Chapter 1
“I told you, I don't want to get married to you. That was why I called off the engagement.” Monica said firmly. Austin couldn't believe his eyes, he thought she was playing a prank on him. So he had to come over to her office to know if the message he saw was real. “But you know, your father wanted us to get married. It was his last wish.” Austin muttered. “That was then, but now he is no more. And I can't get married because that's his last wish. We aren't meant for each other. Can't you see the picture? You are just a local Doctor from the street. Look around you.” She said. “Darkness and light have nothing in common. I have someone I love and would love to get married to. Not you, Austin, over my dead body. Will that ever happen?” Austin Davis and Monica Raymond were supposed to get married a long time ago, Mr. Graham Raymond wanted the marriage to push through after Austin saved his life from poison. The marriage was halted after the death of Graham. It's been two months

But when Ruddy caught it. He shot her a deadly glare. “Stop it.” He then turned to the guards. “Take her out of her and make sure she doesn't return to the mansion.” He commands. Without hesitation, the guards obliged, dragging her out of the room. Austin witnessed the incident, and he then walked towards Mr. Zachary. Placing his hands on his warm chest. “Your master was poisoned. And he doesn't have enough time.” “Poison! How?” Ruddy gasped in extreme shock. “What should we do. What do you need, name your price.” Austin shook his head, “I need some of your men to leave, three of you would be good..” He said with his voice barely above a whisper. Ruddy averted his gaze. “You Heard him.” The men exchanged glances as they all left Austin, Ruddy and two other guards. Austin exhaled softly, as he watched his hand in the bowl in the middle of the room. He exhaled slowly; Austin had spent years learning this technique from his previous master. He reached into his satchel and pull

Austin hesitated for a moment, “Yes, let her have it.” He replied. “Okay,” The chairman said before the line went dead. The chairman returned to the office, he sat down and brought out a contract from the drawer. “Ms, Monica, we are offering the contract.” Monica's eyes widened in disbelief; a while ago, she was scared and worried, but now she has been assigned the contract, which seems impossible. When she left the office and made her way to Gerald's car. She kept a calm demeanor. Upon seeing her, Gerald felt his heart pounding in his chest. “How was it?” he asked calmly. She hugged him, as her face filled with excitement. “I got the contract.” She blurted out. “Really.” He looked shocked but fainted a smile. “How did she do that?” He thought. “Thank you, so much. I really appreciate it. I think you should call your dad. I need to thank him.” Monica was still excited that she didn't notice how uneasy he felt. “Oh, no. Forget about it, it's nothing.” She shr

“There is no need, I don't want to be a sissy like him. He should be the one asking for my help, not the other way round.” Austin blurted out sarcastically. They were all shocked by his audacity; how dare he talk to the son of Mr. Benson in such a manner. The lawyer made a light cough, all eyes averted towards him. As the room fell into a deep silence. “You have done your part and permit me to do mine.” He uttered. “You heard what is written in the will, so the decision is left for Monica and Austin.” Monica's blood was boiling, while Austin kept a calm demeanor. She knew she would risk the chance of claiming everything her father left for her if she refused to get married to Austin. Austin couldn't fathomed why Mr. Graham made such a decision. He is not ready to get married and wouldn't force Monica if she refuses. “I can't.” Monica stood her ground. There is no way she would agree to get married to Austin. “You heard her,” Austin glanced at his wristwatch. “If you d

The crowd laughed at Austin, “He doesn't have a car. Quit acting and ask for forgiveness.” The old man nodded, “But you have to be careful; this is a race, not a birthday party.” “I understand, don't worry,” Austin said firmly. “You should place a bet on me.” The old man couldn't help but wonder where Austin got his confidence from. The race was set up quickly and the two of them made their way to the track. The shiny Mustang revved its engine, a deep growl of power that sent Vibrations through the ground, while James was in a beat-up, old car. The crowd couldn't help but snicker at the disparity between the two vehicles. Austin ignored the whispers; he knew he didn't need a fancy car to prove a point; he wanted a car. He could immediately send a message to his butler, and the best sports car would be brought to him. What mattered was his skill and determination. As the race began Jude shot off like a bullet. While Austin has a different approach. He didn't reply on

