The hospital corridor was really quiet. It felt like something was about to snap.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;"> Lyra looked down the hallway where Brandon was pointing.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She saw the doors and suddenly felt unsure. For a moment the coldness in Brandon's voice got to her.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Then Jake stepped in.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He looked toward Lyra, a faint look of guilt and sadness crossing his face.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Lyra… go with Brandon,” he said quietly. “Go see your daughter. Go home with your husband if that’s what he wants. Please don’t let me and Leo become the reason your marriage falls apart. We’ll manage somehow on our own.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He lowered his eyes before adding softly,

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;"> Ever since my divorce, Leo hasnt had a mother figure in his life. Sometimes he sees other children with their moms at the park, and it breaks my heart watching him pretend it doesnt bother him. I just didnt want him to feel alone while he was scared and hurting. Thats why I asked Lyra to stay with him for a while. I never meant to create problems between the two of you.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon let out a short laugh, though there was no humor in it.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Do you practice speeches like this in front of a mirror, Jake?” He asked coldly.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra’s expression darkened immediately.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Brandon, stop it!” she snapped angrily, “I’m tired of your stupid jealousy!

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She turned her back on him without hesitation.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“Come on, Jake,” Lyra said softly as she reached for Leo’s hand. “Let’s take Leo back to his room so he can rest. Just ignore the noise.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake looked at Brandon one last time as he had a smile on his face. Then he followed Lyra back into the room. The door closed behind them.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon stood still in the hospital hallway. He looked at his hands and saw they were shaking a little. Then a sad smile came on his face.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">He was very angry before but now… he was not. He was very clear about what he had to do. He did not want to fight with Lyra. He just wanted to take care of Maggie, who was sick in the hospital.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Brandon turned around then walked back to Maggie's room. He walked firmly without looking back.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">***

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Inside the room the atmosphere was really different. The room was warm and cozy, filled with stuffed animals and plastic toys.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Leo was sitting on the hospital bed swinging his legs back and forth while eating an apple slice that Lyra had cut for him.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Mommy Lyra you are the best!" Leo said, leaning over to hug her waist as she sat on the edge of the mattress. "Your stories are way better than Daddy's. You always pick the best snacks."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra smiled, running her fingers through Leo's hair. She was still a little upset from the argument in the hall. She was trying to stay calm. "You just need to eat your food and listen to the doctor, Leo. No more getting sick?"

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Okay I promise!" Leo said, giggling. Then he stopped swinging his legs. He looked up at Lyra with big, pleading eyes. "Oh Mommy Lyra, my birthday party is coming in a week. We're going to have a cake shaped like a rocket ship and all my friends from school are coming. Can you please come to my party? You have to be there to help me blow out the candles!"

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">As soon as Leo said that, Lyra froze. Her hand stopped moving through his hair and her fingers got stiff. She was thinking about the date of the party. It was the same day as Maggie's seventh birthday.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">She remembered Brandon's face as he asked her to be with Maggie on her birthday.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Lyra felt a knot in her chest.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Before she could say anything Jake stepped in. He looked stern and angry as he talked to Leo. "Leo, stop being so demanding! You cannot just ask Auntie Lyra to do things for you like that. She is not really your mother! She was just being kind to us because we needed help."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake rubbed his forehead. "You need to know your place, son and stop asking for too much. We cannot keep bothering her."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"No! She is my mommy!" Leo cried, burying his face in his hands. "I don't want anyone! I want Mommy Lyra at my party! I want her to be there no matter what! Daddy please don't make her go away! I want her to come!"

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Seeing Leo cry made Lyra feel terrible. She turned to Jake. "Jake, stop it! Don't yell at him, he's a child who was sick an hour ago!" Lyra said, pulling Leo into her arms.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Leo looked up at her with tears in his eyes. "You... You'll come?"

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Yes I will find a way to attend your party I promise," Lyra said, smiling and wiping away his tears.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Leo stopped crying and nodded happily.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake was standing behind Lyra. A subtle, scheming smile played at the corner of his mouth.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">The cell phone in Jake's pocket started vibrating in the quiet bedroom. The moment he saw the caller ID on the screen the smile on his face disappeared. His heart started beating fast.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Lyra, I need to take this call," Jake said, trying to sound calm as he walked towards the door. "It is a call from an investor from another country."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Go ahead Jake, I will watch Leo," Lyra said, still fixing the pillows for Leo to rest.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">Jake walked out of the room quickly. He ran down the hallway, closed the door and put his cell phone to his ear, breathing hard.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"I told you not to call me during the day on my cell phone…" Jake started saying in a deep voice.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"Listen to me Jake," a mean voice said from the end of the line not letting Jake finish. "We are tired of waiting for our money. You need to pay back your debt now or you will be in big trouble."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">"I need a few more days," Jake pleaded, sweating and holding the stair railing. "Please, I am almost done. I have everything under control."

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“You’ve been feeding us the same excuse for six months, Jake,” the voice retorted coldly. “If we don’t receive every cent of our money within three days, we’ll expose everything. We’ll release the documents proving your fake companies, your hidden accounts, and every scam you’ve been running. Your reputation in this city will be destroyed overnight.”

