CHAPTER 4: Destiny Wants to Play

“BRO, WHAT HAPPENED?” Ben asked him with this exaggerated face that he wears all the time whenever he is bored with his life and wants to have some fun. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost or won some lottery right now. Get up from the floor. You look like shit, Bro—”

“I-I think I am!” Martin stammered but he didn't mind as he stood up on the ground after falling. His eyes still fixed from his phone like the moment that he gets his eyes away from the screen, the money will disappear too.

“What happened to your face?” Ben asks him again after rushing to his direction. “Who did this to you? Is this Lucas doings too? I heard what happened! He needs to pay for what—”

“I think I really won the lottery!” Martin said again to his friend.

Ben's eyebrows almost crossed as he looked at him. “Are you on drugs, Bro? Or someone really hit your skull that you ended like this?”

Ben puts his two hands to his waist while looking at him intently when he didn’t say anything because his eyes were still focussing on his phone.

“Can you slap my face, Ben?” Martin asked with a blank mind. He still wants to be sure that what he can see is true.

“Is this about Veronica, Bro?” Ben couldn’t help but ask him again. “I heard what happened from one of the bastard’s friends. He’s boasting to me that Veronica is one of Lucas’ girls and she didn’t mind because he has a lot of money that could be wasted! The snake!

Also, he said that Lucas is proud that he hit you a lot of times! What do you want me to do, dude? Do you want to avenge what happened to you? Or do you want to borrow money from me? Because I know that you will not accepted it if I just gave it to you for free—”

“I am not dreaming, I’m not under the influence of drugs or becoming crazy about what happened to me, Ben. Someone really sent ten million dollars to my account!” Martin wants Ben to see it for himself, that's why he handed over his phone. “Just look at my phone—”

“Bro, don’t try to change the topic. It’s not time to make a joke!” Ben puts his cellphone down on his study table without even taking a glance at it while scratching his hair like there’s a louse that needs to terminate there. “So, what really happened? I told you, sometimes you need to fight back! Your life will not change unless you do something about it!”

Martin looks at his friend with a confused look. On the other hand, Ben looks like his girlfriend is the one who’s cheating on him because he really looks pissed off which made Martin laugh a little.

“This is a serious matter!” Ben pointed out once again while restless. “Don’t laugh!”

Martin couldn’t help but observe his friend that he was secretly thankful for. Ben is one of his classmate slash roommates who’s taking business management too. Even if Ben came from a wealthy family, has the power that everyone knows of because their wealth came from the old money, his friend’s feet are still on the ground and didn’t treat him like garbage that they can step on whenever they want too. He also treats him as equal and not poor like others around his surroundings. From then until now, Ben still considers him a friend and that didn’t change for a bit even if they are graduating now.

“Hey, Bro! Are you listening?” Ben waves his hands near his eyes where he can cut off his thoughts. “Are you still with me? Earth to Martin!”

“I am serious, Bro!” Martin emphasized what he said. “There’s really ten million dollars on my account! Just check it for you to—”

Ben immediately checks his old phone after a glance of suspicion to his eyes.

Martin felt his heart were going to pop out at any moment while Ben was getting his phone. The moment that his friend checked if he was telling the truth, Ben ended up with a frown reaction and wanted to smack him.

“See! I am telling the truth, right?” Martin asked excitedly. “I am really not dreaming—”

“Your phone didn’t work, Bro. I think it’s broken!” Ben said to him. “Are you pranking me, Bro? Lol. Is this your new hobby now that you’re single?” He laughed at him while shaking his head. “You really got me there! Where’s the camera for the prank here? But, seriously, what happened to you and Lucas is a serious matter! That Veronica really knows how to get on my nerves!”

Martin gets his phone immediately from his friend and checks if he's not playing tricks on him. He was just so confused when his cell phone suddenly stopped working.

“You are pranking me right, Bro?” Ben laughed once again. “I didn’t know that you can be a great actor!”

He just looked at his old phone. He’s sure about what he saw! His eyes didn’t play tricks on him! But, what happened to his phone that didn't stop working suddenly? Is there really ten billion dollars on his account or did he just read it wrong and just spam?

“You’re serious, Bro?” Ben's eyes widened when he noticed that it’s really not a joke. “Then we need to go to the bank, Bro. We need to check if it is for real! That kind of money is too large that we need to be careful—”

“If it’s true that there’s really money on my account, who do you think is the one who will send it?” Martin asks his friend while looking at his broken phone. “They are not too idiot to make a mistake like this, right?”

Both of them went silent and thought about every possibility that they could think of.

“Do you want to check it?” Ben asked after a second of silence between them.

“I–I don’t know, Ben…” Martin lost in thoughts. “What will be the exchange if I really have that much money now? Isn’t it too suspicious?”

This sudden surprise gives Martin a new headache that makes him mess his hair.

Destiny really knows how to play tricks with him. Now he seems to want to think that the world was given another concern so that he could forget about his girlfriend who cheated on him.

“Tell me if you need my help, Bro,” Ben said to him after tapping his shoulder. “We can go to my parent’s bank immediately to find out.”

Martin just nodded to his friend and didn’t say anything because his mind was occupied with the anonymous person who sent him this huge amount of money.
