Chapter 005

Feeling refreshed after his bath, Lamar's energy gushed, ready to set his plans. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he began to plan.

"I need to make a perfect plan, a plan no one would suspect," he muttered to himself. "And I must take over Dad's company. But first, I need to find out the people that killed Mom and Dad."

First, he thought about investigating clues about the properties his parents might have left behind. Then, he considered reaching out to old family friends for information.

"But how do I get into Dad's company without raising suspicion?" Lamar pondered aloud.

Suddenly, an idea struck him. "Yes! I'll apply as a janitor!" he exclaimed.

"That's a risky move," cautioned his inner voice. "But it might just work," he replied confidently.

With his plan in place, Lamar felt he was close to getting back his inheritance and making those who had made him suffer pay dearly.

It was late and Lamar needed to sleep. Tomorrow will be a crucial day for him and he has to mentally be strong enough to handle it.

The next day……

Lamar woke with great joy but was nervous. Today was an important day for him and he had to be careful not to mess it up.

He took a pen and paper out of his bag and began to write an application letter. He wasn't so good with it but eventually, he was able to write a meaningful application.

“Yes! This is perfect,” Lamar, exclaims happily. Kissed the paper, grabbed the envelope, and folded the letter inside it.

Having finished with the most important, Lamar proceeded to the bathroom. He quickly freshened up and got dressed in rag-looking clothes.

He wanted to make sure that he was seen as hopeless and desperate. He walked across the mirror and stared at himself.

“Lamar, you’ve suffered enough, you’ve been treated poorly and judged. Now is the time to reclaim all that which is yours. You’ll fight to the finish and No relenting This fight is a fight to Finish. I know Dad and Mom would be proud. Go and succeed.” he urged his reflection.

********************

In his ragged clothes, Lamar ventured out, drawing curious stares from passersby. Some whispered among themselves, while others openly stared, feeling pity, judgmental, and disgust.

But their expression was Lamar didn't care. His eyes and focus were just on what he came to do.

Ignoring the whispers and stares, Lamar hired a ride and headed to the empire—the place where his father's company stood tall.

Arriving at the company, Lamar's appearance sparked murmurs among the employees. "Who's that guy? He looks like he's down on his luck," one whispered.

As Lamar approached Mr Andrew’s office, the CEO of the company, as directed by one of the staff. he braced himself for the insults and mockery he knew would come. "What are you doing here, boy?" his father-in-law sneered. Immediately Lamar popped his head into his office.

He was surprised to see Lamar. He actually thought it was an important person. He hissed, stamped his hands on the table, and yelled. “Don't stand there looking at me like an idiot, why are you here? You worthless…boy,”

Acting frightened, Lamar began to stammer. “S…sorry, for barging into your office. I.. I didn't know what to do. Please, Mr. Andrew, I've come here to look for a job as a janitor.”

"You think you can just waltz in here and get a job looking like that?" Mr. Andrew pouted.

But Lamar remained calm. "Please, I can do the job very well. Please Mr. Andrew help me. I need this job to survive. Please help me.” he replied calmly.

The room erupted in laughter, but Lamar stood his ground. "I may not look strong but I'm willing to work hard and prove myself," he declared.

Mr. Andrew laughed derisively. "You? Do the job well? Ha! You’re just worthless and can never do anything right in your life. Victoria did a great job leaving you. She made a smart decision to get away from a loser like you."

Lamar felt the sting of the insult, but he didn’t let it get to him. "I understand your doubts, sir. But I'm willing to work hard and prove myself," he said calmly.

Despite the initial doubt and ridicule, Lamar had almost succeeded in his mission. He had taken the first step towards reclaiming his family's legacy.

Mr. Andrew scoffed, still not fully convinced, although he would love to humiliate everyone, and remind him how unfortunate and useless he was.

Knowing what Mr Andrew was capable of doing, Lamar knew that Mr. Andrew hated him and never ceased to insult him at every chance he got, and this job was his perfect daily chance.

Mr. Andrew gazed at Lamar with a smirk on his face. As he was gazing, Lamar pressed on. “I can do this job, sir. This is the only way I can survive.”

“Shut your dirty mouth and listen! Mr. Andrew barked. I’ll give you this job, but if you ever embarrass this empire, I’ll make you regret ever knowing me or my family.” He warned, his tone sounding deadly serious.

Lamar swallowed hard, nodding. “Yes, Mr. Andrew. I won't let you down,” Lamar promised.

Mr. Andrew nodded disgustingly and dismissed Lamar with a wave of his hands. As Lamar walked to the door, he knew it was the beginning of many things to come.
