“Your daughter has been crying for you for the last two hours, Lyra.”
The hospital corridor was really quiet. It felt like something was about to snap. Lyra looked down the hallway where Brandon was pointing. She saw the doors and suddenly felt unsure. For a moment the coldness in Brandon's voice got to her. She stopped breathing. Then Jake stepped in. He let go of Lyra's shoulder then took a step towards Brandon. He put his hands up like he was saying sorry. His face showed how sorry and sad he was. "Brandon, look at me," Jake said softly. "I know why you are mad at me. If I were you I would be mad too. I would feel that way if I saw another man close to my wife. Leo and I have caused so many problems for you and Lyra today. We made things tense between you two." Brandon did not move. He just kept staring at Jake with hard eyes clenching his fists like he wanted to punch him. He watched Jake talk like he was performing. “I was terrified when Leo started crying in pain this morning,” Jake continued calmly as he looked down at his son. “Ever since my divorce, Leo hasn’t had a mother figure in his life. Sometimes he sees other children with their moms at the park, and it breaks my heart watching him pretend it doesn’t bother him.” Jake swallowed hard before continuing. “I just didn’t want him to feel alone while he was scared and hurting. That’s why I asked Lyra to stay with him for a while. I never meant to create problems between the two of you.” Then Jake slowly looked toward Lyra, a faint look of guilt and sadness crossing his face. “Lyra… go with Brandon,” he said quietly. “Go see your daughter. Go home with your husband if that’s what he wants. Please don’t let me and Leo become the reason your marriage falls apart.” He lowered his eyes before adding softly, “We’ll manage somehow on our own.” Brandon let out a short laugh, though there was no humor in it. “Do you practice speeches like this in front of a mirror, Jake?” Brandon asked coldly, his eyes filled with anger. “You’re really good at pretending to be the selfless father sacrificing everything for his son. But in reality, all you’re doing is trying to make me look like the villain.” His jaw tightened as he stared directly at Jake. “You want everyone to think I’m some heartless husband trying to drag his wife away from a sick child. It’s manipulative, Jake. And worst of all? It’s fake.” Lyra’s expression darkened immediately. “Brandon, stop it!” she snapped angrily as she stepped in front of Jake protectively. “How can you speak to him like this after everything he’s done for us? You’re not exactly a good person yourself.” Brandon let out a quiet laugh, though there was no humor in it. “I’m not a good person?” he repeated coldly. His eyes slowly shifted toward the end of the hallway before returning to Lyra. “Lyra… our daughter is waiting for you down that hallway.” “I’m tired of the lies you keep telling about Maggie, Brandon,” she snapped, her eyes filled with anger and disgust. “Just look at the difference between you and Jake. For the last six months, Jake has worked himself to exhaustion for my company. He sacrificed his weekends, his nights, and all his energy just to help keep my business afloat.” Her voice trembled with frustration as she continued. “He was so busy helping me and carrying this company on his back that he barely even had time to take care of his own son. That’s why Leo got sick in the first place. Because Jake was too busy helping us.” She pointed a trembling finger at Brandon’s chest, breathing heavily with anger and frustration. “It’s only fair for me to help Jake and his family when they need me after everything they’ve done for us.” Brandon did not move her hand away. His eyes slowly lowered to the finger pressed against his chest before lifting back to Lyra’s face. For seven years, he had loved this woman with everything he had. “What about your own family, Lyra?” he asked quietly. “What family are you talking about, Brandon?” Lyra let out a bitter laugh, her voice filled with anger and disappointment. “The family where I’m the one carrying everything alone?” She pointed at him accusingly. “Compared to Jake, who actually works hard and supports me, what do you even do? You stay home, clean the house, and take care of basic things anyone could do. You’ve never helped my career, my reputation, or my company. You’ve never brought opportunities or connections into my life. All you ever do is criticize me and make me feel like I’m some terrible person.” She paused to catch her breath, her lips trembling with emotion. “And now you’re using our six-year-old daughter to manipulate me into coming home by giving up on everything I'm building with my own efforts?” Her eyes reddened with anger and disbelief. “You actually made up an illness just to win an argument against me. Honestly, Brandon… I’m really disappointed in you.” Lyra didn’t wait for Brandon to respond. She didn’t even glance toward the hallway where Maggie’s room was. Instead, she turned her back on him without hesitation. “Come on, Jake,” Lyra said softly as she reached for Leo’s hand. “Let’s take Leo back to his room so he can rest. Just ignore the noise.”Latest Chapter
I LOVE YOU DADDY!