Austin was impatient; Charlie wasn’t back home, unlike him. He had tried reaching out to him and all to no avail, His mind reeling with several thoughts. He made a few orders, it was Charlie’s birthday, and Austin wanted to make it remarkable for him. Both had stayed together for almost a decade. The door swung open as Charlie walked inside looking exhausted. Austin informed him to get dressed, which he obliged and joined him as they made their way to the surprise location Austin had refused to talk about. Both were dressed in a casual outfit. They arrived at the restaurant, it was a grand, opulent and dazzling chandelier hanging from the ceiling, waiters in sharp uniforms moving swiftly Austin and Charlie walked through the plush dining area, passing extravagant tables with elegant guests. Austin gave Charlie an encouraging smile. “Happy birthday Charlie. Tonight, you are in for a treat. Order whatever you want.” Austin said grinning. Charlie’s eyes widened in surpris

Monica’s face turned pale as she looked up, realising who the men were. Gerald was shocked to see Victor’s men; he knew he didn’t have any business with them and wondered why they came. But something in him struck when he saw Austin smiling and enjoying his meal with Charlie. He thought about using Victor’s men against Austin. What a coincidence? The thug didn’t bother looking at Gerald because they came for a reason. “Come with us, Ms. Monica.” “What for?” Monica asked. “What have I done?” “Can’t you see I am having a good time with her, and can’t you show some respect. I am a Benson and I demand you show us some respect.” Gerald uttered, with his shoulder raised. The thug glared at Gerald, “We know and that doesn’t scare us. We aren’t here for you; we have been asked to come with her; our boss wants to see you.” Gerald stood from his chair; this was his opportunity to show his authority as a member of the Benson's family. “Why does your boss want to see her?” “Her mot

They all averted their gaze towards the voice; the thugs were shocked; the Presence of the figure was commanding and not even their boss would stand tall when someone like Ryan Daniel was. They trembled in fear. “Mr. Ryan,” one of the thugs said calmly. “Let them go,” Ryan said as he stepped forward with his men standing behind him. Victor was no match for Ryan, not even the Bensons or any other families in the city. Mr Ryan is known to be the richest man in the city and is feared by the underground bosses as well. No one messes with him, and he stands to see the next day, with just a phone call, Victor or anyone would vanish from Earth. “Our boss demanded that we come with her.” One of the thugs managed to spill. Ryan raised his brow, “She is my business partner and I can’t allow you to take her in such a manner. Whatever business she has with Victor should be settled amicably.” The thug tried to touch Austin, and Ryan’s face turned red. “Don’t you dare?” He warned,

Monica stormed into the living room, with her face flushed with anger. Her heart was pounding, and her mind was spinning with the realization of what almost happened. Mrs Sarah sat on the couch, unsure of what to say to her daughter when their gaze met. She knew Monica was mad at her, but she was her mother, and her daughter was not supposed to be. “Mom,” Monica shouted, her voice was sharp and dangerous. “Why would you? Do you have any idea what almost happened to me? Do you have any clue how close I was to being taken away by those me? Do you know how embarrassed I was when I was dragged out of the restaurant?” Her mother didn't fly; she didn't look at Mon, who was ranting. Mrs. Sarah took the magazine from the desk, flipping through the pages, rustling like they held her answers. “I didn't do anything? It was just a misunderstanding.” Mrs Sarah muttered, not bothering to make eye contact. “You didn't? What nonsense misunderstanding.” Monica countered, as her hands balled

“Of course, I did call him. If you have any doubts, I can call him now if you want.”She waved her hand dismissively, “Never mind, it’s fine.” Gerald heaved a sigh of relief, he was almost caught again. How long would he keep on with his fake plays?First, he was lying that his dad helped her secure a contract and again was claiming he called Mr. Ryan Daniels when Victor’s men wanted to take her away. When they arrived at Jerold enterprise, Monica glanced at her mirror for the last time before stepping out of the car.“Thank you. You can go back, I don’t know how long the meeting with the manager would last. I wouldn’t want to be a burden to you, I will find my way home.” She uttered politely.“You should give me a call when you are done,” Gerald intoned.Monica nodded, as she turned to face the tall building. She took a deep breath as she ambled towards the entrance. She made her way to the conference room, where she found Christopher and Winifred, two of her most trusted staff mem
