. The woman did not seem to mind that Brandon did not take the wine. She took a gulp of the wine using it to help her talk. A sad smile was on her lips as she looked at the glass."You probably think I'm some crazy woman who likes playing games," the woman sai

  • I'M TIRED

The room on the fourteenth floor of the Grand Horizon Hotel was shrouded in darkness. The only light came from the pale moon shining through the floor-to-ceiling window.Brandon sat motionless on the edge of the bed. He had removed his boots and changed into a simple gray T-shirt and loose trousers. His hands rested on his knees, and his eyes remained fixed on the wall ahead. On the nightstand beside him, his phone kept vibrating.Again…. And again…. And again. The screen lit up the dark room every few seconds, displaying the same name over and over.LYRA.The constant buzzing echoed through the silence, yet Brandon never reached for the phone. He didn't even glance at it.He simply sat there, staring blankly ahead as the calls continued to come one after another."It doesn't matter anymore," Brandon murmured to himself, his voice was flat and emotionless. There was no anger left, no sadness, and no resentment. In his mind, he was already done with Lyra. The room at the Grand Horizon