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">The voice paused for a moment before continuing in a darker tone.

mso-line-height-alt:12pt;">“And once the police get involved, you’ll lose far more than your reputation. You’ll end up in prison.”

  • I'M DEEPLY SORRY, YOUNG MASTER

The heavy silence inside the lobby was so thick that even the soft pattern of rain against the glass roof could be heard clearly.A dozen security guards slowly advanced, their metal batons sliding free with sharp clacking sounds. They surrounded Brandon from every direction, their tense expressions making it obvious they were ready to attack at the slightest command."You're still acting arrogant, huh?" the manager asked with a deep frown.Brandon merely hummed."I haven't said anything arrogant," he replied calmly. "Just let me go upstairs, and this will end peacefully."The manager's expression darkened."How dare you talk back to me?" She snapped. "Have you forgotten your place? Is it because I've been speaking to you too politely?"One of the security guards stepped forward and cracked his knuckles."Allow me, Manager," he said with a cold grin. "I'll crack his head open and make sure he never talks back again."The manager stood behind the wall of guards, a satisfied smile sprea

"Lock the elevators.""Block access to every floor. No one gets near the thirteenth floor without authorization."The security personnel immediately sprang into action, speaking into their bluetooth speaker as they spread throughout the hotel.Within moments, additional guards took up positions near the elevators, stairwells, and hallway entrances, tightening security around the entire floor. The air in the hotel lobby got really thick all of a sudden. Unaware of the storm brewing around him, Brandon pushed through the glass doors and stepped back into the hotel from the rain.He shook the water from his jacket and adjusted his grip on the small paper bag containing the medicine. His wet boots left faint tracks across the polished marble floor as he headed toward the elevators.Brandon never noticed the man standing partially hidden behind a massive marble pillar near the entrance.George remained in the shadows, his eyes fixed on Brandon's retreating figure.Shock flickered across h

  • BRING HIM TO ME

Inside the suite on the thirteenth floor, Brandon had just placed a glass of water on the nightstand when a soft groan drifted from the bed.He paused and glanced over his shoulder. The woman stirred beneath the blankets, her brows knitted together in discomfort. However, not wanting to involve himself in her matters, Brandon turned toward the door, intending to leave and finally get some rest. But as he passed the bed, a small hand suddenly shot out and grabbed the fabric of his gray shirt. Her fingers clutched it tightly, almost desperately, as if she was afraid he would disappear the moment she let go.Her small hand held his shirt with all the strength left in her as she did not want to let him go."Don't go," she pleaded weakly, her eyes half-closed. "Please don't leave me alone in the dark. I feel sick... My stomach hurts." Her face twisted in pain. "It really hurts..."Brandon looked down at the hand gripping his sleeve. When he tried to gently pull her fingers away, she sudden

  • YOUNG MASTER GEORGE?

"Y-You... you're actually shouting at me?" The woman stared at him in disbelief. "Do you even know who I am?""I don't care," Brandon replied coldly. He leaned back in his chair, his expression completely indifferent."You're sitting in my room without my permission. You're drinking, talking endlessly, and disturbing my peace." His eyes met hers without the slightest hesitation. "So yes, I have every right to say whatever I want and raise my voice if I feel like it."For a moment, the room fell silent. The woman looked at him with tear-filled eyes, no one had ever spoken to her like that before. Most people either envied her wealth, wanted something from her family, or tried to curry favor with her by agreeing with everything she said. Some were so eager to gain her family's support that they would have happily nodded along to any nonsense she spoke.Throughout her life, she had heard the same words over and over again.People always told her that it was better to cry in a luxury car

  • AT LEAST TELL ME YOUR NAME

“What do I want?” The woman let out a soft laugh.“I think we have a long night ahead of us to figure that out.” She gestured toward the empty chair across from her. “Come, sit down and keep me company for a while.”She settled into the armchair beside the window, crossing her legs gracefully beneath her silk gown. Picking up the bottle, she poured red wine into two crystal glasses before extending one toward him.Brandon didn't take it.Instead, he walked over to the desk and pulled out the chair opposite her. Sitting down, he folded his arms across his chest and leaned back slightly. His expression remained cold and unreadable…. He didn't touch the wine, he didn't speak either. He simply watched her with quiet, emotionless eyes. The woman did not seem to mind that Brandon did not take the wine. She took a gulp of the wine using it to help her talk. A sad smile was on her lips as she looked at the glass."You probably think I'm some crazy woman who likes playing games," the woman sai

  • I'M TIRED

The room on the fourteenth floor of the Grand Horizon Hotel was shrouded in darkness. The only light came from the pale moon shining through the floor-to-ceiling window.Brandon sat motionless on the edge of the bed. He had removed his boots and changed into a simple gray T-shirt and loose trousers. His hands rested on his knees, and his eyes remained fixed on the wall ahead. On the nightstand beside him, his phone kept vibrating.Again…. And again…. And again. The screen lit up the dark room every few seconds, displaying the same name over and over.LYRA.The constant buzzing echoed through the silence, yet Brandon never reached for the phone. He didn't even glance at it.He simply sat there, staring blankly ahead as the calls continued to come one after another."It doesn't matter anymore," Brandon murmured to himself, his voice was flat and emotionless. There was no anger left, no sadness, and no resentment. In his mind, he was already done with Lyra. The room at the Grand Horizon
