The food was better now. Not good, but better. It came regularly. A tray slid into the cell every time he woke up, like someone, or something, knew his sleep cycle. Which was funny, considering he didn’t even know it himself anymore. There was no sunrise here. No clocks. Just… existence.

He ate it all. Grub and what looked like undercooked stake meat. It stank. It was greasy. Probably demon flesh. But he didn’t care. His stomach didn’t care. It was food. It kept him from falling apart. He chewed fast, eyes darting between bites like he was expecting someone to snatch it away but no one came except his paranoia.

He was alone. Just him and the walls.

The new cell was quieter than the last. The air didn’t choke him as much. It was dry, but not thick with ash. Still, it wasn’t safe. It wasn’t home, it was still a cage.

But something had changed.

He first noticed it while lying awake, staring at the ceiling. At first, it sounded like his own voice. A soft mutter, not quite words, but close

At the front of the hall, the woman in white robes — Professor Aelira — stood before a floating sphere of translucent light. Her presence was magnetic. Every movement she made carried a rhythm that bent the air. Her voice was calm, but each word struck like thunder wrapped in silk.“The Flame of Primordial Chaos,” she began again, her gaze sweeping across the few gathered students. “The first breath that existed before existence itself.”Kirin leaned forward, his curiosity sparked. Around him, the students took notes with trembling pens. None of them dared speak.Aelira gestured toward the light orb hovering before her. Within it, motes of gold and black energy clashed and intertwined. “Before the birth of the realms,” she said softly, “there was only the Void — endless, thoughtless, cold. And within it burned the first light — the Flame. It was not fire as you know it, but a sentience. A will that sought meaning in emptiness.”Kirin felt a strange resonance as she spoke. That same en

  • CHAPTER 280. The Flame of Primordial Chaos.

The morning wind was soft against his face as Kirin soared above the academy, his lightning aura leaving faint ripples through the air. He hadn’t flown like this before. Every movement of his body obeyed the subtle current of Qi that flowed within him. He could almost feel the rhythm of the wind responding to his will, the clouds parting as he passed through them like a silver blue streak. It wasn’t just flight. It was freedom. For the first time in what felt like forever, Kirin wasn’t running from something...be it pain, fear, weakness, or the monster inside him. He was just... moving. Weightless. Alive. The entire Indra Institute sprawled below like a sleeping beast—its towers gleaming under the newborn sun, the open fields where students sparred glowing faintly with leftover traces of lightning Qi, the majestic storm barrier surrounding the academy shimmering faintly with divine sigils. Every inch of it pulsed with energy and potential. And today, Kirin wanted to see it all from ab

  • CHAPTER 279. After the Storm.

The rain had stopped. For the first time in weeks, the skies above the Indra Institute were clear, the clouds parted to reveal a pale morning sun casting soft light over the academy’s spires. The storm outside had ceased, but the echoes of the festival, the chaos, the blood, the lightning scorched earth still lingered in the air. Kirin stepped out of his dormitory, the weight of the Celestial Refraction Pill still thrumming in his veins. Every step he took felt different, like the ground itself recognized the power now contained within him.Students paused in their morning routines. Conversations died mid sentence. A pair of Rank 3 students who had been sparring moments ago froze in place, their eyes widening as they noticed him.Kirin didn’t stop to bask in the attention. He lifted his hands instinctively, watching as tiny arcs of lightning danced across his fingers. A simple spark leapt from his palm to a nearby metal rail without a sound. The surge of energy felt different now. Bal

  • CHAPTER 278. The Pill.

Rain poured relentlessly over the Indra Institute that night, painting streaks of light across the glass panes of Kirin’s dorm room. The thunder outside rolled like a beast pacing beyond the clouds, and every so often, lightning flickered white, blue, and faintly black, almost mirroring the chaos pulsing within him.Kirin sat cross legged in the dim glow of a single lantern. On the table before him lay the golden pill, still gleaming faintly even after hours. It hummed softly, a sound too delicate for human ears yet one that every cultivator could feel. It was alive in its own strange way, like a captured storm waiting for release.Rem leaned against the wall, chewing on a dry biscuit that crumbled like gravel between his teeth. His usual sarcasm was subdued tonight. The air itself demanded silence.“You’re actually thinking of swallowing that thing,” he said finally, nodding toward the pill. “You know that’s not some candy, right? That’s a Celestial Refraction Pill. It’s said to bend

  • CHAPTER 277. The Rankings Revealed.

“The results,” the headmaster finally announced, “will now be revealed.”A hush fell over the hall. The banners overhead began to shift, glowing names appearing in radiant light. Each name pulsed with faint energy as if reacting to the bearer’s cultivation essence.“Starting from the Rank 3 Division!” the announcer’s voice echoed.Dozens of students leaned forward, breath held.Fiftieth, forty-ninth, thirty fifth, names were called, cheers rising here and there, others groaning when theirs weren’t heard. Then“Fifth place... Kirin Arcanus.”Silence. It spread like frost through the room. Heads turned. A thousand eyes found him instantly.Kirin didn’t flinch. He just stood there, staring ahead, emotionless. A few students whispered loudly.“Fifth?! That’s impossible.”“He’s a Rank 3! He’s barely been here for a month!”“Didn’t he almost fail his Qi control exam?”“He killed the Leviathan, didn’t he? That was him!”The headmaster’s gaze found Kirin briefly. A small smile flickered on hi

  • CHAPTER 276. Feast of Victory.

The grand hall of the Indra Institute had never looked so alive.Lightning chandeliers pulsed like beating hearts, shimmering arcs of gold and silver light snaking through the air. Music rolled through the marble corridors, the deep hum of storm drums mixed with the clear notes of flutes. Tables stretched endlessly across the hall, packed with food that steamed and crackled with faint sparks of energy. It was the Feast of Victory, a celebration of survival. And yet, as laughter and cheers filled the space, one person sat silent.Kirin.He was seated near the end of the hall, close enough to watch the crowd but far enough to be forgotten by it. He poked at his plate absentmindedly, roasted lightning boar, fruit wine, storm eel soup, delicacies that only appeared during this festival. He tasted none of it.Around him, the surviving students had shed their grief like a wet cloak. They laughed too loud, drank too much, and told stories about how they almost died but didn’t.A red haired g
