Chapter Five
At Steele Corporation’s skyscraper, Alexander stood by the glass window, watching the angry crowd below chant for justice. They wanted the old man’s case reopened, and him sent back to prison. “Master, let me handle this. It’s simple,” Clara said quietly beside him. He shook his head, chuckling. “No. I want the real culprit to come and confess, publicly. We’re just spectators now. Let’s wait and watch.” Clara’s brow furrowed. She knew what'd existed between her master and the Brooks family and she couldn't blame him for what he was doing. “But… Geraldine’s fiancé, Ethan Dolan, was just involved in a terrible accident. She won’t be able to come.” Alexander simply hummed. He’d already expected it. The Brooks had no idea they were surrounded by snakes in their own household. A flicker of pity crossed his face. “Poor boy,” he murmured. Then, turning to Clara, “Watch closely. The game is just beginning.” ***** At the hospital, Geraldine lay motionless, eyes fixed on the ceiling, hollow and silent. Sierra sat beside her, heart breaking at the sight of her daughter so lifeless. She'd woken minutes ago, but hadn’t spoken until now. “What did the doctor say happened to me?” Geraldine finally asked, her voice raspy. Sierra flinched, then gently took her hand. “He’s waiting for you to fully recover before saying much. How do you feel?” Geraldine paused, then whispered, “Empty. Like something’s missing.” Her hand moved to her stomach. “I just hope my baby’s okay.” Sierra nodded, voice trembling. “He’ll explain soon. But I believe your baby’s okay.” Geraldine looked away, trying to steady her breath. “Any news on Ethan?” “Not yet,” Sierra replied. “But I think his parents are finally allowed to see him.” Just then, the door opened and the doctor walked in. “How are you feeling, Ma’am Geraldine?” he asked. “A little better. My throat still burns.” she croaked. The doctor checked her vitals in silence, then gave a reassuring nod. “You’re stable now. You’ll recover in time.” But Geraldine wasn’t interested in recovery, she wanted answers. “What happened to me, Doctor?” she questioned. “Why did I vomit blood?” The doctor hesitated, then glanced at Sierra, who gave a tense nod. She knew and didn't tell me, Geraldine thought, a new wave of unease washing over her. “Miss Geraldine,” the doctor began slowly, “you were poisoned. It was a rare and highly lethal toxin. You’re lucky to be alive.” Sierra gasped, her hand flying to her chest. The doctor hadn't told her that. “But…” the doctor hesitated, bracing himself. “Your babies… didn’t survive.” A chill fell over the room. Geraldine blinked. “Babies?” Her voice cracked. “You were carrying twin,” the doctor said gently. “All two… are lost.” Her chest tightened. Twin? She hadn’t even known. Two lives, gone before she could hold them. A scream clawed at her throat, but only silence came. Who could be so cruel to poison her? The question pounded in her head. He hand went to rest on her belly that once held her child. No wonder she'd felt so empty. Sierra sat frozen, numb. She couldn't believé how things had turned so worst. Just then, a nurse burst in, clutching a file. She whispered to the doctor, who scanned the fresh results. His jaw dropped. Impossible. There’d been a mistake. Only one baby was lost, the other one had survived. This was a miracle. He turned to a now-lost-in-her-world Geraldine with a smile. “Ma’am, this is incredible. One of your babies—” “Get out!” she screamed, raw with grief. “I don’t want to hear it!” She thrashed weakly against the bed, tears falling like fire. The pain was unbearable. Too late, she thought. Too cruel. She knew Gilbert, the man she once hated was the father, but he was now Alexander. And she’d started to love the children as her blood. To believe they might redeem the chaos of her life. Now they were gone, or so she believed. And with them, the last fragile tie to him. Sierra wrapped her arms around Geraldine, nodding to the doctor to leave. As the door shut, only Geraldine’s broken sobs remained. Sierra held her tighter, her own heart breaking. Was this karma for what the Brooks family did to Alexander? No! She pushed the thought aside. Alexander might be powerful now, but he was once Gilbert, the servant they humiliated. No matter how far he’d come, he would still pay. When Geraldine’s cries softened, Sierra gently brushed her hair back. “Sweetheart… can you remember what you last ate or drank at the office? We need to call the police.” A long silence stretched between them. Then, in a voice hollow and brittle, Geraldine whispered, “It was… Rose.” Sierra stiffened. “Rose?” Geraldine nodded weakly. “My PA… Rose. Diana’s best friend. She made my coffee that morning, right before everything spiraled.” Sierra froze. Rose? The one they'd trusted? Betrayal had been right under their noses. But, what if she isn't the one? “I’m calling the police,” she said, grabbing her phone. But before she could dial, a loud news bulletin interrupted the hospital's quiet. “This is Rosaline Jake, reporting live from Steele Corporation,” the anchor announced. The screen showed a sea of protesters outside Steele HQ, signs waving: #JusticeMustBeDelivered, #AlexanderSteeleMustGoBackToJail. “…Still no comment from Alexander Steel himself,” the reporter continued, “who has remained silent despite the growing unrest.” Geraldine stared at the screen, trembling. Then, without warning, she ripped the IV from her arm, blood dotting her skin. “Geraldine!” Sierra cried. “I’ve to do this,” Geraldine said, standing shakily. “You’re coming with me.” “To where?” “To face what we did to him. All of us.” Sierra gasped. “B.. but it would ruin us." “I don't care. Call every member of our family, every person who humiliated, mocked, or betrayed Alexander when he was Gilbert. We're