“Have you been sleeping since we left?!” She shoots a murderous glare at him.

With a head bow, Aiden mutters some series of sorrys.

“He's growing lazier day by day,” Aiden's father-in-law says.

“Why won't he? All he does is wake up, eat, sleep and then repeat the circle over and over again.”

“Mom…” Harper cries.

Her mother looks at her. She opens her mouth to talk but soon closes it. “I'll let it slide this morning because of you, dear. But you…” she shoots another glare at Aiden. “Be prepared to start working before the end of this week. It's time you started contributing to this family. I can't continue feeding a useless full-grown man.”

She hisses and goes in with her husband.

Harper sighs as soon as they are gone. “You're not going to say anything to that either?”

Aiden shrugs. “It's time to start working if you actually think about it.”

“Damn! Do you know how much work you do in this house? Do you know how many hours of sleep— four hours of sleep is all you get everyday to be able to meet up with the house chores? Mown the lawn, do all the cleaning, cook—”

Aiden silences her with an unexpected hug. “I'm proud of you too, babe,” he says into her shoulders.

She snugs closer to Aiden. “I thought we were not going to give her the contract,” she mutters. “The man was pretty weird, asking me some really weird questions.”

Aiden smirks. “What did he ask you?”

She pulls away from him. “Nothing serious. Just this and that. I need to have some hours of sleep.”

Aiden nods. “I'll join you in bed soon. There are still some dishes to wash.”

She nods before walking to their room. Aiden makes a mental note to get her a ring later in the day. She's been patient with him for too long.

He saunters to the kitchen.

By the time Aiden is done with the morning meal, it's some minutes past nine in the morning. Yeah, cooking here is like working in a hotel. None of the members of the family eat the same food.

His mother-in-law especially has to try five different foods to see which one she wants to eat. On days when her emotions shoot up past the normal, she'd ask him to cook something entirely different after he's finished cooking and in the end, she'll complain about a bad appetite, completely making all his effort go into a waste.

Aiden sets the dishes on the table.

He hears a honk by the door.

He frowns. No one is expecting anyone this morning, well…as far as he knows.

He goes to the gate to open it. A Lamborghini Veneno Roadster drives in. Still wondering who the owner of the car is, Aiden closes the gate and to the car.

Wesley comes out from the car.

Aiden resists a scoff as he goes toward the door.

“Hello, Mister?” Wesley calls.

Aiden grabs the door handle. Slowly he turns around. “What?”

“I got some things for mother and father and my bestie, could you help me get them inside?”

Aiden scoffs. “Mother and father?”

He tosses her car key to Aiden. “Get the things inside and stop asking me stupid questions.”

“Suppose I refuse?”

“I guess you have parked your things because you're parking out of this house then.”

“If you bought—”

“Hey, dude, this is going to be the first and last warning I'll ever give you, don't try shit with me anymore. The moment I give orders, follow them. You and I are far from each other in every way than for you to talk shit to me like this.” He hisses and storms inside.

Aiden turns around to go inside. Who the fuck does Wesley think he is to give orders? He wants to snap at Wesley that he should come get his things by himself when he sees his father-in-law.

His father-in-law shoots him an angry look. “Go back and get those things,” his father-in-law orders and goes back inside.

Aiden's first impulse is to snap at the damn old man but he stops himself. He can't mess things up right now. He's been enduring this shit for the past two years, he might as well endure it to the end, get done with his mission and get the hell out of this place.

Minutes later, he dumps the gifts in the sitting room, glances at the dining room in time to see Wesley wiping the corner of Harper's mouth with a napkin.

“I heard you also applied for the contract with the Vicholas group Wesley,” Aiden's father-in-law says.

“Yes…”

“This is what I've been saying, honey,” Aiden's mother-in-law says. “We're so lucky to have been able to get the contract.”

“Actually…” Wesley clears his throat. “I didn't mean to say this but when I got inside the man's office last night, he gave me the contract…”

From where Aiden stays, he frowns. What the fuck?