“You'll regret this!” Brandon realized then that there was no time left to argue with her anymore.Maggie’s breathing was growing weaker in his arms.Without another word, he opened the car door and stepped out onto the side of the highway while holding Maggie tightly against his chest. The moment both of them were outside, Lyra slammed the door shut and sped away without looking back.Brandon was alone on the side of the road. The sun was beating down on him. Cars were driving by fast. No one stopped to help.Brandon looked down at Maggie in terror. She was growing weaker with every passing second, her tiny body trembled faintly in his arms, and each breath she took sounded softer than the last.“Daddy…” Maggie whispered weakly, her small fingers barely gripping his shirt.“I’m here, baby,” Brandon replied immediately, his voice breaking as he tightened his hold around her fragile body. “Daddy’s right here. I’m going to get you to the hospital, okay? Just hold on a little longer for
GET OUT OF MY CAR
“You planned all of this, didn’t you?” Lyra snapped furiously, her voice trembling with anger and disbelief. “You knew Jake and Leo were staying at the house. You knew how important today was for my business, so you used Maggie to drag me away from Leo’s party.”Her eyes burned with disgust as she stared at Brandon.“You told her to pretend to be sick because you couldn’t stand seeing me happy with someone else.” Her voice turned colder with every word. “You’re so pathetic that you’d even use your own daughter just to manipulate me.”Brandon stared at Lyra in complete disbelief, his bloodshot eyes wide with shock and heartbreak. For seven years, he had loved this woman with everything he had, but at that moment, as he looked into her cold eyes while their daughter struggled to breathe in his arms, a chilling realization settled deep inside his heart. The woman standing in front of him was no longer the Lyra he thought he knew.“She’s fighting for her life, Lyra,” Brandon said hoarsely
DON'T LET HER DIE!
“I... I’m working on it right now,” Jake said quietly as he glanced nervously toward the living room where Leo was playing. “The papers are ready. Lyra already has them, and her financial team is reviewing the accounts this morning. She’s supposed to sign everything this afternoon. Just give me a few more hours… please.”A dark chuckle echoed from the other end of the line.“We don’t want your excuses or your hours, Jake,” the voice replied coldly. “And don’t insult us by pretending you still have control of the situation. We already know you’ve been lying.”The man paused briefly before his tone turned even darker.“If we don’t get our money by the end of today, we’ll come to your house ourselves. We’ll break every bone in your body, strip you for whatever organs still have value, and then we’ll take your son as interest on your debt.”A chilling silence followed. “Do you understand me now, Jake?”“No… please don’t touch my son,” Jake begged desperately, his voice trembling with fear
AN EMERGENCY?
“Happy Birthday, Maggie!” The Mickey Mouse mascot cheered warmly as he walked toward her and handed her a beautiful bouquet of roses. The bright morning sun bathed the amusement park in warm golden light, making everything around it look cheerful and alive.Colourful music drifted from the nearby carousel while children ran across the pathways holding giant sticks of pink cotton candy, laughing and pointing excitedly toward the rollercoasters towering above them. But Maggie wasn’t looking at any of the rides. She sat quietly on a bench beside Brandon, her small hands resting weakly in her lap while her favorite teddy bear leaned silently against her chest.Unlike usual, she wasn’t hugging it tightly. Her face looked frighteningly pale beneath the sunlight, almost translucent, and her lips carried a faint bluish tint.Brandon knelt down in front of her, his eyes filled with worry as he carefully studied her pale little face. Earlier, he had bought her a balloon, bunny shaped cotton can
THE SCAM BEHIND THE SMILE
"Yes! Thank you Mommy!" A big smile came back to Maggie's face.Brandon looked at his wife one last time. He felt really disappointed in Lyra. She was like a stranger who didn't deserve to be called a mom.He took Maggie's hand and turned toward the front door. He didn't look at the balloons or the gold banners."Let's go, Maggie," Brandon said, his voice smooth and empty. As he gripped the door handle he looked back at Lyra. She was standing close to Jake again."Don't worry, Lyra," Brandon stated quietly, his voice cold enough to make the room feel colder. "Maggie and I are leaving now. From this moment on, neither of us will ever stand in the way of the life you clearly want."His eyes lingered on Jake standing beside her before returning to Lyra."But remember one thing," Brandon continued. "You promised Maggie that you'd come see her tomorrow. So keep your promise for once."His hand tightened around Maggie’s small fingers."Because after tomorrow… Neither she nor I will ask anyt
WHY DO I HAVE TO LEAVE?
“Mommy,” Maggie said, her voice trembling softly. “This is my home. It’s not Leo’s house. Why do I have to leave? Why do I have to celebrate my birthday somewhere else?”She stood near the edge of the decorated carpet, clutching her teddy bear tightly against her chest. Her tiny knuckles had turned white from how hard she was holding it. Slowly, her tearful eyes moved from the golden birthday banners to the bright blue balloon Leo had snatched from her earlier… before finally lifting toward her mother. The question was simple and painfully innocent. The moment Maggie spoke, Leo’s eyes widened in shock. He immediately let go of Lyra’s hand and stumbled back as tears burst from his eyes. Covering his face with both hands, he broke into loud sobs, his small shoulders shaking violently while he stomped his feet against the floor.“See, Daddy?! She’s bullying me!” Leo cried through his tears, his small shoulders shaking violently. “She’s only being mean to me because I don’t have a mommy!
