Chapter 10 - New Skill

"Could it get any worse?"

With his higher stats, Ethan eyed the five Mutant Wolves with reduced average levels, noting they were not in the best shape. Another fight could prove detrimental to their condition. 

As such, he tried convincing himself that he could take all five on, so long as he could dodge any lethal strikes. 

He had previously stored the Hammer in his Inventory for easier mobility, aiming to take out the weakest Monster first. 

He would approach one of them, slowly walking forward while keeping an eye on the other four.

"I'll be able to handle this one."

Without hesitation, he sprinted toward one of them, with the other Monsters hot on his trail.

Ethan was unaccustomed to his new running speed, causing him to lose his balance and stumble right in front of one of the Mutant Wolves. By chance, the Hammer had been returned to his hands, and before the Mutant Wolf could lunge, he swiftly threw a punch into its jaw. 

"Nice!"

The blow knocked the monster back, and Ethan wasted no time throwing another blow.

The Mutant Wolf collapsed to the ground, and Ethan sprung up, clenching his teeth and fervently aiming to finish it off with his next strike. 

The blow landed directly on its head, and the Mutant Wolf's jaw and face were instantly pulverized.

Ethan felt a rush of joy. He had killed a Monster.

Another Mutant Wolf lunged from behind, and before impact, Ethan swiftly sidestepped, causing the initial Mutant Wolf to collide with the storefront, shattering the glass and propelling it inside. 

The other two Mutant Wolves also pursued. He then tightened his hold on the Hammer and attempted to hurl it at the oncoming duo, hoping to take them both out. 

“HAMMER THROW!” 

The Hammer flew through the air and struck one of the Mutant Wolfs, instantly sending it into a disintegrating death. A large explosion of dust and debris erupted, blocking his view.

He was now level 4.

"You can't die yet!"

The third and final Mutant Wolf pounced on him, but he had anticipated this move and swiftly rolled on the floor, avoiding the attack.

A powerful leap from another Mutant Wolf startled Ethan, who reflexively lifted his left arm in a bid to repel the incoming claws. Unfortunately, the paralysis that had afflicted his left arm had rendered it too weak to defend him, and its claws clawed Ethan's chest, leaving a deep, painful gash. 

"GURK!" Ethan was thrown back from the force of the strike and attempted to flee despite the searing pain in his chest.

His arm had been mostly severed, and the heat coming from the wound on his chest made it difficult for him to breathe. In an effort to survive, Ethan hastily allocated one of his new stats to Stamina, hoping to acquire enough energy and willpower to take down the remaining three Mutant Wolves.

Ethan fled once more, aiming to buy some time until the Hammer was back in his grasp.

His HP had recovered slightly, but the pain in his chest prevented him from moving freely.

The three remaining Mutant Wolves were closing in on him. One getting dangerously close; just as it leaped forward to attack, he dodged to the side, causing the Mutant Wolf to collide with a car, smashing part of the glass and denting the bodywork. The car shook, and the sound of metal tearing apart could be heard.

The Hammer reappeared in his hands immediately. He threw a blow at the Mutant Wolf in front of him, sending it flying backward several meters.

Before ending the Mutant Wolf's life, Ethan opted to eliminate another one that was approaching first. 

He unleashed a “HAMMER THROW!”.

The Monster was flung backward, crashing into the wall of a nearby building and falling on its back. 

Ethan swiftly hurled his Hammer at the fleeing Mutant Wolf. His strike was incredibly successful, draining a considerable amount of Energy for just one throw. 

If he could keep this up, he was certain he could vanquish all the Mutant Wolves he faced.

'Okay, only two remain!' 

Another Mutant Wolf galloped forward while the one that had been downed near him was now standing in a dire state.

Ethan quickly put the Hammer back into the Inventory, then sprinted towards the nearest Mutant Wolf, delivering a powerful blow to its jaw, which was now partly shattered. Unaware of the strength of his strikes, Ethan had caused considerable harm to the Wolf. After that, he leaped again, delivering a few more blows.

The last Mutant Wolf finally succumbed to his blows, leaving Ethan to stand over the dead bodies of the three monsters.

Unbeknownst to him, his blows were quite effective, dealing considerable damage to his opponent. And then he jumped up again, kicking and giving a few more hits.

A few seconds later, the Mutant Wolf facing him succumbed to the same fate as its comrades. 

Only one remained, and it lunged at him. 

He evaded the attack, zigzagging to the side and jumping in a different direction, constantly attempting to evade. 

It took a while for the Hammer to come to his hand, and at that moment that felt both short and everlasting, he had to keep his concentration. One misstep on his part and the chance of dying would be substantial. 

Ethan sprinted towards the car parked on the street, his pace resembling that of a professional athlete. Despite this, the Mutant Wolf still managed to keep up with him.

Ethan quickly dodged to the side, tumbling across the asphalt as the Mutant Wolf lunged for him. 

In one swift move, he had the Hammer back in hand. The Mutant Wolf leaped towards him, who found himself with no time to spare. 

He hurled the Hammer at the incoming creature, shouting, "HAMMER THROW!!!" 

The Hammer narrowly missed the Mutant Wolf, who was just about to pounce on him. After the throw, the Mutant Wolf was left in a dire state.

Ethan heaved himself up, seizing the Hammer. 

He then used it with vigorous intensity, smashing the Mutant Wolf one, two, and three times until its body disintegrated and faded from his view.
