In the temporary room, Christopher and Sergeant Ribeiro were locked in an intense discussion. The air was heavy with tension, but what neither of them knew was that James, their prime suspect, was just outside the door, listening in.

His face betrayed his shock as each word hit him like a blow.

“You can’t be serious, Sergeant Ribeiro,” Christopher said, disbelief thick in his voice.

Ribeiro’s confidence didn’t waver. “Why not? I know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Christopher, trying to maintain composure, said, “I never suggested that James Ross, my brother-in-law, was a suspect.”

“That’s exactly the problem!” Ribeiro’s voice grew sharper. “You kept that from me, Mr. Vasconcelos! While you and your sister were pushing the police to investigate Mark Ferro, you hid a much more plausible suspect!”

“But why would James cut the brakes on my car?” Christopher countered.

Ribeiro’s patience was running out. “Mr. Vasconcelos, it’s best you come clean now so justice can be served!”

Christopher’s phone rang, cutting through the comfortable quiet of the living room. He glanced at the screen, and his face lit up.“It’s cousin Brie!” he exclaimed.Claudia instantly made a face, twisting her expression into something between bitterness and disapproval. Christopher, oblivious to his mother’s sour glare, answered the call with enthusiasm.“Hey, cousin!”On the other end, Briana sat comfortably in the backseat of a limousine, a faint smile on her lips. Regis was at the wheel, steering steadily through the city streets.“Hello, cousin,” she greeted warmly. “Feeling any better?”“I’m calmer now, knowing you’re okay,” he said.“Good. I’m sorry about your car.”“It’s fine. I can buy another. What matters is that I got out in time.”“Was it stolen too?” she asked, frowning.“No. Someone threw a bomb through the back window. I’d forgotten to close it.”“Christopher, you need to be more careful. There are extremists out there,” she warned.“I saw your video too,” he said, his

In the dim light of the underground parking garage, the Porsche finally stopped rocking, the rhythmic motion dying away like the fading tremor of a guilty heartbeat. From inside came a heavy, masculine breath. “And now? Where are you going?”Celia’s voice was faint, drained. “Are you... out of your mind? How am I... supposed to go home like this?”“Oh, come on,” he said, voice slick with amusement. “It’s not like there’s a husband waiting for you.”“No,” she shot back between weary sighs, “just my lover.”That word struck him like a slap. Mr. Collins sat up abruptly, still slick with sweat, his expression curdling with offense. He had thought he was the lover!“I’ll drive you,” he muttered, fastening his seatbelt and pulling a crumpled pile of clothes onto his lap for modesty’s sake. The engine roared to life, echoing off the concrete walls as he maneuvered carefully, trying not to scratch the Porsche against the dumpster beside them.******Gilson stormed into his American-style hous

Briana lay awake, propped against a soft stack of goose-feather pillows. The bed beneath her was far too comfortable for a standard hospital room, another courtesy afforded to Lady Ferro.Luana, however, didn’t notice the difference. Her entire attention was fixed on her best friend’s wellbeing.“Girl, you scared us half to death!” she exclaimed, trying to sound light but betraying her worry.Briana chuckled. “I’ll make sure to warn you next time.”“There won’t be a next time,” Luana shot back, half laughing, half scolding. “You need to stay strong and healthy.”“First, I need to stay alive,” Briana quipped dryly. Before Luana could respond, the door opened and a nurse entered with a tray: the afternoon snack.A small bowl of gelatin, a slice of vanilla cake with barely any sugar, and plain yogurt.Luana helped balance the tray on Briana’s lap while the nurse adjusted the bed’s angle.“Nothing’s going to happen to you,” Luana said softly.“That’s assuming my car isn’t next,” Briana mu

Christopher quickly pulled his phone from his pocket, his fingers moving with nervous urgency as he opened Luana’s profile. He had guessed correctly that the video would come from her page. The screen was cracked from the fall he’d taken earlier, but he could still make out the images clearly enough: Briana and Mark appeared on the feed.“Hello, everyone,” Mark began in the video, his tone calm but firm. “This is Mark Ferro, manager of Glamour Company. Here with me is my lovely wife, the general manager, Briana Vasconcelos Ferro.”Briana smiled softly and ran a hand over her belly. “Hi, everyone,” she greeted, her voice carrying that familiar gentleness that always seemed to calm a room. The sound of a door opening pulled Christopher out of the moment. He looked up to see Mark stepping into the office, his expression grave.“Looks like the video reached you,” Mark said.Christopher hit pause on the cracked screen and stood up quickly. “Mark… is Brie doing better?”“She’s fine now,” Ma

From where Elise stood, she could clearly see the car bouncing behind the dumpster, like a trampoline in motion. Her expression darkened.Sandro, mortified, muttered, “Some people have no sense of danger.”Elise’s tone was precise, almost surgical. “That’s Mr. Collins’s car. Everyone knows how depraved that man is.”One of her assistants huffed. “He never tried anything with me. I never gave him the chance!”“It’s best you go home, ladies,” Sandro advised, eager to end the awkward encounter.Elise nodded and ushered her colleagues toward her car, ignoring the obscene rhythm still echoing from the Porsche.Satisfied to have identified the culprit without needing to investigate further, Sandro turned toward the private elevator leading up to the company floors.“Wouldn’t surprise me,” he muttered under his breath, “if the poor girl he’s destroying down there is Celia.”The Porsche continued to rock, the car’s frame groaning under the couple’s violent fervor. From inside came the unmista

Ribeiro sat behind his desk at the precinct. Across from him, Christopher Vasconcelos sat with his usual elegance slightly marred by the bandages dotting his face and forearms. His clean-shaven jaw only made the bruises more noticeable.Ribeiro started to talk with Mark on the desk phone, his tone calm but firm. “Mr. Ferro. How are things on your end?”Mark’s voice came through the receiver, tight and weary. “Not great. My pregnant wife fainted when she heard the news.”Ribeiro turned toward Christopher. “Your cousin fainted.”Christopher’s eyes widened, color draining from his face.“Is she all right?” Ribeiro asked into the phone again.“We’re at the hospital,” Mark replied. “She and the baby will be fine.”“That’s good to hear.” Ribeiro’s tone softened. “Young Master Vasconcelos is safe too, at least physically. He’s here with me.”“If he waits for me, I’ll meet him there,” said Mark.“I’ll tell him. Take care, Mr. Ferro.”The call ended. Mark lowered the phone and turned to Luana.
