The bar was dimly lit, and the smell of stale beer and old smoke hung thick in the air. It wasn’t the kind of place Gerald would’ve stepped into a few months ago, not when he had power, status, and a future carved out for him. But now, all of that was gone.

He sat hunched over a scratched wooden counter, fingers loosely wrapped around a half-empty glass of whiskey.

The bartender, a middle-aged man with tired eyes, glanced over but knew better than to ask questions. Gerald had been there for hours, ordering drink after drink, each one a weak attempt to quiet the storm inside him.

His father’s company, his legacy, had crumbled like dry plaster. Everything he had worked for, fought for, and schemed for was all gone. And worse, he had been asked to sell his apartment and move back into his family’s house.

He couldn’t shake the unease feeling within, he couldn’t comprehend how he went from being a millionaire in the morning to being a broke as* dude by night.