going to answer for it. Every last one of us.” Sierra stared at her daughter, stunned by the transformation. She nodded slowly. “I’ll make the calls.” Barefoot and bleeding, Geraldine stepped into the hallway, ready to confront the past. **** As the Brooks family arrived at Steel Corporation, murmurs rippled through the angry crowd. “There they are… Isn’t that Geraldine Brook? In a hospital gown?” “She left her fiancé in the ICU for this?” “Back now that he’s rich? Forgetting she was once married to an ex-con?” The murmurs thickened with judgment and speculation. Live, the newscaster cut in: “A shocking twist, The infamous Brooks family has just arrived. Silent. Somber. Seems this case has just taken a dramatic turn.” Inside, Alexander Steel watched from above, arms crossed. A smirk played on his lips, until he saw her. Geraldine. Pale. Barefoot. In a hospital gown. Leaning on her mother. What the hell happened to her? He thought, confused. Then Geraldine stepped forward. Someone handed her a mic. Her hands shook, but her voice didn’t. “We, the Brooks family, stand here not as victims… but as perpetrators. We’re not asking for sympathy. We are confessing.” Gasps. Phones raised. The world was watching. “My ex-husband, Alexander Steele, formerly Gilbert Brooks, wasn’t wronged by fate or the system. He was wronged by us. By me,” Geraldine said, voice unwavering. “He carried our sins, our pride, our lies. Today, we ask him and this nation for forgiveness.” The crowd fell silent. Uncle Ryan seethed, inwardly. She’s ruining everything, right when my plan’s almost done! Geraldine pressed on, laying bare every betrayal, every cruelty. When she finished, there was a beat of silence… then chaos erupted. “You abused an innocent man!” “Shame on the Brooks!” “You rejected him and now you crawl back?” Bottles, trash, even a shoe flew. Security shielded the Brooks. But then… the tone shifted. “Look at Alexander now.” “He rose from nothing.” “I judged him wrong… I’d be proud to call him family.” “I would gladly let him be my live-in-son-in-law now.” Then, boom! The entrance doors to Steele Corporation opened. Alexander emerged, stoic, commanding. Clara walked beside him. Behind them, black-suited guards moved in perfect sync. The crowd parted. Silence followed. Then a chant rose: “Clear the way for President Alexander Steele!” Cameras flashed. Heads bowed. A man once scorned now walked like a king. And beneath his empire’s banner stood the very people who once broke him… now desperate to make things right. But was it too late? He looked at her, eyes unreadable. And Geraldine… for once, had no words left. Alexander smiled as the once-proud Brooks family stood frozen before him. The man they had mocked was now untouchable. Powerful. Revered. The crowd erupted: “Kneel! Kneel before Master Alexander!” The chant echoed like thunder. Cameras zoomed in. The nation watched. Sierra broke first, dropping to her knees. The rest followed, knees to pavement, heads bowed. The mighty had fallen. Geraldine locked eyes with Alexander. A cruel memory struck: how she once made him kneel while she laughed and ate with her legs on his back like her table then. Now, the power has shifted. Tears streamed down their faces as they pleaded. “Forgive us, Master Alexander Steele,” they whispered. But sincerity was scarce. Sierra’s eyes were cold. Granny Brooke’s lips tight. Diana refused to speak. Uncle Ryan burned with silent rage. And in Sierra’s mind, one thought echoed: This isn’t the end, Alexander Steele. Then Geraldine moved. Trembling, she fell forward, wrapping her arms around Alexander’s left leg. Pain shot through her body, but she clung tighter, tears soaking into his pants. “I’m sorry,” she choked out. “For everything.” A hush fell as Alexander stared down at her Then, sirens. Police stormed in, arresting the Brooks one by one. Some resisted. Others wept. Geraldine held on tight to his leg. “Please… don’t let them take me…” Officers gently pried her off. Her red, swollen eyes never left Alexander even as she was led away. Alexander didn't move, he only watched her. As the cars pulled away and the crowd dispersed, Clara stepped beside him. “Orders, sir?” “Get the car ready. I’m heading to the station.” He paused. “And check on Ethan Dolan. I want names. Motives. Also… find out what happened to my ex-wife at that hospital.” Clara nodded. “Understood.” Alexander’s gaze lingered on the horizon, then his voice dropped. “This war… isn’t over.”

But today, Alexander had decided to release them. Prison had changed them. The hatred once etched into their faces was now replaced by quiet regret. Surprisingly, they looked well, especially Geraldine. Now heavily pregnant, Geraldine’s glow defied the prison walls. She didn’t look like someone who’d spent half a year confined. Chapter TwoIn a lavish living room, Alexander Steele, formerly Gilbert Brooks, sat across from a striking woman with an open file between them. The resemblance was undeniable. She was Alessandria Steele, his sister.“I’m so sorry for everything you went through, brother” she said, voice laced with sorrow. “I didn’t know how it happened or who took you. It was like everything about you were erased from the earth. I only discovered the truth months ago, when I found out you were married into the Brooks family. That’s when I realized... it was you.”Alexander remained silent, still absorbing the whirlwind his life had become. His eyes scanned the opulent room, landing on framed photos of Alessandria with her husband, glowing and happy.“I understand,” he said quietly. “But… what about our real parents? Can I know more about them? And grandpa too?”Alessandria nodded and sighed. “I’ll tell you what I know. But the story about how you ended up in an orphanage after being taken... that par