Later that night, Aiden has just dished out the meal and everyone is about to eat. Hannah is at the other end of the table, blushing, her eyes on the phone. “Do you have a boyfriend?” Bryan asks, trying to peep at Hannah's phone again without another success. “None of your business,” she says. “Men are really terrible,” Bryan says. “Don't trust any of them with your heart.” “Still none of your business.” “I have broken at least twenty girl’s heart and I'm still counting. After sleeping with them, I discard them,” Bryan says. “That's so gross,” Hannah makes a face at him. “Have you ever heard about sex education?” Mrs Lincoln asks across the table. Bryan shakes his head. “You're always spoiling the mood, mom.” “It's high time we taught her—” “Mom!” Hannah cries. “We're eating.” “The moment you become pregnant—” “Just stop,” Hannah interrupts her brother. They hear the doorbell ring. Aiden stands up to get the door. He opens the door. His father-in-law is standi

“Aiden, sir. My name is Aiden.” “Aiden…?” “Aiden Lawrence, sir.” Hannah darts a shocked look at Aiden. What the fuck is he doing telling her grandfather his real name? Her grandfather can get all his details in just a twinkle of an eye with that name!“I'll get going now, sir.” He bows. “I need to go too, grandfather. Mom will be worried if I stay another hour,” Hannah quickly gets up. “Of course, you need to go.” He pulls her behind. “Make sure to tell Aiden a lot of good things about your sister and make sure your sister agrees to marry any man named Aiden that approaches her.” Hannah nods. “Trust me. They're married already.” “That's it. You are so confident. I promise to get anything you want if you succeed in getting married.” “Allow me to study genetics in Harvard university,” Hannah says. “You cunning thing, get them married first,” her grandfather whispers. Aiden muses as he looks at the turn of events. What a family. “Young man, shall we go to the sitting room? We might end up having a lengthy conversation,” grandfather tells Aiden. At a corner of the room, Hannah's eyes meet with Aiden and he smiles faintly at her. Hannah rushes back to the grandfather's sitting room where she slumps on the sofa. Who the fuck is Aiden? He almost gave her…no, he gave her a panic attack for real. If things turned out the other way round, forget about being one of grandfather's favorite grandkids, she'd have actually died for bringing Aiden here. “How many years have you being Master Lee's student?” She hears her grandfather's voice approach. What the fuck? Is that really a name? “Five years, sir,” Aiden says. “Five years? How did you manage to? The highest I have ever heard was a year and the man is actually dead now because o

“Do you all have a death wish?!” Grandfather thunders. “Get out!!” Everyone rushes out of the room. Aiden swings into action. He uses a few of his skills that he has used to save a couple of their dying men on the battle front. Ten seconds later, Alex sneezes. His breathing is uneven at first but Aiden places his hand on Alex's chest, muttering some words under his breath. Noticing goosebumps on Alex's body, Aiden swiftly pulls the blinds aside and opens the window. He goes back to Alex and pats him gently on the forehead before pulling off the blanket on Alex's body. Alex sneezes again. This time his eyes flutter open. Grandfather's walking stick falls from his hands. Alex has not opened his eyes for the past two weeks even with all the medication he has been given. “Daddy…” Alex mutters in a faint voice. “I'm hungry…” “You're—Alex?” Grandfather staggers to his son. Aiden quickly gets the walking stick and gives it to grandfather who doesn't collect it. The grandfather sta

He looks around to see who she shouted his name that loud but there is no one around. Just a little dog on a sofa with a lazy stare at the plasma TV. “Hey, I'm going to get annoyed if you don't run to me right now.” Hannah folds her arms, sulking. As if by magic, the dog jumps out of the sofa and crashes into Hannah, wailing its tail at Hannah's legs. Hannah crouches down and rubs the dog's head. “You have grown really big, huh. Did you miss me?” “Here we come again,” an elderly voice says across the room. Aiden raises his head. The grandfather has a big smile on his face that makes him look forty—not the eighty years old he actually is. He walks closer to them with his walking stick.“You are the only one I know who barges into my quarter without an appointment and without anything reasonable to say,” the old man says. “Don't pretend you don't like it, old man,” Hannah says in a friendly way that freaks the hell out of Aiden. But to his surprise, the grandfather roars in laug

Aiden nods. He glances at her. “You must promise me you won't tell anyone about this. Not Harper or Bryan or Mom or dad.” “They'll think I'm crazy if I mention it.”Exactly. That was why Aiden didn't bother. They'd probably think she's crazy for real if she tells them any of these. Thirty minutes later, the car pulls in front of a magnificent gate. A stern looking cop with a gun dappled across his shoulder stands in front of the car. “Tell him you are here to see grandfather,” Aiden tells Hannah as he winds down the window. “Hey, get out of the road,” Hannah snaps at the man. The man quickly bows and barks out commands for the man with the remote to let the car in. “I'm sorry, ma'am, I didn't know you were the one,” the cop tells Hannah as the car drives in. “How'd you know with that dumb head of yours?” Hannah spits back. “You don't have to be that mean,” Aiden mutters. “He deser
