Someone entered the Groom's Suite. It was James's future brother-in-law.

"Chris, has anything interesting happened out there?" Frank turned to him.

The other groomsmen left, smirking.

They had overheard James openly stating that he was marrying Katrina for power and money, and here was the future brother-in-law completely unaware of the groom's true intentions.

"By the way," Christopher continued, "Everything is as per the last-minute arrangements and changes ordered by Grandma Althea."

"They're paid to handle it," James responded coldly and indifferently while adjusting his hairstyle and tie in the full-length mirror. "Is there a complaint?"

"No, no complaints, but I've been wondering if you're not overdoing it a bit," Christopher scratched his neck. "When I told you that the Pauper had arranged accommodations for my Luana, I wasn't trying to scare you."

In the vestibule of the Ferro House, Mark and Briana bid Elara goodnight. She could finally walk on her own, still with the faintest limp, but steady nonetheless.“Allow me to send one of my men to escort you home, Miss D’Arveil,” Mark offered.Elara smiled warmly. “Mr. Ferro, you’re too kind.”“I insist,” he replied. “You were our guest.”A soft chime rang from Elara’s phone. She checked the screen, and her smile widened at the sight of Christopher’s message.“Good news?” Briana asked, stretching her neck, unable to contain her curiosity.“Chris is telling his family right now,” Elara said. “They’re reacting well.”“All of them?” Mark asked, doubtful.“Yes,” she said, eyes still on the screen. “No complaints.”Briana and Mark exchanged a surprised look.“I didn’t think Katrina would accept it,” Briana murmured.“Katrina? His sister?” Elara asked, confused. “Why would she be against it?”Mark’s voice cooled. “She opposes anything that comes from me or my wife. They’ve never gotten alo

Christopher stood in the Vasconcelos mansion’s living room, facing nearly the entire family. Only his mother was absent, though she herself was moments away from receiving a surprise.“Where is your wife, my son?” Althea asked, her voice burning with disapproval.“I don’t know, Mom,” Gilson answered, embarrassed and small beneath her stare.Althea scowled. “I keep telling you that woman has a lover, and none of you believe me.”Nadir glanced around, noticing another absence. “Katrina isn’t here either.”“I think she went looking for Celia,” Christopher explained, “to talk about her dismissal.”Gilson released a quiet, anxious sigh, praying no one noticed. The last thing he wanted was his daughter discovering too much about Celia’s abrupt departure.Althea suddenly brightened. “Well then, my grandson, you should give the news.”Christopher’s smile opened like a boy unwrapping a secret. “All right! Everyone, my fiancée has been chosen. Elara D’Arveil will be the next Mrs. Vasconcelos!”

Mark and Vargas stepped into the vestibule of the Ferro House later that night, returning from their rounds through the industrial district. They walked in just in time to see Nadir hurrying out, her face blotched with embarrassment after being scolded by Briana.“Good evening, Nadir,” Mark greeted casually. “Heading home already?”Her mortification deepened. “I hope, Mark, that you won’t tell my husband I’ve been sleeping with your cook!”Mark and Vargas both froze, their eyes widening in perfect, comical unison.“Well… if Brie spoke to you about it…” Mark began, uncertain.“I won’t be a nuisance any longer, excuse me!” she snapped, her voice thick with wounded pride. She swept past them, not even noticing Vargas’s presence, and slammed the front door behind her.Mark stared after her, intrigued and amused. “Something happened here that I wasn’t informed about. For some reason… I like it.”Vargas chuckled under his breath. “If that’s all for tonight, Lord Ferro, I would very much lik

Briana leaned forward, her tone incisive and unyielding. “Mother, you can open up to me. Don’t you see how ridiculous you’ve been acting? What if my father discovers that all this passion you’ve shown him over the last few weeks was really just unfulfilled desire for Julian?”Nadir recoiled as if struck. “Don’t say such a thing, dear! I love your father!”“Then prove it,” Briana pressed. “Leave Julian alone. Mark said that if you don’t respect his staff, you will no longer be welcome in this house.”The words hit Nadir like a blow. Even Mark knew!In the hallway, Regis hovered by the entrance to the sitting room, grinning with satisfaction. At last, the issue that had tormented the household was being addressed.Thinking quickly, he decided he needed to speak to Julian before Briana or Nadir noticed him eavesdropping.Down in the kitchen, Julian was searing scallops for dinner, the cheerful hiss of the pan filling the room with the warmth and efficiency of a professional restaurant.R

Christopher closed the door behind him, fully intending to irritate his unhinged sister even further.“I’ve chosen Elara D’Arveil to be my wife,” he announced.Katrina’s smile twisted into something bitter. “Yes, the one you’ve been screwing for weeks.”His hand shot up, instinctively rising to strike her, but he froze halfway through the gesture.Katrina screamed and collapsed back into her chair, hands raised in panicked defense. When she realized the slap wasn’t coming, she released a shuddering breath of relief.“Good grief, Chris! I thought you were actually going to—”“Don’t imagine I’ll hold back next time,” he warned, his voice chilled to ice.She straightened, unwilling to cower. “Did I lie? Where exactly have you been spending your weekends?”“I’m in a healthy relationship with Elara,” he snapped. “Stop speaking as if she were just someone I casually sleep with.”“Oh, pardon me,” she muttered with theatrical sarcasm. “But that’s exactly what it looked like.” Adjusting hersel

Elara sat propped against the headboard, wrapped in the one nightgown that had survived Christopher’s relentless, feverish affection.A satisfied smile curved her lips as she scrolled through the glowing responses to her public statement online. Her name was everywhere, her promise to restore Aurelia Square already earning her the admiration of strangers. She was scanning her contacts to make a call when the guest-room door opened and Briana stepped inside, gently closing it behind her so the servants wouldn’t overhear.“Elara? Are you alright?”“I’m fine, Briana.”Briana approached the bed, her expression warm but with concern. “I’m sorry about my cousin. There are moments when he… overdoes it.”Elara’s smile turned wicked. “If I had even a little strength left, we’d still be at it right now.” Her eyes sparkled. “I feel like the luckiest woman in the world.”Briana sat at the edge of the bed, studying her guest more closely. “You have deep feelings for him, don’t you?”“Of course!” E
